  1. 1.07 works very well for me. But with 1.08 I have some problems. 1. no dynamic light. 2. blood spills looks like black squares. more than this, some items on model of man looks deep black. 3. Can't load Lockdown level. it says ERROR:Joint 'Shoulders' not found for 'head_joint' on 'atdm_ai_undead_zombie_alt01_1' I play is on 1.07 and all run so well... Oh. I have Fedora Core 14, x86_64.
  2. (the screen went black for a few seconds and Dark Mod didn't actually started, just saying, because I don't know if that was supposed to happen) logmysound.txt: http://pastebin.com/XCDPQUxa

  5. My conclusion is as follows: There are some guides available for tweaking Doom3, and though some settings are the same as in TDM I have not found any huge improvements apart from the video ram switch/entry. The following are kindly copy/pasted from tweakguides - the link provided by "freyk": I have tested the switches "seta image_useNormalCompression" and "seta image_useCompression" by turning them off, but if I also turned off the switch "seta image_usePrecompressedTextures" - the screen would go black when TDM starts. So I left this at default "1" This first two may have made an improvement in performance, but not visually. I changed "com_machineSpec " to "3" = Ultra quality , and again I'm not totally sure if it has made any improvement, but it didn't hurt either. And off course "com_videoRam" which I set to "2048" , and this has definitely made a huge improvement - not visually but in performance. (Please learn from my mistake and leave "sys_videoRam" at it's default value "0" = autodetect) So the conclusion is that users are unlike to make any visually improvements through tweaking the darkmod.cfg but it is possible to alter some values in order to make a given system run better on either older or newer hardware. And why not?! Because the development team at Broken Glass Studios has made such a good job with the GUI graphic settings (not only the graphic settings that is...) I used the fan mission "Crucible of Omens:Behind closed doors" for most of the testing, because of the size of the map. I hope that this can maybe help other users who seek the information I did. Btw if anybody using either Linux Ubuntu 14.04 or Linux Mint 17.x are struggling with correct sound the following may be applied: seta s_alsa_pcm "default" may be changed to seta s_alsa_pcm "plughw:0" in order to get TDM to use "alsa" sound.
  6. Thank you for your reply, freyk. None specific - I'm not an expert, but I know what I think looks good. The doom3 link is a pretty good start I think, because as you mention freyk, there is an official TDM performance wiki, and all one has to do in order to change settings for better quality, is to play around with opposite values... Which I did, and got pretty tired of starting TDM up with a black screen. So I think that I will give it a go, and search for switches/values that will tell TDM not to hold anything back. And maybe later I will try out Darkradiant. Thanks.
  7. Afternoon all I am creating a general Windows 10 tech support thread in order to detail any bugs/fixes/tweaks that people come across while using Windows 10 itself or with The Darkmod under Windows 10. I will be updating and tweaking this OP as we go and will provide an index with links to fixes as they come up. This is what I have found since completing the setup of Windows 10 pro on my PC - red - no fix found yet blue - working on fix green - fix found black - reported only Installing: How do I clean install windows 10 - if like me you have an SSD or just prefer to install windows 10 you only have one option and its a PITA (and this is the offiail method from Microsoft)Using the media-creation tool download either direct to a USB stick or an ISO and write to a USB stick via the Win7 USB tool.Backup all your data and then double click on the installer from the USB stick from with in Windows 7/8, and to save time I didn't bother choosing to download any updates(but some users might have to for the upgrade to work). Once Windows 10 is installed, shut down the machine. If like me you have an SSD I would strongly recommend a factory reset of the drive using the manufactures tool or a 3rd paty tool like PartedMagic. Then reboot the machine with your Windows 10 USB stick, and then install windows, when you get prompted (multiple times for a CD key, just click skip). The PC will reboot a few times and after about 30mins you will have a fresh install of Windows 10.Then check 'This PC' and you will find windows is activated. The crucial and pertinent fact is that the reason for installing from the USB stick is that, during the first install a hardware HASH is generated from your existing Win7/8 key & motherboard of that particular PC and then written to said USB stick. This is currently the only way I have found to do a clean install - B.S. I know but, there it is. Bugs & Fixes: Right click & Manage on "This PC" no longer works - this seem's to be a random bugIf your router's firewall has outgoing rules set, browsing in windows 10 results in delays and unresponding sites - I had to turn off all outgoing rulesNo sound from any XFI sound card, despite driver installed and the card set to default sound output - the fix, is to set bit depth set to 16bit / 44khzCan't drag and drop files in windows explorer from r/h pane to a drive on the l/h pane.Windows slow and unresponsive at times, fix is to changing the page file size - linkAnother fix for Windows 10 being laggy and unresponsive, permanently disable Windows Defender - linkSome windows updates are causing infinite bootloop - linkTweaks: How to change or remove new start menu and replace with Xp/7 like menu - install Classic shellHow to Add or Remove OneDrive from Navigation Pane of File Explorer - linkHow to Add or Remove Drives in Navigation Pane of File Explorer - linkHow to Add or Remove Homegroup in Navigation Pane of File Explorer - linkHow to Add or Remove Libraries in Navigation Pane of File Explorer - linkHow to Add or Remove Network in Navigation Pane of File Explorer - link How to Add or Remove This PC in Navigation Pane of File Explorer - linkHow to Add or Remove Quick access in Navigation Pane of File Explorer - linkHow to Add or Remove Recycle Bin in Navigation Pane of File Explorer - linkHow to Add a OneDrive Open or Close Context Menu - linkHow to change ugly Win10 desktop/explorer icons to either older Vista or 7 look - no fix as of yetRemove start button/orb from second taskbar when using multiple screens - no fix as of yetSome services & programs still start despite being disabled in services.msc and auto start, doing a regedit search and remove is the way to go - linkIf like me you have already removed the search bar, but find Cortana is still running in the background. 8. Hi Guys, when i'm playing big FMs like Crucible of Omens, I have to play with downsize options to avoid crash : seta image_downSizeLimit "512" seta image_downSizeBumpLimit "128" etc... But playing with this config, I have visuals bugs, like flames appears black, or water surface effect working only in a small square at the left bottom of the screen. I've been able to disable those bugs by using toggle commands like : bind "i" "toggle r_skipambient" bind "o" "toggle r_skipnewambient" bind "p" "toggle r_skipPostProcess" But there is only one bug that I can't handle, it's the water effect when you swim INTO the water : it's not easy to describe, it's like the shader effect is zoomed at maximum, the level is tilted and appears twice as large, it's very difficult to navigate into water. (the same bug appears with sky textures or mirror reflection) I almost found a solution : when using noclip, the water effect is totally disable but the speed of the player is way too slooow and I can't navigate like this. So does someone know a way to disable the water effect ?
  9. There are some wood piles surfaces on a shack in knighton manor that appear black unless the light is really really close. Normal map or just low enough light? Note that the upper pile is not solid black.
  10. Ok, well although I got it working 1920x1080 in fullscreen at 16x9 ratio, I can't play missions. All my missions show up in the list, but whenever I install one (and tdm restarts), it says Mission Installed: "" i.e - it's blank. However, I have the option to start the mission, but then I get this error. So.. what's going on? I have deleted my entire dark mod folder and replaced it with the one I originally downloaded, but it doesn't make any difference. The FPS counter is still enabled by default as well. Plus, when I try to use the tdm launcher after a mission is installed, I don't see the usual dark mod initial loading screen. Instead, I see the regular doom 3 loading screen (with the planet), but then the dark mod appears to load, but the screen is now black. So yeah.. I don't know what's going on. Sometimes I get a black screen and sometimes I don't, but I can't play any missions regardless.. : ( Maybe simply deleting my darkmod folder isn't good enough? I noticed that there were some additional files installed to my doom 3 base directory, but I'm not sure which ones they are, so maybe someone could tell me how to completely uninstall darkmod? Or if you know what's causing my problem and how to fix it, that'd be great as well..
  11. nbohr1more got it right the first time. boy do I feel dumb for some reason I thought my version of Doom3 was pre-patched. yeah I'm a dummy today. so it is working now, thank you very much for the help but I have another question. I have a wide 18~ish inch monitor and the game doesn't display all the way out to the side. the top and bottom meet up well but there's close to 2 inches of black nothing on either side of the game. my screen resolution is 1680 x 945 the closest I can get the game setting to that is 1680 x 1050 but the black side don't seem to change any from me adjustingz resolution or aspect ratio. the game seem pinched side to side to me. is there any way I can get the game to display fully from side to side? thanks again
  12. I just downloaded The Dark Mod and as soon as it finally downloaded I ran the application; my screen went black and this window popped up. Im a newb and don't know what to do.It says that it can't find some of the files. I've ran the updater a couple of times and it says that it's up to date.
  13. Ok, the SVN version is running fine. So apparently something is borking with the 2.03 update. Run as admin, still crashed. No default.cfg, only the DoomConflg.cfg. Installed in C:\Users\[...]\games\PC\FPS\Darkmod. In the folder properties, suddenly the "Read only" box keeps checking. I turn it off; click ok. Then open up folder properties again and it's checked again. (i.e., I can't turn it off.) It was not like that the last time I looked into it (like yesterday). Edit: Actually, it's not a check, but a black box, as if some items are "read only" but not everything, maybe. And it's doing that for every folder on my entire HD.
  14. Is the game going fullscreen but only rendered in the top left corner, so the rest of the screen is black? If he's using onboard graphics like intel, he might have keep aspect or don't scale option set. Man there's so many things that it could be.
  15. ***SOLVED*** See Steps Quoted in bottom post Hi, I am running Linux Mint 17.1, MATE desktop and compiz. My system (64 bit) has onboard Intel HD3000 video chip. I used the updater downloaded from the site to install the darkmod updater into a darkmod folder in home as per the instructions. I checked and my system does have the ia32-lib installed. The install seemed to go without hitch, on running the updater, files just began appearing in my darkmnod folder. However, when I try to start TDM by doubleclicking thedarkmod.x86, I hear the sounds and can hear my mouse scrolling over options and the music is playing fine. But the whole screen is black and I had to to a hard shutdown to get out. I have searched around, but only see suggestions of changing a doom config file (which I don't have with this standalone version) I also saw some mention of various screen resolutions. I am running on a laptop with a secondary monitor (laptop is closed and the laptop screen is disabled) set at 1920x1080 via VGA (HDMI port is toast) Is there something I am missing? Maybe a setting in the Darkmod.cfg file? Is there a way to get out of TDM without a hard shutdown? Some keystroke, as I try different things to see if I can get this working for my system? Here is what is in my log file, I don't see any errors: Thanks for any clues or tips!
  16. I had tried deleting the "doomconfig.cfg" file alone but I still encountered the Black Screen problem and not until I deleted both the "doomconfig.cfg" file and the "gamex86.dll" file did I have any success in getting rid of the Black Screen problem. I realize a new "gamex86.dll" file is created each time the game is launched. I'm assuming that the first "gamex86.dll" is somehow corrupted after the first launch and that's why it needs to be deleted so a new and clean "gamex86.dll" can be used on subsequent launches.
  17. I disagree, I think it is the same problem. Just because people are finding different solutions to the problem it doesn't mean that it's not just one problem with a few different solutions to fix that one problem. I do research for a living and I often find there can be numerous ways to a problem but usually there is an easy way to fix the problem and many hard ways to fix the same problem. Yes, I have run TDM without any other Doom 3 Mods installed and still had the same Black Screen problem. I also completely uninstalled Doom 3, patched it, and installed TDM but I still got the Black Screen. Why don't you just tell me what you think is the best solution to this problem? Of all the solutions posted in this thread which one seems like the best solution? I assume with your knowledge you can easily weed out the good ideas from the bad.
  18. Thanks Myagi for the suggestion. Were you also experiencing the Black Screen bug and did this fix your problem? It seems like there are a lot of people experiencing this same Black Screen problem. There is a lot of speculation and a bunch of different ideas but does anyone have a definitive solution to this problem? Again, we all seem to be describing the exact same problem so it seems fair to think that there should just be one solution to this problem. I've tried the solutions listed in this thread but haven't been able to get TDM running. I might have missed something so is there one solution listed here that really should work?
  19. Check out this topic. A few other people had a "black menu" problem. http://forums.thedarkmod.com/topic/10319-black-screen-on-startup/
  20. Hi. I've got the same problem here. The Dark Mod runs fine first time, tried to change the resolution and restart, and I get the Doom 3 loading screen, then a black main menu. The Dark Mod music plays but the screen is black. The console still works, and it shows 161 warnings related to being unable to load various assets for the main menu. On a more positive note, I loved the music, and the artwork I briefly saw on the menu was very atmospheric. I'm really looking forward to working this little bug out so I can see some more I think I might try the Linux version tonight...
  21. Well its the internet, somebody like that always appears. Yikes, what negative opinion about 64-bit, while there are some issues with quad processors and 64 bit, it is rare to have a problem with every game except for fairly old games like pre-02 or 03 and only sometimes. (the 32 bit compatibility of Vista is actually pretty good) Also he seems to not like reading/comprehending our posts. As far as my problem, I have a 500 W power supply and the video card requires 550 W, so that is probably the problem. If so, the power supply must have a good means of cutting off power without turning my whole computer completely off. It seems to still provide power up to the max, then cuts off power to just the video card, which restarts again as power is provided and I get some form of black screen. I've also been having a few issues with T2 as well, though it either crashes or goes to almost all black except for some sky lighting whenever too much occurs.
  22. Okay, I deleted the game files using Steam, deleted all of the remaining files including dark mod stuff, installed doom3 and now it is freezing without doing anything to it. (oh and the steam version is the latest version...there is no patching and never supposed to be any patching required for steam games - manually anyway) Edit: looked at the steam log, and apparently the game goes to a black screen because it has stopped recieving any new frames....which makes sense as the game halts, monitors blacks out (no display), and then I get a black screen (display).
  23. Okay, so I can otherwise play TDM just fine. I have Catalyst AI turned off, bloom turned off, Doom 3 is patched to the right version, all those random tweaks - and still my map is crashing the game, though curiously it doesn't crash other people's computers. I've run it via devmap and gotten booted back to the menu sometimes, only to see "ERROR: idrendersystemlocal::uncrop: currentrendercrop < 1" which seems to be the culprit. When I run it with "map", the screen turns black - as if the game has momentarily loaded but is fading in from black - but then I get a "Doom 3 has stopped working" error dialog. Here's my map: http://www.radiator.debacle.us/porterhouse.map Here's my log. Help!
  24. Realtek High Definition Audio and EAX is and has been off. oh and FYI, the music continues without a problem when it goes to a black screen. Edit: I decided to check the version of room (which is correct), but I noticed where it gave me 12 warnings of being unable to load images related to extinguishable light. Would cause this kind of the issues I'm having? Here are the warnings or at least the 11 that it would show me and yes that period warning is what it gave me: Couldn't Load Image: . Couldn't Load Image: extinguishable/lamp_shaded Couldn't Load Image: extinguishable/lantern_oil_hand Couldn't Load Image: extinguishable/lantern_oil_hand02 Couldn't Load Image: extinguishable/round_lantern_sitting Couldn't Load Image: extinguishable/round_lantern_unattached Couldn't Load Image: extinguishable/streetlamp/roundstreetlamp Couldn't Load Image: extinguishable/streetlamp/roundstreetlamp_02 Couldn't Load Image: extinguishable/wallight2 Couldn't Load Image: extinguishable/wallight_3_unattached Couldn't Load Image: extinguishable/wallight_outdoor3 Edit2: nevermind, I tried Doom3 and it crashes right when you are about to be bioscanned...only this time the screen goes grayish white instead of black...go figure. Edit3: Dang it....looks like I'm going to be the odd one out from here on, no Dark mod missions for me.
  25. thanks, but that would help if it would be ingame related problems i guess... i tryed it anyway but: no luck... i don't even get this far to see any graphic bugs like black walls or white models without textures or somethin' like that... and that shatter the nerves right now. i start the mod and its just that f*** up black screen with music in the back and loading errors in console. i mean, as you could see in the screenshots above (first postings up this thread) the console is reporting, that the game is unable to load everything - except the menu-theme and button sounds as it seems it's not the driver, cause i could play EVERY F**** mod for doom3 i tryed (4 or 5 mods..) and the game itself with good frames, everything high and no graphic errors or bugs. so. i dunno. can't stand it anymore. i tryed the whole f*** day to start it. still no luck. thats just depressing. edit: i even downloaded the WHOLE mod again, via update.exe - STILL NOT WORKING.
