  1. No, the black thumbnail is for D3D applications running in exclusive fullscreen. You can check @runtime if a D3D application is running in BWF or not by that. I don't know for OpenGL ones.
  2. Is the the only difference? The black thumbnail? Try r_fbo 0/1 and restart TDM.
  3. For OpenGL applications maybe there are some more quirks (driver-related / MS specification for OGL drivers-related), for D3D just press WIN button+TAB ! *non-exclusive -> you'll see the active thumbnail *exclusive -> black (blank) thumbnail
  4. Thanks duzenko. Although that tip didn't directly solve my problems, it did lead me to the right documentation. For anyone having similar issues, what ultimately did the trick for me was going to TheDarkMod.exe>Properties>Compatibility > Change_high_DPI_settings > High_DPI_Scaling_Override where I checking the box for "override high dpi scaling behavior" and selecting "application" from the pull down menu. Prior to this I had also turned off AA in TDM, in favor of forcing AA through the nvidia control panel, and I set r_nvidiaOverride 0 and r_useFBO 0 in the game console. (In case any of those were contributing factors.) Currently I'm running in 1920x1080 fullscreen, on all maxed settings (except AA of course), and getting good performance. I have noticed some minor shadow flickering from turning off FBO, but it's not a big deal. Considering turning off FBO also cleared up a graphical glitch I was getting where some water surfaces had periodic horizontal black lines and extra layer of texture, I consider this a win. Plus it sounds like a lot of these issues will be getting fixes for the next update. So thanks again.
  5. Strange ... After trying to capture in-game screenshots for comparison between 2.06 and SVN, and taking Windows screen captures for comparison, the problem has morphed to: SVN is darker than 2.06, but the "nearly-all-black screen" condition that I saw has changed to a "noticeably darker, but not all-black" condition. Since I invoked SVN by accident while working with my WIP in 2.06, I'm willing to let this go until we get into 2.07 beta and see how other existing missions behave. Perhaps it was some unexplained momentary glitch on my end.
  6. Using my normal config settings, which worked fine a couple months ago, I'm now getting a nearly dark screen when starting a mission with SVN assets/code. I built the Windows binaries from the current SVN source, so it's up-to-date. The presentation is as if there is no lighting from in-game lights, and ambient is very very low. Anyone else seeing this? SVN is supposed to be kept bug-free, so that folks can work with the latest assets and code. If this isn't already being worked on, could the devs pls take a look at it and bring SVN back to expectations? Thanks.
  7. Hello! I've been having a host of weird AA/ graphics problems with 2.06. Ill post them here and create bug reports when necessary (sorry if these are redundant in other threads) Windows 10. NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980. (Latest drivers) TDM 2.06 (Both 32 and 64 bit) Problem 1- AA forces fullscreen - While in windowed mode + (advanced render features off / SS/ Post/ect) - If I click AA on, it forces fullscreen mode even after restart. I have to disable AA and then restart to get back into window mode. Problem 2- AA and my skyboxes -While AA is turned on + (forced fullscreen, advanced render features off). My skyboxes get this weird windowed effect in them. If I turn bloom on, the effect is very noticeable and creates a huge FPS drop. Some screenshots: Cauldron: With Bloom: Volta and the Stone: with bloom: I did try removing the fog light I use in the skybox, but the problem persisted. Problem 3- Water shader - All advanced features off including AA. I get these very weird black lines on my water shader. Material file: volta_water_material.txt I want to make sure these are legit mod bugs before filing reports, so please let me know if you have the same problems or if these are already filed and being tracked. Thanks!
  8. I would like to add my problems report too! - The new shadows simply dont work at all, they just create fields of black spots. I have an onboard card, so it might just be a compability thingy, old shit n stuff. - The rope arrow is suddenly broken... As soon as i climb on it, it freaks out and lashes itself into the first wall it can find. Unclimbable. Thats all i care for :3 The update brought alot of new performance! And the SFX update really made a huge entrance <3 thx
  9. Hello All, I'm not getting a lot of joy out of 2.0.6... Here are my system specs: Dell XPS M1330 Intel Core 2 Duo T7250 @ 2.0 ghz NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS 2 gig of RAM I was using XP mainly for 2.0.5, and it ran without problem, as did the first testing releases of 2.0.6. This was on a XPS M1530, whch has since died, but the specs were the same apart from a larger screen. I have now tried 2.0.6 on XP Pro (32bit): just get a black screen but hear the main menu music. Tried it on linux (32 bit Void) and it does get to the menu. The included missions show but will not install. The game will not reload automatically. I am able to change settings though. It will not download missions list, even though network is working. I have tried some other distros (32 and 64 bit) but no improvement. 2.0.5 still runs ok on linux and XP on this laptop. Here is the terminal output when I run it:
  10. Heya, I've been playing this great mission by Goldwell and while it was really enjoyable, I've encountered a few minor bugs(at least I hope they're minor O_O), and a major one. 1.) There is a safe in the office of the third floor(one with lion head ornament), which contains some loot. I was able to pick up all of it except a single purse with some spilled coins. No matter which angle I tried, couldn't pick it up for some reason, even after restarting TDM few times. 2.) There is an optional objective of putting a certain orb into a cauldron. Apparently, it should start some sort of cutscene, but nothing happens. 3.) Watched a video on YT by FenPhoenix, in which he put a rat into some sort of stew, and the protagonist said a funny line. Tried to put the rat into stew, but nothing happened, except the rat glitching through the pot, rotating furiously for a few seconds. 4.) The final and most severe one I've encountered. After finishing my objectives(except the orb ritual -_-' ), I appeared in a train after being teleported. The end credits started to roll, and the screen remained black. The mission didn't finish, and I could still hear my footsteps, sound of drawing my weapons, but there was no HUD. Tried reloading bunch of times, but no results. I'll try to dash through the mission again tomorrow, hopefully it'll work. Cheers! (^__^ ) (\_/) <-----crappy whale
  11. Hello, everyone! I've done some searches in the forums, and looked in the troubleshooting on the wiki, but there's a problem that's been in Dark Mod for the past version or two that's now prevalent enough for me to log in and report. Not sure if it's an issue with the Dark Mod itself or just one model of light that someone developed and is using in more and more missions, but it's driving me nuts. In several missions, electric lights are used and the tone the game has them emanate...well, I'm supposing it's supposed to be a soft hum, but instead it's a piercingly loud sine wave kind of tone, like you'd hear if you were taking a hearing aid test. It's literally deafening compared to the sounds in the rest of the game, and as more and more levels use this light, it's really cutting down on the levels I want to play. Since no other users seem to be reporting this, I'm wondering if it's because of my particular audio configuration. I am using EAX (through Creative ALchemy) on Windows 10 on a current Sound Blaster card, so I'm wondering if somehow the EAX processing is making the sound so damn loud. The latest mission that seems to have this sound is "In The Black." I'm including a screenshot of one of the lamps in question. This one is in kind of an odd spot on an internal balcony railing, and I can hear it buzzing from well down the hall in another room. There are other rooms that have several of these lamps as well. Is there any kind of tweaking I can do in the .pk4 files to silence this model of lamp until the issue is resolved? I really want to be able to play these missions without being deafened. I'm up for any kind of troubleshooting, or if you'd like me to make a recording from a USB mic of how loud the tone is compared to other sounds in the game to hear exactly what I'm experiencing.
  12. If so, then run the tdm-updater (and click "continue"), apostrophe. (because the updater checks the data for maingamedata-corruption. And if there corruption is detected, the updater downloads the original file) I thought that gray screens are opengl loadingscreens, so an opengl video-issue-thingy. -edit- But as a test I renamed tdm_gui01.pk4 to something else (simulating incomplete download). As result i got a black screen and a "invalid gui" error on top. and if i remove some binary codelines of the zip (simulating data corruption), i get a black screen. So i think still, its a video issue.
  13. First, please update your video drivers to the latest version. (to, at this moment version 390.65) Then check if the problem still exists. If so, could you post an application log for us? First check if there is a darkmod-log-file in your tdm folder. if so, open the file with notepad and copy its content to this topic in a spoiler-tag. If not, please create one and please post its content in a spoiler-tag. (See wiki article: Debuggin _TDM systemerrors) Tip: use my tdm launcher to load TDM executable with the arguments) And how about running tdm temporary, windowed and/or low sreen resolution? see instruction in topic: running-tdm-results-in-black-screen - entry406879 - edit - Using tdm arguments: +set r_customHeight 600 +set r_customWidth 800 +set r_fullscreen 1 (or select the options in the tdm launcher) We got also a wiki, with some solutions: http://wiki.thedarkmod.com/index.php?title=FAQ#Troubleshooting http://wiki.thedarkmod.com/index.php?title=Installation
  14. Did you not see the mirrors and reflections in Vanished One's "In the Black"..? They were great - especially the puddles of water. // also the rotation origin bug in dr24 appears to have been fixed in dr25
  15. Thank nbhor1more - I've tried the stuff mentioned in guru3d forums and also spoken with Nvidia about the issue - they've no idea... Ended up fixing the illustrator / photoshop stuff myself while Nahoor was reading the manual... I'll try out the colour depth thing - there's definitely some weird lights that flash up every now and then, in older games. The HDR thing oughtn't be an issue... Getting screen tearing scrolling up and down in browsers or pdfs. Something's definitely weird... Can't figure why stuff is fine in windowed, but not fullscreen. At least black is black, white is white, RGB is RGB, by my eye... Shame about the games. // i think i just made it worse... it's like the light at the end of the tunnel...
  16. Hi, This appears to directly affect TDM (or, rather, the "kind of dark mod now"). Win10 pro, v.10.0.15063 Build 15063.726 Nvidia 388.31 (15/11/17 or 11/15/17 for you yanks) - despite this was the same version I already had from October. Win10 updates on this day were KB4849011 and KB4048954 Something about these updates and / or the new Nvidia drivers has seriously up a lot of older games. But made newer games look better... Perhaps in how either DX and/or shader models are being handled. Colour lookup table is not being taken from system - is a "blank canvas". Cannot re-create previous "look" no matter what settings for brightness / gamma / contrast. Also, Nvidia DSR (ie, squeezing 4k resolution down into 1920x1080) now totally screws TDM. Can't even get onto the menu to change the resolution to native. Had to fix resolution down to native via config files. Have noticed issue in several older games, notably Farcry2. Game appears bleached out, unless xml edited to start game in windowed mode and and alt+enter to make full screen, resolution changed back up to native or 3840×2160 for DSR, DX 10. No vibrance. Some contrast can cause black spots, specular and shadow-cast affected. Draw distance for certain things (eg, certain lamps) has changed. Splinter Cell appears to be more vibrant, have higher contrast (very dark shadows and very bright lights). Inside TDM, this has resulted in some very weak shadows with very sharp edges. Can be difficult to discern light/dark areas (esp. for players like me who play without light-gem) Colours are more vivid, that's for certain. Screenshots appear normal - it is only "live" that this occours (like the migraines it induces). Same for all the games. Worse, it's affected colour reproduction in many graphics applications. Either that or my screen is broken and my printer profile has decided to turn 50 shades of darker in the past few days. For some reason it's also thinking I have two wacom tablets attached to the machine, instead of one... Think it's windows more than Nvidia... Icon cache is screwed on desktop - need to f5 to see new files. File explorer windows are resized after exiting affected application / game. Some processes need killing through task manager and refuse to exit... Might nuke the installation - no-one else appears to have noticed it. Checking if anyone else has (win10 insider with nvidia 980ti that used to have perfect colour profile).
  17. Hello all, I am trying to compile and play The Dark Mod under my platform (Gentoo Linux). After patching the patchable to make it compile, it turns out that no rendering is shown on screen at all: black screen (with resolution change), mouse is responsive and I can hear the reaction of the GUI to its movement (clicks and all); also the background music (soothing, charming, beautiful... but that you know already) cuddles my ears. I started the bisection of the code from version 2.05 (I think... it was r6753) to r7203. It took me a while (none of the commits compiles out of the box, and different ones require different patches), and in the end I found that r6834 works for me (at least the menu screen!), while r6835 does not any more (as above). I have the output to screen of two runs. In thedarkmod-r6834.txt, I started it with no arguments, and then quit. In thedarkmod-r6835.txt, I started it with no arguments, then I switched to a text console and killed it (because I could not see the GUI to quit). The only files that changed between the two runs are thedarkmod.x86, gamex86.so and tdm_game02.pk4. Any suggestion for me to have this work?
  18. freyk, I performed the following from the link you noted: sudo dpkg --add-architecture i386 sudo apt-get install libc6:i386 libstdc++6:i386 libx11-6:i386 libxext6:i386 libxxf86vm1:i386 libpng12-0:i386 libasound2-plugins:i386 libgl1-mesa-dri:i386 libgl1-mesa-glx libgl1-mesa-glx:i386 libglapi-mesa:i386 libglu1-mesa:i386 wget unzip sudo mkdir -p /usr/share/games/darkmod sudo chown -R nobody:users /usr/share/games/darkmod sudo chmod uga+w /usr/share/games/darkmod exitI moved all of my darkmod files to the new directory (which makes sense), reran 'tdm_update.linux', made 'thedarkmod.x86' executable, and tried to run it again. Again, black screens, which were mirroring each other when I exited the program. I changed the darkmod.cfg as shown in my first post, and ran 'thedarkmod.x86' again. This time, a black window. Here is my new console dump: Any thoughts?
  19. Yesterday I installed 'The Dark Mod' version 2.05 on my computer. ('tdm_update.linux' worked great, but took FOREVER. The resultant 'thedarkmod.x86' file is 6.5 MB in size.) My issues: When starting the program (./thedarkmod.x86), I get great audio, but only a black screen (window). When running on full desktop mode (not in a window), both monitors go black.I can hear clicking when I move the (invisible) mouse pointer within the black screen. Unfortunately, the only way I found to get things back to 'normal' is to do a 'CTRL+ALT+BACKSPACE', since I cannot get the mouse pointer to my desktop (when running in window mode).I cannot see what errors I may have gotten when launching from the command line, because of having to re-start my session (see line above). My computer system: OS: Linux Mint 17.3 (64 bit) CPU: Intel Core i7-3610QM @ 2.30 GHz x 4 System RAM: 8 GB Video Controller: Intel 3rd Gen Core processor Video Card: AMD / ATI Heathrow PRO [Radeon HD 7850M/8850M] Video RAM Available: 2048 MB Displays: Laptop [1920 x 1080 (16:9)], Standalone monitor [1920 x 1080 (16:9)] Anyway, from searching the forum for possible things to do to get video, I changed the following lines in my Darkmod.cfg file: seta com_videoRam "2048" seta r_aspectRatio "1" seta r_fullscreen "0" seta r_customHeight "900" seta r_customWidth "1600" seta r_mode "-1" seta sys_videoRam "0" Still, I get the black screen (window). My Darkmod.log shows: Any thoughts on how to actually 'see' what is hiding inside the black screen (or window)?
  20. So I was playing a mission when TDM decided to shoot itself and lock up. After resetting my computer, I found that the screen was smaller: Now I have two black bars on both sides, with the actual screen compressed between them. I tried playing with the screen size and aspect ratio, but all I can seem to do is make the graphics sharper or force TDM into a window instead of the full screen. Is there some ideal to get the screen back to where it was? Or should I just go with this, since the game seems to run a little better. Essentially, I've gone from this: http://imgur.com/a/mV6Hr to this: http://imgur.com/a/a43xn Apologies for the poor quality, I'm mainly trying to show screen compression. First one is wider, second one is narrower. EDIT: Current settings for the second pic. 4:3 for aspect ratio. 1024X786 for screen size
  21. And if you get a black screen, there is a error in your gui-code. And the console will display the number of the codeline.
  22. So I was following a tutorial on GUIs, and I since discovered that my installation (or TDM itself) seems unable to load both the custom GUIs (when you use the console command "testgui xxxxx.gui"), or the GUI editor that is supposed to come included in DOOM. The first simply fails, saying that the game cant load the gui, and the screen turns black (I´ve tried with a few different ones, even stuff from the startmap pack, and the results are the same), and the editor actually loads up, but when you click "new", nothing happens; when you try to load any gui, it says it cant import it or load it, and when you exit the program, TDM crashes, is unable to continue. Is that only on my end, or has the gui functionality somehow changed during the standalone process? Perhaps some of it hasnt been ported yet?
  23. Yes, the proper way to do this is to take advantage of shader branching. I remember looks at the backend awhile back and seeing that it creates black textures for any stage not supplied in a material so that the ARB shaders always have a texture input... (and I thought that was pretty dumb). Branching would also solve the issue were TGA normal maps require a different interaction than RGTC or other compressed formats.
  24. Hey! Thanks for the great help! I was able to get it running in windowed mode. There wasn't an existing darkmod.cfg file, so I created one with the seta r_fullscreen "0" command as the only line in the file. This allowed TDM to run successfully in a small window, from which I was able to adjust the video settings to run in a larger window. The game is now playable and runs great even at a 'Very High' LOD. (And, it is a spectacular and very worthy continuation of the Thief series!) Prior to getting TDM running in windowed mode, I did not see a darkmod.log file (that doesn't mean there wasn't one). I re-edited the darkmod.cfg file to contain the seta r_fullscreen "1" command, which does still cause the black screen/frozen computer issue if TDM is run normally. Then, I ran the command you posted to this thread and in the 'Debugging TDM systemerrors' online manual: thedarkmod.exe +gfxinfo +condump mylog.txt +quit. The resulting file, pbhallamlog.txt is attached to this reply. Any thoughts on how to get TDM running in fullscreen mode? Thanks again! pbhallamlog.txt
  25. I am unable to get TDM to run. I installed TDM using The Dark Mod Updater v0.66 into the C:\darkmod directory. When executing the TheDarkMod.exe application, the screen goes black, my monitor indicates that there is a 'HDMI' cable connection and then briefly brings up the monitor menu buttons overlay for a few seconds. After which, the screen is completely black. At this point, neither Control-Alt-Delete nor Alt-Control-Tilde work, the computer is frozen, and the computer requires a hard power down and reboot. A second reinstall of TDM shows the same results and behavior. I have attached a .txt file of the TDM Update Log Window. My system configuration is: ASUS Desktop PC CM6850 Series Intel Core i7-2600 CPU, 3.4 GHz 8 GB RAM Windows 10 Home, 64 Bit NVIDIA GeForce GT 530 (Driver Date:5/17/2017) 6134 MB Total Available Graphics Memory Any help on getting TDM running would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! TDM Update Log Window.txt
