  1. As of the title, If I turn on Ambient Occlusion, shadows are turned into pitch black. Cannot see things, It feels like being a real guard in the game. Any solution? AO is too nice, I want to keep this. (Turning it off is a simple solution for it, though) My gpu is AMD RX6700XT and its driver is almost latest version(adrenalin 22.9.1) Sorry for my poor English.
  2. I just downloaded the latest beta version of the Dark Mod right now and by starting this specific FM: Iris, I get this black screen with the music and ambient sounds in the background, but no picture showing. I was only able to get to the mission briefing page showing the objectives of the mission and then by clicking on "Objectives" It takes me to a black screen. What is causing this issue? My other fan missions work just fine, I tested out other ones, so it's not my game. Could be this is a broken fan mission?
  3. Hi I started testing the new "The Black Mage" mission in versions 2.09b and 2.10. I wanted to turn off the fog for better visibility and better performance. But I couldn't as my favorite variable stopped working! seta r_skipFogLights "1" In version 2.07 this variable worked and I was able to disable fog in Thief's Den 3 mission (Heart of Lone Salvation) Maybe there is other variables to disable fog in the latest versions of the game? If this is a bug, please fix it.
  4. So I got back to my desktop and installed the dark mod 2.09a, but when I start it I get a gray screen for a couple of seconds then a black screen. I can hear the music and the menu sounds when I move my mouse but I can't see anything. I tried some things from what I could see in the forums but nothing worked. I have a pretty old GPU but it should run it no problem I believe (a Radeon hd 4850). Things i tried: -Downloading the latest dev build -Downloading the build test15973-8787 -changing glcore from 2 to 1 and to 0 -changing the resolution to 800x600 -starting it in compatibility mode windows 7 -changing glsl -changing shadow to 0 - downloading an executable posted by stgatilov in a post about the same problem (I can't find it anymore) None of this worked and the log file doesn't show any issues. Any idea how to fix this or if I need an older version, because I believe the GPU should be able to launch the game properly at least?
  5. OK Guys i thought id installed OK but at the end i got a compatability error and when i tryed to launch i got a black screen ! I then tryed to reinstall with compatability settings and the installer said i had installed successfully ! Tryed to launch and got the black screen again. I did a little search on the forums and it's looking like this might be a known problem. Is it a compatability issue with radeon drivers or am i missunderstanding the thread i read ? I have an Asus R9 270 which I hope is still good enough to run this game ! I used to be !! I alreao read about a hotfix but dont wish to do anything untill i get advice. Thanks got your help in advance.
  6. Decided to start dedicated thread about this problem. Right now at least @Jedi_Wannabe and @id3839315 have it. Let's continue the discussion here.
  7. This seems to happen while leaning forward and frobbing, possibly in noclip? Will edit if I can replicate/get it to occur. Solved by restarting the game. Happened on Requiem and Perilous Refuge. 8. Hi everyone! Ok, I'm a great fan of Thief series that has been apart for years from the fans community... until now. Days ago I found the DDFix mod, then the HD Mod, and now this! Such a GORGEOUS mod guys, I have seen the demos! I can't wait to play it! Ok, but not that fast. After a hard time with the downloading (I live in the mountains and I connect to internet with a modem service in which I pay for every Mb downloaded), the game won't start. I get first a white screen when loading, and then a big black screen with beautiful and mysterious music (just to grow up my pain ). If I move the mouse cursor, I hear the sounds of the cursor being over the menu elements and I see some grey empty squares, without text. My computer equipement: - Toshiba Satellite (notebook), Intel DualCore T6500 2.10 Ghz processor, 3 Gb RAM - Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bits (Spanish). - External monitor Sony Bravia Smart TV (1920 x 1080 maximum). - Mobile Intel 4 Series Express Graphics GMA 4500MHD (128 Mb dedicated memory video). I have already search for this problem, and the only references to it which I have found involve Linux OS. The description of the bug is exactly the same, but the solutions are not applied to me. The only coincidence that I have noticed is that also involve an Intel Graphic card. I have tried also some editions of the file Darkmod.cfg and to replace the file tdm_base01.pk4 with another one patched for some Intel problem, but withou success. I needyour help guys, I'm about to break in tears. I feel I have all to play this game, but I don't have the knowledge to fix it by myself. Thanks forehand... Elojah.

  10. Hello! I can compile and run 2.07hotfix from SVN. I tried compiling the SVN trunk, using exactly the same method. It doesn't work, though - I get a blank screen and nothing else, not even audio. Here's the output. Note there's some binary junk in it. DarkMod.cfg: The suggestions at http://forums.thedarkmod.com/topic/19919-problem-with-207-some-level-unplayable/?p=435907 didn't help.
  11. Using my normal config settings, which worked fine a couple months ago, I'm now getting a nearly dark screen when starting a mission with SVN assets/code. I built the Windows binaries from the current SVN source, so it's up-to-date. The presentation is as if there is no lighting from in-game lights, and ambient is very very low. Anyone else seeing this? SVN is supposed to be kept bug-free, so that folks can work with the latest assets and code. If this isn't already being worked on, could the devs pls take a look at it and bring SVN back to expectations? Thanks.
  12. Yesterday I installed 'The Dark Mod' version 2.05 on my computer. ('tdm_update.linux' worked great, but took FOREVER. The resultant 'thedarkmod.x86' file is 6.5 MB in size.) My issues: When starting the program (./thedarkmod.x86), I get great audio, but only a black screen (window). When running on full desktop mode (not in a window), both monitors go black.I can hear clicking when I move the (invisible) mouse pointer within the black screen. Unfortunately, the only way I found to get things back to 'normal' is to do a 'CTRL+ALT+BACKSPACE', since I cannot get the mouse pointer to my desktop (when running in window mode).I cannot see what errors I may have gotten when launching from the command line, because of having to re-start my session (see line above). My computer system: OS: Linux Mint 17.3 (64 bit) CPU: Intel Core i7-3610QM @ 2.30 GHz x 4 System RAM: 8 GB Video Controller: Intel 3rd Gen Core processor Video Card: AMD / ATI Heathrow PRO [Radeon HD 7850M/8850M] Video RAM Available: 2048 MB Displays: Laptop [1920 x 1080 (16:9)], Standalone monitor [1920 x 1080 (16:9)] Anyway, from searching the forum for possible things to do to get video, I changed the following lines in my Darkmod.cfg file: seta com_videoRam "2048" seta r_aspectRatio "1" seta r_fullscreen "0" seta r_customHeight "900" seta r_customWidth "1600" seta r_mode "-1" seta sys_videoRam "0" Still, I get the black screen (window). My Darkmod.log shows: Any thoughts on how to actually 'see' what is hiding inside the black screen (or window)?
  13. I am unable to get TDM to run. I installed TDM using The Dark Mod Updater v0.66 into the C:\darkmod directory. When executing the TheDarkMod.exe application, the screen goes black, my monitor indicates that there is a 'HDMI' cable connection and then briefly brings up the monitor menu buttons overlay for a few seconds. After which, the screen is completely black. At this point, neither Control-Alt-Delete nor Alt-Control-Tilde work, the computer is frozen, and the computer requires a hard power down and reboot. A second reinstall of TDM shows the same results and behavior. I have attached a .txt file of the TDM Update Log Window. My system configuration is: ASUS Desktop PC CM6850 Series Intel Core i7-2600 CPU, 3.4 GHz 8 GB RAM Windows 10 Home, 64 Bit NVIDIA GeForce GT 530 (Driver Date:5/17/2017) 6134 MB Total Available Graphics Memory Any help on getting TDM running would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! TDM Update Log Window.txt
  14. I'm having a weird issue where I get a black screen whenever I click on objectives before jumping into my mission. I'm not sure what's causing this, and can't find anything on the wiki/forums on this glitch. Any help is appreciated.
  15. This has been happening for a while (since 2.02 at least) but I'm just now getting around to posting about it but when I try to use the spyglass all I get is a black screen. Any ideas? Fully updated TDM 2.03. Thanks, Richard
  16. Something I've changed in my map today caused it to show nothing but a black screen after it loads. I can see my lightgem and hear sound speakers that are near the starting position, but no music, no equipment, no movement, no crouching. Things I've changed: - Reworked the script file - Added a few nodrawsolid brushes and trigger entities, moved some items around - Deleted some patches My guess is the script is to blame, but even if I delete the script it loads black. I've seen this happen before in my test map that I used to test my scripts, there it got solved by dmapping again, but I've dmapped twice now for no gain. There's no leak. Has this happened to someone before maybe? [solved] Figured out the dmap wasn't updating the .cm file, only the .proc file. I've deleted the outdated .cm and ran dmap again, now it works.
  17. Hey guys, So i have an issue that keeps happening, and after investigating all the logic possibilities, i have not clue what this is about. First, there is a room that all the inside walls appear void when looking from outside of it. When i get inside, the surfaces are rendered, but the place i come from becomes void (black). I removed ALL the visportals from that region. (From outside) (From inside- Lighting adjusted) Second, a wall used by 2 rooms also becomes invisible, but you can see the inside of the rooms from outside. When inside these rooms, everything is just fine. Then again, no visportals. Any clues? Thanks!
  18. Playing in several different missions, it seems that black or very dark areas of the screen seem to take on a bluish-gray tinge, and stand out very strongly. This is visible in a variety of places - dark portions of wall near windows or sky; the spaces between cobblestones or other patterns and guards in shadow are especially so. It's less apparent in sections of the screen near my character, and also more apparent on the top half of my monitor than the bottom half. I've fiddled with my ingame brightness and gamma, turned the LOD up and down, recalibrated my monitor's display, and installed the most recent video drivers, but it still persists, both ingame and in screenshots. Black areas on other people's videos and screenshots appear normal, so I don't think my monitor itself is the problem. My video specs are: Video card:AMD Radeon HD 6700 Monitor: SyncMaster 920NW/920LM (I do have it set to 32bit color) I've also attached a screenshot; the wall in the mid-right of the image looks bluish-grey and is more visible than it should be.
  19. Hi there ^^ After launching thedarkmod.x86, i get a complete (and sometimes partly) Black Screen on openSUSE 12.3 (Updated)
  20. Hey guys I just installed TDM for the first time, after seeing it released as a standalone game. I am running Win 8.1 on an older pavilion g7 hp laptop with intel hd graphics and an i3 core. At first the game seemed to work, I was able to get to the main menu and even change the resolution settings. However as soon as I tried restarting the game to make the changes happen, it returned to leave me with a black screen. Just to reiterate: when I start the game now, the screen turns black, the resolution of the screen changes to 640x480 and a few seconds in I can hear the menu music and the scroll-over sounds of the buttons. I can only quit by using the Taskmanager. I tried all sorts of compatibility settings and I am running the game as administrator. in addition, I have already deleted the .ini and cfg files to let the updater download newer versions, to no avail. I appreciate any help I can get, because I really want to play TDM!
  21. Hi, I've tried to run TDM-2.0 downloaded via torrent (not from TDM website, it wasn't available there at that time) on my gentoo-x64 box. I've fixed a relative path problem by renaming the game's folder to "darkmod", but now it prints lots of errors like "WARNING:Couldn't load image: guis/assets/mainmenu/buttons_loadsave/loadmission" on startup. It finds all files in the search path, but can't load the images. The menu screen is completely black. Sound works fine, I can hear the feedback when I hover the mouse over a button. I guess not being able to see anything has to do with those image loading failures, right? Any idea how I can solve them? I've deleted the Darkmod.cfg and re-ran the updater, but that didn't solve the problem.
  22. The system is 32 bit Fedora Linux 19 with Xfce, on a laptop that isn't exactly gaming, with intel graphics but the errors aren't related to poor gl implementation from intel. I've downloaded the game from this torrent: https://thepiratebay...torrent/9024163 that I've found on one of threads here. All seems well after download but when I start the game I must go to tty2 and manually ps and kill the process because it's just black screen and music and I can't/didn't find the way to quit it. It's as if all fonts and gui assets are missing. I get hundreds of warnings such as WARNING:Couldn't load image: guis/assets/mainmenu/downloadable_mission_details WARNING:Couldn't load image: guis/assets/mainmenu/oldparchment_backdrop6 related to either fonts or guis. Updater in the torrent says it's up to date. Updater from site when ran in ~/darkmod/ first updates itself then too says game is up to date: [frex@localhost darkmod]$ ./tdm_update.linux TDM Updater v0.61 (c) 2009-2013 by tels & greebo. 23. Rather than necro couple year old thread I figured I should just make a new post in case others had the same issue I was and couldn't find an answer. I had the issue a couple months ago when I got Doom3 to try it and decided to give up figuring it was something with Steam version etc. Trying the Stand Alone 2.0 I had the same issue. I was able to launch the game and change game settings (which were muddied) but after I chose to restart the game the screen would be black and could hear the flicking over menu options with the mouse. In order to see the game again I had to delete darkmod.cfg (and run tdm_update.exe to replace it). After looking through old posts (and trying one? FAQ) I couldn't find the answer but did figure out through trial and error that Anti-aliasing was the issue. I have an AMD 5850 and in the Control Center>Gaming>3D Applicating Settings I found that under Anti-aliasing the Filter "EDGE DETECT" was the issue. I could set it to Wide Tent or Box and leave all the other settings alone and The Dark Mod would work. Hopefully if you have the issue you can find something similar in your cards settings. Also for me at least aliasing is limited to x8 in game so just set it to that instead of x16 just in case. The other little issue I had was the training mission not downloading and Tears of St. Lucia not loading after a save. However trying to download training mission and restarting did clear up the muddied menu settings. Anyway found out I had to rename and move the folder which I had so far left where it downloaded. So moving it to C:\games and renaming it simply "darkmod" (and probably running tdm_update.exe which was down the previous day) solved those issues. I don't appear to have any other issues so thanks to the folks who made this! hoping to dive in asap!
  24. The Problem: I can see the mouse cursor and the Steam overlay when I run TDM, but otherwise the screen is black. Gauging by the audio and my ability to exit the game by a bit of careful mouse-clicking and guesstimation, it seems the game is running fine apart from the lack of video. My End of Things: Core i5, 32GB RAM, nVidia 460 2GB graphics card, 100s of GB free HDD space on a 1TB drive C. Windows 7 Ultimate. Steam version of Doom3, claiming to be the correct version for TDM. Custom shortcut to run the game: "C:\Games\Steam\Steam.exe -applaunch 9050 +set fs_game_base darkmod" Customised resolution in C:\Games\Steam\steamapps\common\Doom 3\darkmod\DoomConfig.cfg to 1920*1200, Disabled Threaded Optimisation in nVidia Control Panel. I made this change after having a glance at the TDM Wiki. Enabling Threaded Optimisation does not appear to have any effect. What I'm Thinking It appears the game resets DoomConfig to a display resolution of 7xx*4xx whenever I run it. I've tried to write-protect the file, but that didn't stop the game from changing it. And I'm guessing the weird resolution the game insists on is outside the range of my panel (a nice, if older, Eizo 26" with a native resolution of 1920*1200).
  25. I've a black screen when I start the training mission, I can hear the sounds but no graphics. My system specs are: Pentium IV 1.6 GHz 512 RAM 64 MB Video Card I can run Doom 3 fine, albeit with low settings and a few tweaks on the configs here and there. Were my config tweaks the problem? Or is it because of the fact that TDM doesn't have Quality options? If so, how can I fix this?
