So, what are you working on right now?

Time for me to show up something. Currently I'm working on a pagan forest setting. I'd like to have really large and wild forest. What you see below is a forest map at its very beginning - more like a model test map, but it gives an idea of the direction I'm going. As you can see, most of the forest is not dressed yet and not populated enough with trees. I hope engine will manage.

Whats the score on this..?

You've already got a ton of "suspension of disbelief" when dealing with rope arrows. TDM's rope connects back at the feathers, which means the arrow shaft is supporting a couple hundred pounds when in use. Should just snap right off.

But they are cool. I was watching an episode of Robin Hood (BBC production from a few years ago), and Robin used a rope arrow to scale a castle wall once. Normal arrow with a rope tied just behind the arrowhead. Don't know how it didn't slip back down the shaft and off when he started climbing.

It's all so ridickoolus. It would need to anchor at 2 points, in case you don't realize, like a Batarang. I mean, get real. Then you could properly creep up the side of a castle properly with 35 golden cups and a bag of flashmines, the way we did in the old days. Like men. Men with clicky shoes and light-gems.

Someone was saying we needed more and better plants. Still trying to get more depth from the texture. All WILL have specular map.

So I decided to try a little hi poly stuff and some LOD models for Tels to mess with.

post-1981-128423413535_thumb.jpg

I plan to make a few arrangements/sizes and a few single leafs to help mix it up.

1: hi poly, approx 6,000 tris, diffuse only - 10 leaves.

2: mid poly, approx 2,000 tris, diffuse and normal

3: Low poly, about 650 tris, diffuse (alpha) and normal

4: same as 3, no alpha.

Might have been me but I was referring to ground cover by which I mean extensive scrubby weedy foliage with lots of wild rough leafage to cover the ground. This can be placed to obscure and soften sharp clean edges. I'm not thinking of single beautiful garden plants but scraggly low-lying leafage the mapper can throw down to carpet areas. I don't know how better to describe it. Maybe I can find a picture.

I can't find exactly what I mean but these give some idea. I don't mean foliage that extends for miles like Oblivion but perhaps 3 or 4 layers of foliage that can be placed to cover alongside walls and paths and buildings etc. Maybe decal textures would be better rather than a model so the mapper can place varied patches overlaying one another a few inches higher to get more randomness and cover a larger area than just single plant models.

Since we have snow, it would be nice to have a few dead plants. Brown, stringy, exhausted.

I've been using green shrubs in my map w/snow, on the premise that some plants stay green regardless of the weather.

But I'm sure there have to be dead winter plants somewhere in Bridgeport.

@Baddcog: Those look great! Can't wait to see the specular map versions!

I can't stop laughing at this post. Somehow it seems like a veiled reference to Robin Hood: Men in Tights ... Now I wish that Cary Elwes would guest narrate an FM ...

I've updated the articles for your FMs and your author category at the wiki. Your newer nickname (DeTeEff) now comes first, and the one in parentheses is your older nickname (Fieldmedic). Just to avoid confusing people who played your FMs years ago and remember your older nickname. I've added a wiki article for your latest FM, Who Watches the Watcher?, as part of my current updating efforts. Unless I overlooked something, you have five different FMs so far.

I've finally managed to log in to The Dark Mod Wiki. I'm back in the saddle and before the holidays start in full, I'll be adding a few new FM articles and doing other updates. Written in Stone is already done.

I like the new frob highlight but it would nice if it was less "flickery" while moving over objects (especially barred metal doors).
