So, what are you working on right now?

Only if you think any other technology debate is silly, I guess. Are you okay with machine guns or colt 45s in our setting? There's no reason they couldn't exist either.

I'm the kind of person who likes to exercise as little suspension of disbelief as possible when it comes to the setting. YMMV.

Me too. When I say mappers can stretch the setting, of course there should be -without saying- a sensible limit for things so that the suspension of disbelief works. Well unless, the player stumbles in some sort of magical future portal or Jules Vernean steam time machine, which would be cool and allowed in my opinion. But MG's and colts are a bit too far fetched for our setting. I'd would use, instead of those, say some sort of muskets or flintlock weapons.

They say a picture is worth a thousand words, this thread seems to back that up :D

--------

I honestly didn't think they'd spark this much debate.

I will say that thinking about it on Spring's side of the discussion that maybe the detail is 'too fine' comparetively, of course that could be a pixel density arguement too.

I was just trying to fill in some loot amount/decorations gaps.

I don't want to remove them as I think they are perfectly acceptable as an item. They really aren't that far reaching imo.

However, maybe a good comprise would be to change the uv's on the picture itself. This would result in fewer skins and more models (20-30 k each). But then the smallest portraits (miniatures) (like the one shown) would simply be the guys head, not his whole torso.

The boat would just be a close up of one boat, not an entire scene.

That would even out the detail level compared to the other paintings. They would still had to use smaller brushes but that's OK. (I'm actually thinking brushes/palette/easel would be good objects to have. (plus blank canvases and frames)

They are great for moderately wealthy households. Gotta have some art because it shows you have money, but can't quite afford the large painting so you get the 'study' instead. Still enough to make the peasants envious.

Well since everyone else is voicing their opinion I guess I'll throw mine in as well :)

Mappers are free to create absolutely anything they want with the tools at their disposal. There is no oversight or limits to creating missions, if there's something that is so absolutely ridiculous such as machine guns and cell phones then that map really won't do very well now will it. People won't play it, won't download it and it will disappear into obscurity in no time at all.

Stop basing all decisions off of reality, this is fantasy after all, this is a Gothic steam punk alternate universe where anything is possible. The original games gave us a glimpse into the minds of the Looking Glass developers, but we're not LGS devs. We have our own imaginations and likes and dislikes.

Just my opinion and it's one I'll continue to hold until this project is done 30 years from now. Much love to all the devs how made this mod possible, you're hard work and dedication gives the rest of us the opportunity to use these tools in ways you never thought of. <3

I always assumed I'd taste like boot leather.

Yeah, I'm not arguing for getting rid of them...as I said earlier I may have misjudged the size in the screenshot. Though I like your proposal...I think that makes a lot of sense and also keeps the images from getting too repetitive.

That's true for individual missions, but it doesn't quite work that way when we're talking core mod assets.

There is no such thing as "too blue".

Come the time of peril, did the ground gape, and did the dead rest unquiet 'gainst us. Our bands of iron and hammers of stone prevailed not, and some did doubt the Builder's plan. But the seals held strong, and the few did triumph, and the doubters were lain into the foundations of the new sanctum. -- Collected letters of the Smith-in-Exile, Civitas Approved

Funny, I was going to post exactly the same thing, but I considered the post too uninformative. ;D

But now that Shadowhide posted, when you think about it, lights in Winter Harvest were way too saturated, so there is in fact such a thing as "too blue".

I liked the lights in Winter Harvest. They were colourful, but I think they fit the theme well (although I personally tend to use less saturated or plain white lighting).

They were almost purple. I really didn't like the lighting in that mission. It felt a little too unreal to me.

Probably wouldn't hurt to have an object with a grouping of 6-8 pews. Would cut down on draw calls in a place that huge quite a bit. Don't know if Seed is capable of giving that exact of a layout. It would need some args like :row 2, columns 6, spacing x, spacing y.

Looks like you need to set

"randseed" "0"

(The language on the wiki is contradictory: "Default: 0. The random seed. If not set or set to 0, a random value will be used" )

Edit: Nope... clear as mud... sorry...

Is this too blue?

No, it's awesome. I'm not a huge fan of the light rays coming from the windows though.. I mean, it's nice, but choose a side. It looks weird when they come from two different sides and intersect.

edit: nevermind! Just saw some other pics and you did chose a side :)

No, randseed has nothing to do with it. If you set randseed to a positive number, you get the same sequence (that belongs to that number). So you get random numbers, but they are always the same no matter wether the player reloads the map.

If you set it to 0, it generates a new sequence every time you restart the map (but the sequence of course persists across savegames, so save and reload will not change the appearance).

The screenshot was probably forgetting to set the watch_brethren spawnarg, so instead of just combinging stuff, SEED created new ones :)

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?

Looks like the "Reverse April Fools" releases were too well hidden. Darkfate still hasn't acknowledge all the new releases. Did you play any of the new April Fools missions?
