So, what are you working on right now?

Time for another trolly quality image.

While waiting for the 3.1.0 update to arrive, I figured I'd make a new map. There are no typical lights in this map. Instead I textured everything in glowing marble. If you squint really hard, you can make out a noblewoman on a balcony. She's pitch black and can't see a thing, but she still panics when she hears your footsteps. Maybe this map is a comment on racism or something - I dunno. I'll keep doodling on it.

I don't know how to model, and so I made a window prefab instead. It's 42 brushes, and 6 entities, per window.
I'm going to have lots of windows, so buy new computers.

"But Nort, why is it 42 brushes big? Have you handcrafted every brick in it?"

Only some of them.

"But Nort, didn't that take a stupid amount of time, which you could have spent watching advanced futa porn instead?"

It probably took a few hours, yes.

There fixed your post for you. That's all you need.
All the other text is superfluous.

Also, yes, it looks good.

I always assumed I'd taste like boot leather.

I have no idea how Biker did the reflective water effect in the second shot (pretty sure this is not something from the core mod)

I agree with @AluminumHaste. It looks more like light below the water as well as the wooden beams continuing there, distorted by heat haze.

There are, however, means to create reflections in tdm. For one you can use realtime reflections (mirrorMap), which are performance houngry and, at least the last time I played with them, unstable (got some nasty ctd's). The other approach are cubemaps. There is a wiki article dealing with the latter. There was also a thread once discussing another approach, also using shaders.

Second shot isn't reflection from what I can see. Looks great, and biker will take great care of the mission.

From the Fractured Glass Discord chat with Biker regarding the image in question:

"this is the current more realistic water at night with reflections, the issue is the reflections are nothing of the sort, just a decal over the top faking some semplance of it..."

Grayman's Legacy: Seeking Lady Leicester

"Seeking Lady Leciester" is the second WIP grayman's son donated to the TDM community according to grayman's will. Bikerdude adopted the mission in June 2021.

I asked Bikerdude how he is doing with this particular WIP, so he sent me the following pictures, which I'm allowed to post here:

Anyhow, I think grayman would like these pictures.

More information will follow in due course.

That second shot with the reflective water is very atmospheric. I am thinking if used properly in future missions it will have the same leverage as the first implementation of soft shadows for the dark mod.

One thing I believe TDM is lagging in the realism department is the lack of high quality low height vegetation. It is unbelievable how much more realistic a scene can be with that aspect added. But who am I to tell.

I am a bit appalled about this supposed "will". What is the reference you base this on? Grayman explicitly told us not to release his works. His exact words were: "If I die, the story of William Steele ends with me. No handing off my FMs to others".

The Black Mage and Seeking Lady Leicester FMs are not part of the William Steele series and were expressly offered for adoption by grayman, as opposed to the remaining chapters of the William Steele Series.

      Beta test(er) tip:
Test your mission at least once with all lights on. This can be done using notarget in console. Maybe just quickly fly around with noclip.
Also test all lights which are off by default (enable all lights via script?). Mission testers will miss a lot of light bugs, because they take out lights with water arrows etc. and don't turn on lights so they don't spot light leaks etc. I've seen this now in some recent new missions after they're released.

What is actually grammatically correct when it happens in the future? “Paul Atreides is an idiot” or ‘Paul Atreides was an idiot’? or ‘Paul Atreides will be an idiot’? The latter would at least fit in with the whole psychic and providence stuff!
