Not to be too picky, but I think you'd need to make the oven space bigger. I don't think someone would build a 5-tone oven and then only add space to bake only one bread. You'd need an aweful lot of coal/wood just to bake one bread, while with the like twice the amount of fuel you could bake 10 or 20 breads at once :)

Here are a couple inspirtional websites (german only, sorry) from authentic bread bake houses:

My main inspiration is a video of a tudor house where the oven is built into the wall of the house. Yes, looking at it again the actual ovens are somewhat bigger. I'll review that tomorrow but not excited about the prospect of having to redo that.

yeah - they're great. I see that last one has images of flat irons so that must be a compartment where they heated up their irons before electricity. They must be among the first icons in history! And I thought Windows invented icons.

OK, We've been needing some of these

But I don't know what they are called. For the corners of roofs.

This one is around 275 tris, I figure it's good for prominant/fancy/well lit buildings.

I plan to make a few very low poly and/or alpha versions that are just good for silohettes.

I'm also putting them into arch/fencing.. as they are kindof fencing for roofs/barriers

So if anyone knows the name so I can google more styles that would be awesome, and if anybody has objections to being in fencing, didn't want to start a new folder and didn't find a better folder.

A Google image search for "wrought iron" gives a lot similar objects, including fences and gates.

Add "roof" to that and it gives at least some on rooftop wrought iron decorations.

How about this one?

Maybe make it in two parts so it can be made to oscillate back and forth slowly in the wind? I suppose basically they have fixed NSEW pointers plus the turning thing on top. Oh yea, if you do, make sure North is erm.. the green direction I think it is to save mappers having to turn it! :P

Now enlarged the left oven. They are both very deep so this is reasonably substantial and would take a side of pork imo. I decided to leave the right hand oven the smaller size. I think it adds character and the two ovens can be regarded for different cooking tasks - small pot roast or a huge Christmas goose. Also changed the texture on the doors. I wasn't going to use rust before but since they didn't have stainless steel I guess most iron would rust up except for knives, swords etc which got sharpened up I guess. Anyway, a bit more character. I'll see if I can blacken the insides more. They didn't have Mr. Muscle in those days either.

They might have had Hammerite.

Yeah, that looks quite good now, definitely need to add the black soot on the inside.

I like the two sizes.

I wouldn't use rust though, that's heavy rust but an oven is gonna be hot and dry. Iron takes water to rust...

there's a blue steel, plain grey steel or possibly a black steel (think streetlamp tex, don't think it's got any critical details on it)

OK, rust removed. This is iron_rough which has plenty of character and looks well worn and somewhat blackened plus my grime on the inside.

The hogshead is just for scale. Don't know if I'm going to include that. oven should be big enough if it can take that.

That's a good use of textures and decals.

Fidcal, I think the oven doors were made of cast iron. If anything, the doors should be blackened because of a) the excess fat that is burned and B) grime from the burning wood/coal. I like the second version with the rough iron better, but maybe there's a way to make it more blackened and grimy.

My Eigenvalue is bigger than your Eigenvalue.

Yes it's a compromise. If it were really blackened with baked on grease it would be hard to see in the shadow or even with the lantern so you lose some character. So I think I'll settle for this.

I'm about finished with this. I'll kick it around for a few weeks before uploading as prefabs because it is complex enough I feel as soon as I upload I'll find something I want to change. If anyone is desperate for either the range or the oven though I can upload it.

Meanwhile I'm decorating the rest of the kitchen then I want to move on to another room or it will be Christmas 2011 before this is done!

I just uploaded a new version of the Visible Player Hands mod. It's been updated for TDM 2.13 and has new animations. Check out the post if you're interested!

I moved from Manjaro Linux (rolling release) to Linux Mint (LTS). One of the reasons was that I found the updates a bit too often and long. But now on Mint I get updates every day, although they're usually small updates.

I'd like to track my level design progress a bit more often now, so I'm using the feed in my profile here.
I've been working intensively on Springheel's YouTube course over the past few days. I'm currently up to lesson 8. There is so much information that needs to be processed and practiced.
I have started to create my own house. As I don't have the imagination to create a good floor plan, I grabbed a floor plan generator from Watabou and experimented with it. I chose a floor plan that I will modify slightly, but at least I now have an initial idea.
I used two guards as a measuring tape: The rooms are two guards high. It turned out that I can simply double the number of boxes in DarkRadiant in grid size 8 that are drawn in the floor plan.
I practiced the simplest things on the floor plan first. Drawing walls, cutting walls, inserting doors, cutting out frames, creating VisPortals, furnishing rooms.
I have had my first success in creating a book. Creating a book was easier than I thought. I have a few ideas with books. The level I'm creating will be more or less a chill level, just for me, where I'll try out a few things. I don't have an idea for my own mission yet. I want to start small first.
For the cellar, I wanted to have a second entrance, which should be on the outside. I'm fascinated by these basement doors from the USA, I think they're called Bilco basement doors. They are very unusual in Germany, but this type of access is sometimes used for deliveries to restaurants etc., where barrels can be rolled or lifted into the cellar.
I used two Hatch Doors, but they got completely disoriented after turning. I have since got them reasonably tamed. It's not perfect, but it's acceptable.
In the cellar today I experimented with a trap door that leads to a shaft system. The rooms aren't practically finished yet, but I want to continue working on the floor plan for now. I'll be starting on the upper floor very soon.

On a lighter note, thanks to my cat-like reflexes, my superior puzzle skills and my perfect memory, I was able to beat the remastered version of "Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation" in a new superhuman record time of 23 h : 35 m, worship me!
