How do I hang a ragdoll rope?

Recommended Posts

What's the best method for hanging a ragdoll rope from the ceiling? I assume you have to use the "bind" command but I'm not sure exactly what the best method is. Do you make a dummy entity on the ceiling to bind the rope to?

NM, stupid question. I didn't realize the origin was anchored by default.

I'm working on a ragdoll chain right now, actually. It will be in the next update (trying to figure out how to make it stop sounding like a rope while climbing).

If you don't mind me jumping in on this thread and asking a question too, is there any way to get a nice rope fence? - the kind that you would see beside canals, docks, etc. Would it be best to just model it as something static?

You can make static rope as a patch cylinder. There is a rope texture somewhere. Switch to vertex mode (Key V I think by default) and drag down its centre to get a slight curve. There were such ropes in Saint Lucia as washing lines etc. The upright posts could be just brushes.

I hope you'll consider chain is heavier than rope, so it shouldn't move as rope does.

Yep. :) It already moves quite well. We just need to change how climbing sound work so we can make it sound like chain instead of rope.

I also plan on making some versions with a few spiky things on the end of it. B)

Climbing sound is one thing but another thing is collision sound. While rope is quiet enough to have no impact sounds, chain is expected to produce sounds when hits a wall or some object. Is it possible to implement?
