(Fan Mission) "Lockdown Part 1"

Ooooh crap...

Really really sorry, guys! >.<

I have risen from the cold grave... Or maybe not. ;)

The reason I haven't been here is that there have been some stuff to take care of and some programming on my own engine and my own games. But I've got some free time to spend on my favorite game mod of all time now. I'm of course talking about this mod, in case that wasn't implied. :D

And yes, I am in fact working on the second one and I'm touching up the first one to get it just good enough so there wont be any major bugs when people actually play the thing. :)

Lockdown part 1's level size is a bit bigger this time so there's some stuff I have to thoroughly test myself so I can finish the mission on all difficulties so I am sure others can do the same.

It's likely I'll spring for another "beta test" before I make the real thread with the release so this thread can sink into the deep abyss of dead threads. :D

Again, I apologize for my absence but it was sort of enforced.

Given the early praise from some of the best mappers here, I am really looking forward to trying this. :) (I spent an evening trying to google for the old beta version to no avail...)

Please visit TDM's IndieDB site and help promote the mod:

(Yeah, shameless promotion... but traffic is traffic folks...)

I'd be down for testing it... but what happened to the pictures in the original post? They are now 1> random lava stuff, 2> no longer there 3> some pretty girl (!).. but yeah, I'll test your map if you need extras :D

Good idea nbohr1more,

I'm running a core2duo 2.53ghz 3gb ram and a 1gb radeon 5850..

Oh cool :) I'll PM it to you (both) when I'm done with this arduous screening process. Shouldn't take too long though.

@Xarg: I don't know, the pictures disappear after a while and get replaced by some random junk other people upload I guess.

Furthermore I don't think my mission is the most computationally heavy out there (?). I'm trying my best to keep the mission well "vis-portalized" so most of the processing actually is relevant stuff.

Anyone else up for testing it?

GameDevGoro: Glad you're back and working on this. If you're still short of beta testers try plans B, C, D

B. Start a new thread here headed Beta testers wanted for...

C. Ditto in the FM Thief forum at ttlg.

D. Ask me as a last resort. I'm very busy with other Dark Mod stuff so this is only in emergency. :)

If THAT is what we are alpha testing.... predictions? HUGE success.... feedback will be slow though.

Hey, Bikerdude.

Yeah sure, that's cool. :)

I just hope I didn't make it too big of a mess, with the vis-portal stuff and all. I tried my best to cram as much of that action in as possible, even though the map is fairly cramped because of the general atmosphere I was going for.

So if it is a mess: I'm sorry. :(

If it's not that big of a mess: Awesome. :D

Just finished playing through this FM and I had a blast. It's sad that there will be no part 2/3 because it was a really enjoyable mission. Was small enough to keep the interest but big enough to draw me into the world, I loved how there were quite a few details sprinkled here and there about everyone's life. It really felt like I was exploring a city that felt alive.

The detail in the streets was absolutely fantastic and crawling around going from house to house was great, plenty of access points!

Hopefully TDM can get more FM's like this!

edit: oops sorry I just realized this was the wrong thread to post in! Going to post in the actual release thread.

I've been replaying some of the older FMs. Lockdown was the last one I just finished.

I puzzled over why my latest playthrough was on easy. So naturally I started again at the hardest level 'cause I'm a master thief, dammit.

Yeah, right! This is a relatively small map---and it still took me over two hours to finish on ghost! I barely got past that first alley and that guard that goes back and forth. I missed tons of stuff no matter how well I searched every nook and cranny. Sweet Jebus...

GameDevGoro, I hate you! ... Don't ever change :)

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?

Looks like the "Reverse April Fools" releases were too well hidden. Darkfate still hasn't acknowledge all the new releases. Did you play any of the new April Fools missions?
