Candle qualms

Its pretty easy, from start to finish :

  • Create a new candle entity (not model)
  • Select the candle
  • Go to the Entity tab
  • In the top bar under the list put in "set _color on flame"
  • In the bar under that put the value "0.78 0.45 0.13"
  • Hit enter

And you should be done. Note that there is no colour picker easily accessable this way. So use a test light first to find the correct values that you want :)

great, perfect. set light_radius on flame works as well. is there a resource of useful info like this that i can reference when trying to modify other entities in DR? i've been looking through the wiki and found nothing like this that has useful commands. like "on". never would of figured the syntax would be "on" as opposed to "to" or just nothing at all to link it to that entity, but i got no idea what i'm doing. what is the name of what i'm doing here when i use this syntax to modify things. Am I spawnarging, or scripting, or just editing?

Have you been reading the wiki? You should really familiarize yourself with editing in Dark Radiant. It doesn't sound like you've covered the basics yet.

Im currently on page 4 of the A to Z guide at the time i started playing with the candles. Notice how i was creating candles in my original post is EXACTLY how the A to Z guide tells you to do it. i searched that tutorial list, as well as the category list in the wiki, and some of the subcategories of those categories before posting. Just plain haven't been able to find anything. sorry, just totally noob.

I think the A-Z was written well before light entities were constructed. So at that time a candle WAS a manual job. But now they are pretty much a one click creation (unless you want to change them somehow).

I suppose Fidcal will read this and update the A-Z. ????

Combo entities are a relatively "new" concept, and we still worked out some issues, and DR doesn't properly support them yet (it does not preview the auto-attached entities, nor does it let you "set" spawnargs on them), so you must do it manually. Sorry but we hope to improve this some time :)

There is a wiki article, tho:

As someone else wrote, we forgot to update the A to Z guide. Sorry! You can update it yourself, if you wish, or wait until someone else has time.

i am so euphoric to see new FMs keep coming out and I am keen to try it out in my leisure time, then suddenly my PC is spouting a couple of S.M.A.R.T errors...
tbf i cannot afford myself to miss my network emulator image file&progress, important ebooks, hyper-v checkpoint & hyper-v export and the precious thief & TDM gamesaves. Don't fall yourself into & lay your hands on crappy SSD

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?
