PysmH reported in the public forums that the reason for the omnidirectional footstep sounds is the respecitve OGG files being encoded in stereo. We need to convert these files back to mono.

I'll send a PM to Dram whether he got the original WAV files around somewhere.

Question from a sound noob: Is it possible to remove one channel from the stereo without recompressing them, and thus end up with mono, or would that not work?

I reported some non-directional sounds before we released (believe they were AI alert/combat vocals), but when we checked they were all encoded in mono. It's probably worth doublechecking, but might be some other weird thing going on.

I remember that. It's with the pro vocals right? It's because they reproducing what's called at anti-phase effect, giving an untrue mimicry of stereo. Actually, to be true, it's making the vocals sound like they are coming from behind you (creating wack tonal appearance of stere). I believe this was created somehow when I engineered them to pitch bend a semitone lower. It's a bit of an anomaly since pitch bending shouldn't do that. The only fix is to re-do the entire vocal set, though at this point, I am willing to sit a new actor down and redeliver the lines, since it's the worse acted of all the voice sets.

Are we sure they are? He didn't seem certain.

Yeah, I checked it myself.

edit: I converted them now, from OGG to OGG. If Dram replies to my PM, I can re-export them from WAV, provided he still has those files.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?

Looks like the "Reverse April Fools" releases were too well hidden. Darkfate still hasn't acknowledge all the new releases. Did you play any of the new April Fools missions?
