Hotkey for showing/hiding lightgem?

Hi,

It would be nice to have an option to turn the lightgem on and off with a single keystroke. I know it can be turned on/off from gameplay menu but didn't find an option to assign it for a hotkey. I would use that option a lot, it adds to immersion when having it off like when being in safe areas, but also important to turn it on when enemies are nearby.

I don't know why anybody would want to hide that one except for screenshots, but you can bind your own command in the console:

bind "F7" "toggle tdm_hud_hide_lightgem 1 0"

I for one always want to know whether I'm in darkness or not.

Thanks for the tip Greebo, works great!

I just like playing 1st person games without having anything extra shown on the screen(like Condemned or Peter Jackson's King Kong) since it really adds to the immersion, and I don't see any problems turning the light gem off when there are no enemies nearby. But of course it's just a matter of taste.

I actually wanted the option in so people could try "iron-manning" missions. :)

Would it really be bad if we had a possibility to add a key combo for it in the emenu? (Apart from the work of course) I imagine a lot of people don't know you can hide the light gem via hotkey and it might be very handy for screenshots.

Ah I didn't know that cmd either. It's nice to play without it for a change. After all you can tell pretty well how visible you are most of the time and the game really becomes a little more immersive. My gamestyle for replaying a mission is now "expert, no lightgem, no saves"... =)

On that note, a friend just had the idea of periodical autosaving, which I also find pretty good. It supports the "only reload when dead"-players... :) Might end up getting more complicated though if exception shall be implemented for in-combat saving or saving while enemies are alerted.

I've been playing without the lightgem ever since I noticed the option to hide it. It's much more immersive to work out whether you're in darkness by actually examining the light levels around you than looking at the lightgem.

Finally got my PC back from the shop after my SSD got corrupted a week ago and damaged my motherboard. Scary stuff, but thank goodness it happened right after two months of FM development instead of wiping all my work before I could release it. New SSD, repaired Motherboard and BIOS, and we're ready to start working on my second FM with some added version control in the cloud just to be safe!

I've updated the articles for your FMs and your author category at the wiki. Your newer nickname (DeTeEff) now comes first, and the one in parentheses is your older nickname (Fieldmedic). Just to avoid confusing people who played your FMs years ago and remember your older nickname. I've added a wiki article for your latest FM, Who Watches the Watcher?, as part of my current updating efforts. Unless I overlooked something, you have five different FMs so far.

I've finally managed to log in to The Dark Mod Wiki. I'm back in the saddle and before the holidays start in full, I'll be adding a few new FM articles and doing other updates. Written in Stone is already done.
