Texture Sources

The best place to find wallpaper textures? Why from an online wallpaper retailer, of course! Browsing through the samples has netted me more than a few potentially good textures to be used in the game, in fact the beige wall that's on display in my most recent room mockup was sourced from here.

Some are a little cheesy and wouldn't work in the Thief universe, but if you dig around the site for a few you'll find some excellent textures that are well worth throwing in. I intend on taking a few and piecing them together to make some nice, detailed walls.

If anyone else has any good websites we can source from, place em here. They don't even have to be useable as actual textures, if we can get a few ideas or inspirations from then they're more than welcome.

Hey Gang,

I'm still on my little trek through Canada. I'll be in Ottawa for a little while tomorrow and hope to see some possible texure sources. I don't have a digital camera unfortunatly....it's just a little cheapie that my mom gave me to take vacation pics with.

She is going to be sorely disappointed when she finds out all that I did was take pics for this Mod. Ha.

I'll be around with some pics sometime next week.

Later.

Found another great texture source, this being a bit more my style and somewhat fitting with the theme I want for my eventual map.

These 2 pictures in particular piqued my interest...

I'm obviously gonna have to change the style a bit for the mod, but I've always liked the derelict look.

I spent the night in an abandoned sanitarium this past weekend and took plenty of pictures. Here's some low res samples of some stuff I got on digital, I also took some with 800 speed film but haven't developed them yet.

Wow, very cool stuff, Phantom.

lol, it seems that no matter where you are are there's always an abandoned asylum close by.

Waverly is supposedly the second most haunted place in the US, next to Gettysburg, but I'll be damned. I didn't see anything at all. Yeah, it's a scary place, 5 stories tall, 100,000 square feet, 68,000 deaths, but I'm not so sure it's haunted. I donated a hundred bucks to the restoration so that I could spend the night in there. I have no stories to tell, the only thing I left with was pictures... <_<

Yeah, I've been to so many supposedly haunted places, but I've yet to ever see anything even remotely resembling a ghost. There have been plenty of weird goings-on, but I dunno if it could be anything classified as supernatural.

But anyway, I've got a couple of links to add to the huge dispository.

Fairly nice find, I'm sure I could find a use for at least a couple of textures here.

And one for inspiration...

I've actually been to this place quite a few times. It's definately got a nice ambience to it that could be best described as "creepy as hell", specially when you go out there late at night.

The site itself has a touch of teh corny about it, but the pictures that they've managed to dig up are excellent.

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?

Looks like the "Reverse April Fools" releases were too well hidden. Darkfate still hasn't acknowledge all the new releases. Did you play any of the new April Fools missions?
