Hello, I have a City Watch Station that is almost complete, with 3 floors and visportals and Npcs and lights and all.

Unfortunately, I will never manage to complete that mission in a reasonable amount of time.

Should I post it here, or should I send a PM in the other sticky thread that contains the abandoned works?

I'd love to see some more carpet varieties, especially more plain carpet colours. Also some nice plaster ceiling textures such as those lovely sculpted plaster ceilings.

Sadly I'm hopeless at textures.

Carpets and rugs would actually be quite easy, since I think the same bump map would work. So it's just a matter of finding a good, head-on & evenly lit photo source, then make sure it tiles (or anyway isn't untilable; just making sure it's rectangular is probably fine) and fits in a 2^X size. Some plaster ceiling/walls would need a good bump map.

What do you see when you turn out the light? I can't tell you but I know that it's mine.

For this idea to be truly valuable, there needs to be a way for things like this to be uploaded to TDM Downloads

so they aren't lost. All but one of these links are broken, if there was a way to upload prefabs/textures/models

directly to TDM Downloads, then links would be permanently available for all.

Yeh we do, but we don't have any carpet, plain coloured painted wood and plaster ceiling tiles/cornices woulc be fantastic. I've

just made a new boat prefab (needs tweaking), and some paint textures would be wicked. We only have one, blue. There

is a white, but it's not just boards, or planks.

Also some plain un-patterned wood panels that fit the timber panels, red/grey. Mostly for patches.

We seriously need a place where all these sorts of things are kept, most of the links to the stuff

in this thread are broken links. If ppl give us something, there should be a place where

it will always be. A TDM FTP or something, where it won't get broken links.

Here's a good base for a glowing glass texture:

https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/b/bd/Snow_Glow.jpg

A bit of blurring and a grimy overlay are recommended.

Using that, I changed the original diffuse texture for textures/darkmod/window/largesquare02_lit, so now it looks like this:

post-2153-0-10455100-1516055693.jpg

The files are attached in this post:

http://forums.thedarkmod.com/topic/8991-nominate-poor-textures/?p=417482

(includes a missing specular map for the unlit version)

Here's roughly how I edited the original texture:

Opened the original dark glass version.
Split the frame and glass into two layers.
Made the glass greyscale (and maybe tweaked brighness/contrast etc) for more use later.
Found this photo:
https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/b/bd/Snow_Glow.jpg
Scaled and pasted into image.
Copied to duplicate layer and blurred.
Changed transparency to finely control the blur/sharpness.
Duplicated the frame layer and made it darker to cancel out excess brightening from mtr 'addition' stage.

My idea was that contributed assets be packaged into periodic "Asset FMs" which is just laid out like an Ikea store so you can see what the assets look like, and then mappers can take what they like. I still think it's a good idea. You could label in the briefing that the FM is for mappers use only and release them through the normal in-game channel... It might even tempt a few players into trying mapping.

But should it be "one room one thing" map, or rather "all my things from 2017 exhibition"?

IMO it should be one map with everything fan contributed ever, being updated periodically (like once a year, 2018 edition, 2019 edition, etc) with each edition overriding the previous one... Then you only need to download one map for all the custom assets you need. Only subject to the reasonableness of the file size. If it'd be outrageously big, then I'd just keep adding all assets to one map until it's around 1 GB, then I'd start the process over with "Volume 2" until it's around that size, and so on.

What do you see when you turn out the light? I can't tell you but I know that it's mine.

Hey All,

I felt after playing Kingdom Come Deliverance lately, TDM needed some Stocks. So here you go. Hope you can use it. I was going to add a gallows too, but we have a good one of those.

I recently looked at the long chain model, and noticed the UV mapping caused lighting glitches, especially when scaled down and with the plain iron skin applied. I had a go at remapping it and things have improved, but it'll be a lot of bother to make each link match the original (they may have been positioned manually, or with an offset/rotate with some randomness). This version won't be a drop in replacement, but have a look and let me know what you think:

Giants and Ghosts

STRUNK-2020-01-11-21-35-04.jpg

Video

These are made with a custom material (camerascreentransparent) that is attached below. Put this file in the materials folder in your mission directory. Shows up in Other Materials .

It's actually a representation of what a camera "sees", on a transparent screen. The camera is set up in a black box and it "sees" an idle ai that is also placed in there.

Explore the .map file, attached below to see what's really going on.

Sky Assembly Multitool

Found this software, but I have not a clear idea if it could be useful:

https://didaduddel.itch.io/skytool

Quote

Create static Sky images (Cubemaps, equirectangular panoramas) from 2D images (Sprites), to be used in a variety of game engines and frameworks.

  • 3D + GUI desktop application (Linux, Windows)
  • Import 2D images (Sprites) and place them in the scene
  • Manipulate Sprites (size, roll angle, tint, opacity, ...)
  • Import background image or use solid color
  • Correct background image horizon and realign orientation
  • Adjust the Scene (ambient color, background, ...)
  • Save/load .json based project files
  • Export as cubemaps (6 square images) and equirectangular panorama (one 2:1 image)

Today I did a bit of an experiment! I wanted to see if I could get a dark radiant map into garry's mod, the quickest and dirtiest and not-workiest method is "OBJ2VMF" which converts .obj models into VMF files for hammer to then compile, the way its supposed to work is that you input a 6 sided cube and it turns it into a 6 brush room (not exactly ideal for this since that's not how TDM maps work, this honestly would have been a better idea with any thief game from 1 to the one from 2014 since they all work like that) so what ended up happening was that for every brush there was 6 brushes would be ontop of that almost inflating everything in the map like a balloon, map scale was also an issue that I couldn't fine-tune easily either so the scale is way off ontop of everything being inflated making the space inside the map very tiny! anyways heres the result of that and it looks almost nothing like footloose (plus I did add a bunch of random props in gmod for funsies and better visibility since the process involved replacing all the textures with dev ones that look very flat when in full-bright)

(streamable link will expire in 2 days but I'll have a spoken word version of this post along side the video and other fun images relating to the bsp inflation effect in the next "Goblin Secrets" video next month)
