OK, now playing for around 4 hours and end is still not in sight:)

 

I'm out of words, this mission is so far THE BEST FM that TDM has yeat to offer!!!

Very challenging right from the beggining . Loving the every aspect of it.

 

The story, the secrets, the new objectives (how many of them is in this FM in total?), the visual style, the architecture, the little details (like the key forgotten in one footlocker - that made ma laugh:D) etc.

 

One tiny negative, but's that's only in me - I hate spiders:D

 

Hope the others will have so much fun is I'm having right now.

 

Continue the good work, guys!

 

And I'm giving it 11/10;)

This is PURE AWESOMENESS, no doubt!

 

Little problem after played for 2 hours!

The game starts loading a quicksave but after some seconds it chrashes!

The door warnings can be ignored because they are all relating to chest lids, etc that AI do not use. I think in future FMs I should add not used by AI to these to see if it stops the warnings.

 

No, only 'errors' need be noted and here it is:

Sorry, this is a code error beyond my control. It can only be triggered by some special occurrence in the game so I don't think it is FM-specific necessarily. For instance, I have never seen it on either of my two PCs. I play stealthy and rarely kill or even KO so it might be AI-related I guess.

 

I hope you have an earlier gamesave.

 

I should caution all players in all Dark Mod FMs especially as they get bigger to make frequent named gamesaves so at least you do not lose too much if anything like this happens.

First need to say, this mission looks the most promising to me from what i experienced so far. I liked the way to get in, loved the fog, indoor graphic detail and layout...

but i had several crashes. System restarts without warning. Can´t realy complain as i have only 1GB RAM yet till the faulty one gets replaced, but i experienced no slowdown, no sign of problem, and it crashes completely random (i sneak through hallway...boom. Restart.) I suspect it´s graphic driver problem, as i experienced some crashes with other games lately... is there anyone with nVidia and 196.21 driver ? (Win7) Any similar probs ?

Guess i need to try find new driver, maybe even wait for my RAM to come... but then, i´ll enjoy it completely, no doubt.

 

i completely love FMs where i have every "gadget" from the start: rope arrows (!) moss, noisemaker, everything...

 

what else i can say? Looking forward for Thief´s Den 4 !

Epic mission!

 

Really, really, really enjoyed it. So much so that while I supposed to be helping beta-test that after a while I got too caught up in it to be of much use as a beta tester. :laugh:

 

But I did leave a final "report" over at Shalebridge (too spoilery for here by far). :ph34r:

I have most main objectives done and more loot than required for the 'mid' skill level... almost enough even more than required for the hardest level.

I have played for hours with no problems until:

 

I'm trying to tie up some loose ends. I have the heart, trying to decide whether to do the main objective or the alternate one. Exploring the rooms I missed earlier... I came across a room with a guy sitting in a chair complaining about how quiet it is (Andrew?). I knock him out and explore his room. I pick up a key to his wooden chest and the game crashed. I load it back up, go through the same motions except this time I look at the other end of the room... candlestick switch to move a banner on the wall... loot 2 items there... look at metal chest... start to look around the room for key, etc. and whammo!... crash again.

 

If this continues to happen, I'll launch from a terminal and post whatever errors get dumped there.

Hopefully this won't continue... I'll explore elsewhere before going back to that room again and see if any crashes occur.

Not sure about those 'WARNING's, but the segfault is hard to miss.

This happens when:

 

When I pick up Andrew's key for his wooden chest. I have done that 3 times now. The other crash I had on the other side of the room may have been due to another process of doom.x86 still lingering after the first crash.

I have a gut feeling I need that wooden key chest to gain access to the key for the metal chest on the other side of the room.

 

 

Besides Andrew's room, I still have to figure out about Sam... have the interrogation room key but don't find anything of interest in there. Surely I'm missing something there.

One of the last keys I picked up was called "Master Bedroom Key"... ran into my Andrew room crash while searching for the lock belonging to that key.

 

 

Turns out I can pick the lock on the wooden chest... but that doesn't avoid my problem... something else is going on

Ok... this crash is not specific to what I posted above.

Now, instead of picking up the key I had problems with, I ventured elsewhere. As I approached a door I knew was still locked, I pressed 'K' for key selection. I did not even press the frob button when I selected the first key. The game automatically started to cycle through my keys, trying each one in turn on the door. It took about 4 tries before the game crashed.

The same happens when:

 

I try the lockpicks on the metal chest in Andrew's room... it cycles trying each of the lockpick tools and then crashes

 

Looks like maybe something got corrupt in my saved game and now I'll have to start it all over :(:):(:)

 

I have never tried doing this... can keys be dropped from inventory, or do they stay there like the loot does?

It's a shame about the crashes - but at least everyone seems to be enjoying the FM so far. This is very encouraging because I did get to the stage where I thought much of it was not very good and a bit of support does help a lot!

 

Pranqster: Googled for 'signal caught: Segmentation fault' and wonder is that exclusive to Linux? I'll add it to tracker anyway. Perhaps you can keep your gamesave in case it is needed.

Can someone help please. When I try to load the mission I get the following warning. ' error filemaps/heart script line 138 set droppable unknown value ' I then have to press ctrl-alt-delete to close down DM. I have the latest updated version of DM . Any help appreciated. Thank you.

 

p.s would this be anything to do with the bit about secrets ? 'seta mvr_show_secrets 0' mentioned in the first post?

This is very nice :) it's quite big for those of us nostalgic for thief sized maps.

 

However, performance wise i just have one little problem...

I'm not getting any crashes but the frame rate is constantly sub par. It usually drops to around 15-25fps when i open a new door and goes back to around 30-40 in the same room if i'm lucky.

 

This is strange considering my system specs;

 

Geforce 8800 GT 512mb

 

2.39 GHz, 3gb of Ram

 

core2 quad cpu

 

service pack 3

 

etc...

 

I'm going to be upgrading pretty soon so it won't matter, but i just find it kind of frustrating that my computer can't take it, it's no brick, It ran games such as bioshock 2 and crysis fine.

 

I heard there was a way to speed up the way that doom 3 read it files, but last time i tried, i ended up deleting something vital Xs

Try updating Dark Mod again. That 'set droppable' code is in the update so if it is not working for you then maybe a file did not download properly. Let me know what happens.

 

 

Thank you for the advice. I first of all have downloaded the TDM update window. It downloaded six small updates but the mission still gives the same error message. The strange thing is all other missions play o.k without the error. I am now downloading DM 1.01 by torrent which is taking ages and will have to reload it from there.

      Well then, it's been about a week since I released my first FM and I must say that I was very pleasantly surprised by its reception. I had expected half as much interest in my short little FM as I received and even less when it came to positive feedback, but I am glad that the aspects of my mission that I put the most heart into were often the most appreciated. It was also delightful to read plenty of honest criticism and helpful feedback, as I've already been given plenty of useful pointers on improving my brushwork, level design, and gameplay difficulty.
      I've gotten back into the groove of chipping away at my reading and game list, as well as the endless FM catalogue here, but I may very well try my hand at the 15th anniversary contest should it materialize. That is assuming my eyes are ready for a few more months of Dark Radiant's bright interface while burning the midnight oil, of course!
