DarkRadiant 1.2.2 pre-release test

Recommended Posts

I need some sanity-testers for the upcoming 1.2.2 release - there have been a few code redesigns in this version which should be sanity-checked by somebody else than me.

What would be necessary is to download this pre1 release, check if it's possible to edit your maps (move lights, rotate models, save maps, load stuff, whatever) and post back if this is ok for a public release:

I just had the 32 bit crash for no apparent reason, I was resizing a patch and it may have crashed when I hit V I'm not sure. It just went into program not responding mode.

Win 7 32 bit

2gb ddr3

1.87core2duo

Mozilla firefox youtube was running in background.

It seems to be related to vertex manipulation. 7/8 crashes I've had have been in the vertex manipulation mode. I can't guarantee it will crash for you but try going in it and doing some work in it see if it crashes. (It just occurred to me, perhaps it's autosave?)

Anything special you're doing when it's crashing? When does it crash exactly? On clicking, on dragging, on hitting ESC,...?

I don't think the config is to be blamed, but to rule that out you could wipe your settings folder and start afresh, losing your keyboard shortcuts and custom colour schemes and the preferences.

Hm, I'm using the same 32-bit version as you here, and I'm desperately trying to make it crash - nothing! There must be something different in your map. I tried loading a few maps and wildly manipulating the brushes there but this didn't crash at all.

I uploaded my map along with my layering info. It's under jdude/tunnels.map. Basically I just spend an hour modifying the geometry or adding onto it everyday and then randomly while doing so it will crash during the manipulation of a brush or patch. I've been dabbling at the end of the map where the large hole is so if it's isolated to anywhere on the map it will be that general area.

No luck so far. The editor doesn't crash in this map. I even tried drag-selecting hundreds of vertices and manipulating them, no dice.

Here's a new pre-release build with some smaller issues fixed.

I'll also ask in the public forums about some volunteer testers.

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?

Looks like the "Reverse April Fools" releases were too well hidden. Darkfate still hasn't acknowledge all the new releases. Did you play any of the new April Fools missions?
