Crackling in some music?

I've noticed some of the music has crackling in it. For example some of the dd_ musics have crackling in them. I'm not sure if it's my Mobo's built in sound card thing or maybe I need a new and actual soundcard instead of using the mobo. I know it's not my speakers though because it's the same for both the speakers and my headphones. Has anyone else noticed this problem with some of the music?

PS: I can be more specific with sound file names in the future, I'm currently in the middle of moving and have no internet at my house for 7 more days :(

Fortunately the crackling only seemed to exist in the .ogg version of these files, so I was able to remove it by re-creating the .ogg files from the wavs in sound_src.

I have also adjusted the levels slightly so the ambient music doesn't become too overpowering, and improved the looping so that they don't fade to silence before beginning again.

Test PK4 available here:

If there are no objections to these changes I will commit the new versions onto SVN.

It's also possible to have an HTTP Link to our FTP files:

Oh yes, I saw you'd done that with some of the footstep PK4s but wasn't sure if that HTTP link was automatically available or whether you had to activate it each time.

Here is the music then:

Those dd_ tracks were all converted by me, using some freeware batch OGG conversion program. Obviously the encoder seems to have problems with that - mabye it's best to re-encode all of those files.

Ah, that may cast some light on where these artifacts are coming from. I will look into all of the dd_ ambients as you suggest.

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?

Looks like the "Reverse April Fools" releases were too well hidden. Darkfate still hasn't acknowledge all the new releases. Did you play any of the new April Fools missions?
