Maybe it's because the blackjack anims and the bow anims have the same names but are in different folders?

I didn't want to change the names from the grenade anim names that were being used incase it messed up the scripts or something else.

Yeah I updated the bow & arrow animations from oDDity's .zip, as of when that thread in Info&Announcements was posted. There was one weird thing with them, CVS kept wanting to recognize one of the broadhead textures as a text file, when it clearly was not, so I had to manually override it to upload binary.

Just saw your post there oDDity - the script and def files aren't really cleaned up, and some of the variable names are still using the same names as the original weapons - for example, arrow_FUSE should be arrow_tiredtime or something.

All I did was get it working, optimisation is the last step. But now that everyone seems to be happy with it and ready to tweak things, I'm more than happy to clean it up.

(I just wish CVS upload would work for me, it would make this whole bloody thing easier)

IF anything, it's too big, this isit in comparison wit the player arm. It's much bigger than the T1, 2 or 3 BJs. It's about the size of his forearm.

THe strike is also fast enough IMO, it's just a blur as it is. Anyone else think it needs speeded up?

I don't know at which resoltuion you play, maybe that is a factor as well. But it looks rather short to me. As I said, when I look at the screen it feels as if Thief holds a banana and the speed looks as if he is trying to caress instead of giving a whack. Maybe this is a bit overemphasized but similar enough. Don't know where you get that blur from. :)

And I never said it looks like rubbish.

Maybe the size is a perspective thing? To me it looks fine. I kind've wish we could see a little more of it when it's in the idle state though, ie, if the hand + BJ were raised up a bit more into the FOV, just to get more of that "holding bj" feeling. I know that's probably not realistic though as you wouldn't be holding it right in front of your face. :)

The speed on the down-swing seems fine. Perhaps the part that is a bit slow is the initial raising it up, which is why the speed from single-clicking to raise it and bring it down (without holding it up) may seem slow.

I found there was a bit of a lag when trying to put away or equip the blackjack...but for the first version it's great. Tweaking can be done a bit later. :)

So now we have every opinion from 'it's too big', to 'it's too small' to 'it's just the right size'

It's nice to have some clarity on the subject - at least now I know where I stand.

I think the model looks pretty sweet. Haven't tested the animation yet.

edit: Ok, I've had a chance to look at the animation. I think the swing speed is fine. The overall size of the blackjack looked ok to me. The bj model didn't appear to have any texture in mine...it was solid black. One thing that did look a little off is that the grip of the bj seemed quite thick (odd, because it doesn't look that way in the still shot above). It looked like the hand couldn't even grasp all the way around it, when normally a bj handle would be about the same thickness as a sword-grip. Other than that the size didn't both me. I definitely didn't think it was too large.

I could see Ish's point about wanting to see more of the bj in the idle state. I had the same feeling, although I know an argument can be made that we should block as little of the screen as possible.

Fixing up variable names is NOT cleaning up. This is rather important for maintenance, so please consider this with the same priority as the task itself before doing the next thing.

It's okay, I know. I had 2 years formal education in OOP. I'd never intend someone else to be able to make sense of what's in those files.

But I have been moving on to other things such as the rope arrow, because waiting a day or more for feedback on little things like arrow timing is a waste of time, when I could be doing other things.

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?

Looks like the "Reverse April Fools" releases were too well hidden. Darkfate still hasn't acknowledge all the new releases. Did you play any of the new April Fools missions?
