Problem with the settings

Odd, generally its caused by not having write permissions.

Please try :

  • Go to D:\games
  • Right click your doom3 folder -> properties
  • Untick "read only" (i.e a blank square not a light grey/black tick)
  • It should ask you about subdirectories and perhaps hidden files - yes to everything.

Is Dark Mod storing settings other than video?

Which video settings are you trying to change? If screen resolution then is it defaulting to 640 x 480? Try some other values. Perhaps doom3 is refusing your res even if your monitor supports it. Try 1024 x 768 to prove the theory. If so you might have to compromise.

I'm trying to change the screen but it defaults back to 640 x 480, I have tried changing the values to something else but it goes back to 640 x 480.

I have noticed now that it doesn't change other settings too.

Have you tried making sure it's not read-only? (see my post above)

Someone else had the same issue which was resolved by that.

OK this is weird ( and annoying ):

- I did as you said and checked if it worked, it didn't work.

- I opened the doom file properties (just like how you explained it to me) and I saw that it remained as a read-only,I tried to untick the read-only box several times ,pressed 'apply' then 'OK' in the properties window, nothing changes it remains as a read-only.

Ok that sounds fine.

Can you go to D:\Doom3\darkmod and:

  • Make sure that "DoomConfig.cfg" is not read-only
  • Delete "currentfm.txt"

Then try start TDM and change your settings.

If that doesnt work, did you have Doom3 installed and perhaps other mods before TDM?

So you have deleted currentfm.txt so no FM is currently installed? You are changing Doomconfig.cfg in the darkmod folder, not the one in base nor any of those in Dark Mod game folders but just the one in the darkmod folder and ALL settings will not remain changed? And you are definitely resaving Doomconfig.cfg and you can see it has a new time if you look in Explorer and you can reload it and see your changes? So if you change a key bind or a gamma setting or any setting at all then when you run Dark Mod those new changes do not show in the menu settings? Sounds impossible frankly. So you then re-open Doomconfig.cfg and it is changed back to the old key setting, gamma setting?

seta image_anisotropy "16"

seta r_customHeight "1050"

seta r_customWidth "1680"

seta r_fullscreen "1"

seta r_mode "-1"

seta r_multiSamples "4"

You can figure them out from that, but its still a strange problem.

What version of Windows are you running? Are you using an administrator account? Do you have an Antivirus or any other security software installed? if so please name them.

Can you try going into tdm, use ctrl+alt+` (normal console key + ctrl + alt) to open the console, then "writeConfig DoomConfig" without quotes. Does that give an error message?

I set settings through DoomConfig as you said but when I ran it the game had a small screen on the bottom left and the rest of the screen was really stretched and blurry.

When I wrote "writeConfig DoomConfig" the console said it was an unknown command.I shut down the game and ran it again but I got this error:

--------- Game Map Shutdown ----------

--------------------------------------

********************

ERROR: Error: file script/tdm_events.script, line 41: Unknown event 'frobHilight'

I'm using windows 7, I have Avire AntiVir as an Antivirus

Hi,

The problem is when I try to change the settings of the game (video) they dont change, even if I restart the game, I read the FAQ but couldnt find the answer.

I have the same problem with doom.

(BTW I'm new to the forum wink.gif)

I had this same problem when i first started running TDM, and didn't even realize it was still at low res (d'oh! blush.gif ) until i started saving screenshots and they were all low res.

What worked for me was changing the height/width ratio. Try switching back and forth from 16:9, 4:3 and the other one. I believe the only one that works properly with my setup is 4:3

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?

Looks like the "Reverse April Fools" releases were too well hidden. Darkfate still hasn't acknowledge all the new releases. Did you play any of the new April Fools missions?
