Wanna Candlestick?

I figured I'd go ahead and start doing some props. Already have a bed and a chair done with patches in Radiant (which I'm calling the Rgun props since they look alot like his stuff), and now I've started doing some stuff in Max.

And this is it. It's the first time I've used Max in almost a year and a half, so I'm still a little rusty. I know the meshsmooth is a little overkill, but comeon...I wanted it to look cool for everybody. ;)

As far as models go it's simple as all getout. But it'll look fine ingame, which is what counts. Now I just need to skin it...

Great job Ren. This is exactly the kind of thing I was talking about in IRC today. Did you do all these today?

Hey, while I'm thinking about it, when we start getting to the point of needing paintings and tapestries, I'll gladly donate some art to the cause so we don't have to rely on clipart or anything.

Yeah, they sat a tiny bit too low, but that's no longer a problem. The headless sitting dude will help you get a sense of scale...it's a fairly large room.

Springheel: I was actually considering asking you if I could put some of your pics ingame a few days ago, but it kinda slipped my mind and got lost in the shuffle. I'm still gonna use some clipart, there's a few landscapes pics I like too much to not use, but I'll definately throw in anything you send my way.

As for the props...yeah, I've been working on em for the past 4 hours or so. I started a little after everyone signed off of IRC.

Wow, I'm impressed with what you've been able to do. Maybe it WON'T take half a year just for the models. :) Hey, where did that headless guy come from in the pic?

When you rightclick on the grid he'll be under the char subset...char_marine_asian_chair1. Most of the models have swappable heads, and since I haven't figured out how to plant one on yet I had to leave him headless.

And it'll still take awhile to do all the props, everything you're seeing here is fairly simple stuff. I won't be nearly as quick once I start getting into really high detailed victorian furniture

The jar has reduced Fingernail to tears!

Okay, going serious for a second. The next thing I'm gonna try for is a good light fixture, somewhat similar to what's already in my map but far more detailed. Would you say that 250-300 triangles is good target to aim for?

That's what I'm gonna do next, BT.

Finger: Considering that my props are quite a bit simpler than a full blown character model, a good meshsmooth should be all I need to do to get a well rounded normalmap.

Just keep in mind that this isn't my area of expertise, so beyond a few lights here and there, most of it will be small objects that are best used as throwaway details.

I don't remember that model being in the game...are there models in the editor that weren't used? Anything that we can use? Should we be designing our models so that they have swappable heads?

should schmould.

You need to add little details like trails of wax and metal/wood carving on the stick itself.

I've already started adding wax, but wood trimming is turning out to be a bit difficult for me since I have trouble adding exact details to a single mesh.

I can do plenty of carvings and little details with splines, but adding them on top of an already existing model is a fairly sloppy way of doing things.

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?

Looks like the "Reverse April Fools" releases were too well hidden. Darkfate still hasn't acknowledge all the new releases. Did you play any of the new April Fools missions?
