Hello !

I've just started to play TDM on ubuntu 10.04, but I have a problem : the sound come later than the things who make that sound.

And the duration between the sound and the picture is bigger and bigger.

What can I do ?

EAX is not suported by my plateform.

I also think it is a problem with ALSA. But turning to sereo in the config panel don't change the problem

Here are all the consol messages about the sound:

in the initialisation :

dlopen(libasound.so.2)

asoundlib version: 1.0.22

Alsa is available

------ Alsa Sound Initialization -----

opened Alsa PCM device default for playback

device buffer size: 5461 frames ( 65532 bytes )

allocated a mix buffer of 49152 bytes

Some messages occure when I toggle surround :

Shutting down sound hardware

----------- Alsa Shutdown ------------

close pcm

dlclose

--------------------------------------

dlopen(libasound.so.2)

asoundlib version: 1.0.22

Alsa is available

I should've guessed that EAX would not be available in Linux but Creative provided the Open Source driver for their Audigy and below products so I thought that they might've included it.

I recall that there has been some fireworks about the Pulse Audio system and it's affect on the stability of Sound API interfaces in general. I believe there are some topics in the Ubuntu forums about removing Pulse but I don't know if this is relevant for newer releases??? (I think that the current claim is that Pulse Audio is now 99% fixed???)

I need to setup a Linux partition again and fiddle around (I'm getting rusty).

Yep, I have this problem too. The easiest solution is to set s_driver to oss, instead of best. Be aware though that this is a timewarp, and will take you back to 1996, where only one program can play sound at a time. You won't be able to hear instant messages or listen to music while the game is playing, because oss captures the sound card in the spirit of Windows 95.

Would it be possible to somehow reduce the buffer size?

device buffer size: 5461 frames ( 65532 bytes )

I have this instead:

dlopen(libasound.so.2)
asoundlib version: 1.0.20
Alsa is available
------ Alsa Sound Initialization -----
opened Alsa PCM device default for playback
device buffer size: 5644 frames ( 22576 bytes )
allocated a mix buffer of 16384 bytes

The number of frames is the same, so my hunch is that won't help, but who knows?

Edit: Some more info:

Try this:

+set s_driver oss

as a commandline argument to tdmlauncher (and hence doom3).

Also, see if you have PulseAudio, this was said to cause the lagging. Although I wouldn't disable it because thie procedure sounds risky:

I have the same problem, I opened a bug in tracker:

http://bugs.angua.at/view.php?id=2323

The strange thing is that with the 1.01 vers. , this problem was not present.

A temporary workaround that i use, it's to switch on/off from the sound menu "surround sound", to resume the sound correctly in game.

The problem is present only when in menu, not in the game.

Finally got my PC back from the shop after my SSD got corrupted a week ago and damaged my motherboard. Scary stuff, but thank goodness it happened right after two months of FM development instead of wiping all my work before I could release it. New SSD, repaired Motherboard and BIOS, and we're ready to start working on my second FM with some added version control in the cloud just to be safe!

I've updated the articles for your FMs and your author category at the wiki. Your newer nickname (DeTeEff) now comes first, and the one in parentheses is your older nickname (Fieldmedic). Just to avoid confusing people who played your FMs years ago and remember your older nickname. I've added a wiki article for your latest FM, Who Watches the Watcher?, as part of my current updating efforts. Unless I overlooked something, you have five different FMs so far.

I've finally managed to log in to The Dark Mod Wiki. I'm back in the saddle and before the holidays start in full, I'll be adding a few new FM articles and doing other updates. Written in Stone is already done.
