entities falling through patches

Has anyone noticed that if you bump into or walk over a movable atdm:* entity (bucket, shovel, coin purse, etc.) sitting on a patch, there's a good chance it will fall through the patch?

This might have something to do with slightly embedding an item into a patch, like a bucket sitting on a dirt patch and you embed it slightly for realism.

It doesn't matter if the entity's origin is above or below the patch.

That's a common phenomenon with the physics - not usually a good idea to embed like that. If you must, you might consider some little brush right below the thing to keep it held up, or something like that

Exactly. If the collision mesh clips into any geometry, it will fall right through.

When mapping, I set up all my movables to float a few inches off of it's surface. When the mission is starting, one of the cycles Doom 3 does before letting you play is it turns on physics, and everything drops.

@Komag/MD: There is also an issue with some models in that there origin are set either right at the base of said model or worse its below. This is causing models like jars and health potions to drop through shelves and the like.

The origin doesn't matter. It's the boundary of the collision mesh that is significant. If that clips into something, then it can't collide with it. The solution is to place the entity higher than it needs to be. Movable entities will drop down until they land on a surface on game start.

If you want to embed a bucket in the ground just use a model, not an entity.

(and if you give it a skin that replaces 'collision' with 'no draw' it will have better collision for things like dropping item into it, etc...)

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?

Looks like the "Reverse April Fools" releases were too well hidden. Darkfate still hasn't acknowledge all the new releases. Did you play any of the new April Fools missions?
