Take a look at this beauty:

(from CGTextures)

Come the time of peril, did the ground gape, and did the dead rest unquiet 'gainst us. Our bands of iron and hammers of stone prevailed not, and some did doubt the Builder's plan. But the seals held strong, and the few did triumph, and the doubters were lain into the foundations of the new sanctum. -- Collected letters of the Smith-in-Exile, Civitas Approved

I have a hunch it is a movie prop or something from a theme park... still awe-inspiring, though. :)

Not nec. - we got castles/doors/etc like that around here. Some of them have been here for thousands of years (the wood has been replaced, tho we do have a table plate that is at least a couple hundred years old that survived because someone used the table as a door inside a house :D

That one is about 50km from me:

(It is one of the few that were not destroyed by the french in in the 17th)

Here is an overview of the area with themost improtant castles and ruins:

Then there are of course the old city centers. In the city where I live, the church is from 1230 or so. I literally walk five minutes and stand in a small TDM mission-area :)

You should visit some time :)

Saw this on the front page of Reddit - in my mind I imagine loads of these as islands crumbling in the middle of Bridgports waterways:

Artisticaly it is not that great but it sure scares you a bit when you first glimpse it.

And it is not just a cheap scare.

In the Resident evil mansion this is the room where the tiger statue was, now it is the devil room.

Cool. I'm getting inspired by the idea of doing the basic geometry and portaling first and then overlaying it with complex brushes, patches, and even model-geometry so you can get the best of both worlds. If you have the overlay crossing and growing into walls organically to hide the seams, I think you could get away with quite a bit even with the constraints.

What do you see when you turn out the light? I can't tell you but I know that it's mine.

If the seams are func_statics then you can just align the textures to the world brushes, no visible seams at all.

I did that portalling map awhile back using that technique. Very simple base terrain, then overlay details. There's a tut on the wiki to go with it.

That place looks awesome for a tdm mission!, got more info on that building in the picture..?

Sry, I've looked at some 'abandoned places' threads but in vain.

edit: another shot but still nameless.

Wow, new city over the lost city. It looks even more odd than I thought.

About technical side, there is still hard to avoid open spaces, it will probably looks like 'rooms' filled with 'opened' building.

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?

Looks like the "Reverse April Fools" releases were too well hidden. Darkfate still hasn't acknowledge all the new releases. Did you play any of the new April Fools missions?
