Just wow -

Whoa that's amazing work. I can see the beginnings of an adventure there of tiny little peoeple. That has come from a mind

that had a deep desire for reality in level design. It's exquisite work. Thanks BD

Last Sunday I took a climbing-tour of the highest belltower in my village, Deventer in the Netherlands.

And during the climb I watched a nice carillon in action.

To me, the sounds it makes, gives me old city feeling.

Love to see/hear this in a FM.

(please notice me, when youre doing this)

Here some videos of it, for some inspiration.

People despise Peter Molyneux for what came out of the Fable series, but the story and hardships behind Black & White in a 3 page article intrigued me.

Page 3 is the best because they explain how they solved the endless avalanche of bug fixing, compiling and release:

"I really perceive that vanity about which most men merely prate — the vanity of the human or temporal life. I live continually in a reverie of the future. I have no faith in human perfectibility. I think that human exertion will have no appreciable effect upon humanity. Man is now only more active — not more happy — nor more wise, than he was 6000 years ago. The result will never vary — and to suppose that it will, is to suppose that the foregone man has lived in vain — that the foregone time is but the rudiment of the future — that the myriads who have perished have not been upon equal footing with ourselves — nor are we with our posterity. I cannot agree to lose sight of man the individual, in man the mass."...

- 2 July 1844 letter to James Russell Lowell from Edgar Allan Poe.

Another bit of period inspiration, for building spaces such as living quarters, kitchens, etc:

http://www.townsends.us/blog/search/

Just click the filters to the left - in our case, the likes of "16th century" and "17th century", or the various cooking and crafts topics - and you'll get a selection of brief articles with period imagery of various mundane scenes. Cooking, weaving, making gunpowder, what the inside of a workshop, kitchen, mill or inn look like, etc.

I feel documentaries and blogs about period everyday living are a real godsend when one wants to find inspiration for living spaces that both looks believable, and isn't visually generic.

Two somewhat recent movies that might possibly spawn some inspiration.

The Limehouse Golem takes place in Victorian England in the community of East London (Limehouse). It's a mystery/horror film. A generally okay movie with lots of period architecture, dreariness, and a particularly fine looking library.

Trailer: https://youtu.be/P8EJAyk01kk

Lady Macbeth takes place in the year 1865 in rural England. Actually a pretty good movie with a nice estate house, lots of creepy scenery/atmosphere, in a very fine countryside setting.

Not source of inspiration per se, but free source of precious knowledge. It's amazing how back in the day this was reserved only to industry specialists. Now it's open to everyone. There's even a full character rigging tutorial.

You know I think I am gonna start doing cheap flights to Europe so I can seen places like this..

Between now and March I am gonna try and visit as many medieval places as possible! I have asked some friends if they would like to come along, as seeing places is always better with friends.

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?

Looks like the "Reverse April Fools" releases were too well hidden. Darkfate still hasn't acknowledge all the new releases. Did you play any of the new April Fools missions?
