That character hanging from the pole up there, how would you do that with a ragdoll? Is it possible to hang them? What about the algerian hook torture? Is that possible? (butchers hook through one side, and out the other and hung face up). Could be interesting drama to add to a level.

There has been a couple of threads regarding this topic. Look at these examples:

This would be a cool addition to any forest map.

Stonehenge?

Uh ... wouldn't that kind of be ... derivative?

You may as well have Big Ben or the Eiffel Tower.

The idea of big stone monoliths standing around would be cool though, if they were arranged a little differently than Stonehenge's very characteristic style.

Of course they you wouldn't do stone henge haha. That'd be silly. However a creative arrangement of 2 or 3 monoliths could add theatre to a forest scene.

Here's a great video with awesome inspiration through out.

Glad you've found those manor houses interesting, guys. If I find any other uniquely looking ones, I'll post them for sure. :)

Just remembered: "The Name of the Rose" (some of you might have read it, or at least seen the film starring Sean Connery and Christian Slater) also had the floor plan of the abbey it takes place, which is a good inspiration for an abbey based mission

I was in fact pondering about setting my planned abbey-focused FM in a place like that. I'll probably give it a different ground plan, though, as it's meant to be down in the lowlands, instead of up in the mountains. It wouldn't make sense for it to be relatively constrained in terms of space, but I still plan to give it token fortifications (it's better at maintaining the "edges of the world" illussion anyway).

Funnily enough, a few years ago, I also theorised over at TTLG that the ground plan of the library building from The Name of the Rose's abbey was an inspiration to the TDS devs when they made the Keeper Library mission. Replay it if you want to, you'll notice it has the same basic octagonal layout. Some other guy also noted parallels between NotR and TDP a few years before me, though not ones pertaining to architecture.

Yeah, I also had to think about Name of the Rose, when I saw the library in TDS. However, I am not sure how original the idea for the library is and if it could be coincidene.

Regarding the abbey: Even if you decide on a layout that is more crammed than the original, it is a good resource for facilities that you might find in an abbey (even if you decide to leave a couple of them and add others instead).

Name of the Rose was the primary inspiration for TDP, the original. Somewhere is a clone of LGS's site for the game where they explained it in the game dev blog. It was also the inspiration for a level that made it into TG, the Mage Towers maybe (I never played TG that far).

Berlin, 1896

Come the time of peril, did the ground gape, and did the dead rest unquiet 'gainst us. Our bands of iron and hammers of stone prevailed not, and some did doubt the Builder's plan. But the seals held strong, and the few did triumph, and the doubters were lain into the foundations of the new sanctum. -- Collected letters of the Smith-in-Exile, Civitas Approved

I fairly doubt that the people back in the day assumed that someday someone would find those kinds of images beautyful and inspiring :D

Obsttorte: Fair point! I got a whole lot of my ideas from pictures of Victorian slums, not to mention London: A Pilgrimage, and it is precisely because of their sociological angle. :) This is an image where the architecture could be 100% translated to TDM. It would even visportal well.

ERH+: Yup; look at the kid to the left in the second carriage. The little miscreant moved his head!

http://www.ancient-origins.net/ancient-places-europe/rats-exploding-toilet-seats-and-demons-deep-hazards-roman-sewers-004611

"every night a giant octopus swam into the sewer from the sea and proceeded up through the house drain in the toilet to eat all the pickled fish stored in his well-stocked pantry."

"public latrines were notorious for terrifying customers when flames exploded from their seat openings. These were caused by gas explosions of hydrogen sulphide (H2S) and methane (CH4) that were rank as well as frightening."

"there was the perceived threat of demons that the Romans believed inhabited these black holes leading to the mysterious underbelly of the city. One late Roman writer tells a particularly exciting story about such a demon. A certain Dexianos was sitting on the privy in the middle of the night, the text tells us, when a demon raised itself in front of him with savage ferocity. (...) We don’t tend to put religious shrines in our toilets, but we find them again and again in both public and private toilets in the Roman world." I wonder if inhaling these fumes could cause hallucinations.

They even had sewer goddess: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shrine_of_Venus_Cloacina

Explosions, demons, octopuses... sound like material for a movie to me!

Be honest: Who of you have actually finished Cuphead? This game is freaking tough! It might even be harder than Sekiro. Dark Souls is a joke in comparison to Cuphead! :-D

Please, can we finally group the missions by year in the game menu?

I vaguely recall someone recently complained about two-sided materials (curtains?) not getting lighting from both sides
I just found a piece of code that's supposed to do just that
      Where was that discussed? (@nbohr1more?)

I still play classic Doom (albeit with user-made mods and maps rather than the original campaign) on a regular basis. A game from the early 90's which has still got a healthy following in 2022. Pretty amazing.

I'm beginning to understand why people who aren't into social clubbing "don't last long" on this project, and why it's so full of holes. When moderators are siding with bullies, by closing down threads that they derail, then I start to wonder if I should support the platform to begin with.
I'm sure that the core development is solid, but when you're constantly tone policed and bullied, and moderators are playing into it too, then the project will just drive away talent, and replace it with socialites instead. ...and without talent, you only end up with a small skeleton crew trying to do everything themselves.
...so Dragofer and Airship Ballet, and all you other socialites, you win. From now on I'll just keep to myself. You'll never be able to do my work, but at least you'll be happy together, and that's what matters to you.

      Update
Actually, I have to revise my statement:
I actually messaged greebo - the top dog, I gather - about nbohr1more's outburst of insanity below, and since I haven't even heard back from him, I just have to assume that there's not a single core programmer here, who's not backing nbohr's threats. ...and that's bad.
...so if you're a newbie reading this, or an honest soul like ZergRush, then just slowly back out of these forums, run, and don't look back. This is nothing more than a cult posing as a game development project, using Thief and IDTech4 to sucker hopefuls in, to do work for them, while trying to cajole them into something going on behind the scenes, which apparently - according to nbohr - is something that should be hidden from the state. These people aren't programmers - they don't even understand things like how to fix the simplest bugs. All they have, is an engine, and an IP, and some sort of fascist social cult. There was some other project I saw being made in the Unreal Engine. Try joining that project. ...or start a project of your own. Anything but this asylum.
Hopefully that was "divisive" enough for a final post, because at this point I really want people to leave this place. This project is, on a management level, just awful garbage, run by garbage people, apparently from the top down, and I'm just glad that they have a garbage place to stay, together, and hopefully forever.
