Light gem decorations get squashed when crouching.

1.01: The wings on either side of the gem are a crouch indicator. When you are crouched, the wings 'crouch' down as well.

It's designed (I think) for situations when you're not 100% sure whether you're still crouching or not (after mantling onto something, after climbing a rope or ladder, or just if you don't remember whether you undid it), and you're not exactly in a great place to risk standing up to verify it, there's a subtle visual sign that you're crouching. It looks strange at first, but you get used to it and it's useful occasionally.

What do you see when you turn out the light? I can't tell you but I know that it's mine.

When standing:

When crouching:

That's a brilliant indicator, really good idea.

In good ol' thief it was difficult to know what you stance is. With those compressing wings the player always knows if moving around causes more noise.

Hey cool, when are guys going to release this feature? I always wanted this, but always forgot to ask...

Just kidding, now that was one of the things I noticed at first. And it´s really helpful because sometimes in Thief you really couldn´t tell if you´re crouched or not because you have to crouch so often or you just do it so often.

But now I can´t benefit from it because I play without the lightgem. (So again, I´m constantly pushing the crouch-button...) Couldn´t you guys create some apparatus that attaches those wings on the sides of my TV? It could be holographic, though...

There's another feature maybe some of you don't know for which *this* feature is essential. You can switch into crouch mode while on a ladder or rope so when you get off you are in that mode (also underwater where it gives neutral buoyancy.) Or indeed, if you just forget which mode you are in in those situations. There is no other way to tell if you are in crouch mode on a rope or ladder because technically you are not crouched but only in a 'pre-crouched' mode.

And before anyone suggests we should actually really crouch on ladders and ropes, this was extensively discussed internally at the time and there are problems such as clipping into a ceiling and do you crouch 'down' or do you pull your legs 'up'.

Hmm, but if you get already crouched on a rope or ladder, you can stand up!

Oh, and you should´ve mentioned a very cool feature(but already mentioned in PlayerTips-thread): While on rope/ladder: press and hold crouch-key to slide down. I´m not sure, but I think you can even interrupt the slide down! If you´re not crouched while doing this, you´re of course crouched when reaching the ground, so all this is silent. But make sure you ARE crouched before sliding down, or you´ll make a lot of noise upon reaching ground.

Also: Make sure you don´t slide from too much a height, or you´ll hurt yourself!

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?

Looks like the "Reverse April Fools" releases were too well hidden. Darkfate still hasn't acknowledge all the new releases. Did you play any of the new April Fools missions?
