Several weeks have passed and there is still no sign of a lightgem model coming into my direction. Any chances that this is resolved anytime soon? It's not as if this is such a hard thong to model. Maybe it's time to create another model? Which version would that be? Five? Or six? I start to loose track of them already ...

I never liked the idea of a 3d model with a compass from the start. I like the old T1/2/3 oval bitmap style. We could have had that in the game 2 months ago, and GIMG or someone could have done it, it doesn't even require a 3d app.

As far as I've been made aware, the lightgem (at least with the compass attached) is finished, and even has the bitmap pictures for the gem itself. The next step was to send it to BlackThief for texturing.

TRYOT, BT? Care to clue us in on where we are in that process?

ehm, tyrot's lightgem IS textured - so why should he send it to me for texturing?

I thought there was discussion of roughing it up a bit to look more weathered? Perhaps I'm way off. Who has the finished copy of it then? I have an untextured copy that was all in one piece. I've split it into two separate models though.

Tyrot told me that you were taking care of the skinning BT. I don't know...obviously some miscommunication somewhere. Nobody is to blame. :)

Here they are for download.

Gem

Compass

If the textured version is nowhere to be found, then we just need to get these dressed up and we're off to the races.

If somebody could kindly take these models and make the 16 .tga's from this angle all would be well. The gem should look fairly close to what Tyrot had in the photos, perhaps a few cracks in it would look nice?

Gem compass combo

Gem alone...same angle

We also need the compass skinned.

I would suggest using these two images to guage the max darkness and brightness of the gem. These are taken directly from Thief 3 and should allow for a smooth progression in the animation over 16 images.

I would do this myself to get the work out of the way, but I do not know how...nor could I do a very good job. :) I leave that to the pros.

:( This isn't happening guys. Sorry. I just don't have the time to learn this. I seriously have to study for my exams, otherwise I'll continue to be unemployed. Would one of the kind, talented modelers/texture artists step forward and complete this final task at the beginning of the week following the guidelines I've set above? I'll owe whoever does it an Ale.

I always thought of myself as a lazy bastard, but I'm beginning to think that's not really an accurate description any more <_<

You should become a lead, then you could boss around everybody else without doing anything. ;)

EDIT by Sparhawk: UPS! I seemd to accidently edited Oddities posting, because the above is from me and not from Oddity. Sorry!

ok ok guys I'm gonna texture this. but I've no experience in rendering - so I'll need a helping hand for that.

NH or Tyrot can you please send me the texture of the gem? I quite like it and why reinvent the wheel ? ;)

Thanks BlackThief, I truly appreciate it. :)

I know it probably sounds like I have a lot of time on my hands, being unemployed and all, but I seriously don't at the moment. After having worked in a call center for 3 years, where routine was where it's at, my ability to retain information is totally shot. It's disgusting. It's slowly coming back, but I can't believe that three years in a job like that ruined my memory so effectively. It has made studying for these exams a longer process than it should have been.

Truly appreciated BT. It will be great to get this ingame at long last. :)

oh and another question - the compass will be a 3dmodel, right ? I guess this will be a problem - the model has more than 4400 faces!!!

yeah I guess that's definitely needed, 4400 faces is quite a lot. and most of the detail can easily be done with a normalmap.

so I'll first start on the lightgem without the compass - that's easier anyway, since I can do most of the stuff in PS.

I did some quick tests, but for some reason my lightgem-bitmap gets always strechted ingame. do I have to change the size of the lightgem in the code somehow?

I think that's because of the window currently housing the lightgem in the hud, probably needs to be changed somehow in the editor...or would it be in the files somewhere? Ergh. I'm not certain.

(I just write this down, because it's on my mind)
I think it's time somebody makes the city hub fm 😉
Technically I see 2 possible ways.
      1. One is where everything takes place inside one mission and you teleport to different enclosed areas of the map to do subquests.
      2. Another is a campaign style mission. You start inside the cityhub. When you do a subquest, the mission ends, but the next mission you load the specific quest-map. This questmap you load is depended on what subquest you choose to start inside the map. Afterwards you load the 3th mission in the campaign which will be the cityhub map again, but via persistant info, changes some things inside the map (for example, you can't do the same subquest twice) and you have more gold maybe, etc, etc. So if the cityhub has 5 subquest missions that can be played in any order, the total amount of missions in the campaign would be 10, but the amount of map files 6. Because if you start in the cityhub map, after each subquest mission, you return to the cityhub map again, except for the last mission. When you make missions later you can add them to the cityhub again and make it bigger.
(This seems all possible with changes made in TDM 2.13 , but I'm not 100% sure. It's at least an interesting project to work on)

I started using Unexpected Keyboard for Android phone.
It's pretty cool, because it has an actual Ctrl key, which you can use to do cut, copy and paste actions via x, c and v. pretty handy in the forums, to move quoted text around for example.

Dammit there are too many missions available now. That's what I get for being away for so long. Such a first-world problem.

The best thing about not mapping more than like every other year is the awesome feeling to see how far TDM has gotten in all appartments. I can just create some parallaxing cobblestones and walk to and fro and just let the jaw drop
