A huge Thank You to everyone who voted for the mod, we made it into the Top 100. Phase Two of voting has started and you need to vote again for the The Dark Mod to progress to the finals. You can find the voting station here: http://www.moddb.com/events/2010-mod-of-the-year-awards/top100

Click on Doom III:

Then click on Vote

And that's it.

I know we didn't win last year, but let's get a good effort started right away. Head on over to http://www.moddb.com/mods/the-dark-mod , log into your account there and vote for TDM!

EDIT: Don't forget you need to register an account with moddb.com. You can vote as a Guest but those votes DO NOT COUNT UNLESS THERE IS A TIE!

EDIT 2: From "THE RULES"

The top 100 is determined by "quality" of vote. For example a vote from a long time member is worth more than a new members vote which is again worth more than a guests vote.

I always assumed I'd taste like boot leather.

The decision about hosting all files at Moddb is clear as mud  I agree that we should do it. If they are foolish enough to provide all that content hosting for free then why not?

(Queue Moddb's upcoming devolution into a poor-man's me-too Steam platform "Desura" ...don't mind my pessimism... ).

We just need enough face time for a bunch of mod coders. animators, etc, to stumble into our mod and become curious about joining... If they are serious, they will seek out the internal site. They need to know we exist first and foremost.

Please visit TDM's IndieDB site and help promote the mod:

(Yeah, shameless promotion... but traffic is traffic folks...)

I usually do not register to any sites I do not visit very actively. I registered to moddb only to vote for TDM.

Dear community, it is time to promote TDM.

Ähem, you don´t need to register. I just voted unregistered. It remembers your IP it seems, that opens room for cheating if you have the tools...

Yeah it says you can vote unregistered, but those votes are only counted in case of ties. You need to be registered to be able to cast votes that really count.

The search is on to find the hottest mod of 2010, so if you believe this is the one - vote for it. Everybody can vote all they want, however, guest votes only count in the event of a tie.

Their site says that votes from long-time members have more weight than votes from just-registered, and these have more than non-members votes.

Plus, if they see that 100000 guests voted for TDM, they probably just throw us out.

(Technically, that means the longer our accounts live, the better are our chances of winning. Unfortunately, I don't think they have a formula like "1 + number_of_months_registered = voting points" or so :)

I logged into my account (which I created last year) and voted. Let's hope we have a good showing this year. :)

Come the time of peril, did the ground gape, and did the dead rest unquiet 'gainst us. Our bands of iron and hammers of stone prevailed not, and some did doubt the Builder's plan. But the seals held strong, and the few did triumph, and the doubters were lain into the foundations of the new sanctum. -- Collected letters of the Smith-in-Exile, Civitas Approved

Great video! Though I think that if we really want to win we should make a serious trailer, too. I don't have any video editing skills so I can't do it, though.

I agree there needs to be a serious trailer, and this one is outdated (advertises TDM 1.0)

However.... I think happy friar needs to be contacted on D3W and be put to the challenge to create a new video we can upload directly to moddb. Maybe the humor is campy and crude, complete with oldschool infomercial techniques, but I can't stop laughing. I approve of this advertisement style wholeheartedly.

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?

Looks like the "Reverse April Fools" releases were too well hidden. Darkfate still hasn't acknowledge all the new releases. Did you play any of the new April Fools missions?
