Or did the game later have some mods or patches which improved the game drastically? I still have it lying around, so maybe it deserves another go...

Stalker 1 plain, with no mods, looked horrible, the huge weapon models alone kept me away and thats why it was a year or two later that i bought it. I used the Oblivion Lost mod, which was a 700mb mod filled with fixes, new [smaller] weapon models with Darius6's sound mod, graphical tweaks (thats an understatment), textures, something called the float 32 mod, which raised the framerate, translation fixes, a harsher economy, Ai Life changes, pitch black nights and on and on...

@MoroseTroll: Well, 1 out of 3 aint bad....

 

 

@7UpMan: Stalker Complete wasn't out yet when i played. I didn't like some of the menu changes and other things, but overall, its well done. I used Oblivion Lost, with its default graphical changes, not the "weather overhauled" addition, which looked nice, but the contrast was so high, the shadows were pitch black on my monitor.

not really. Already I think this topic has at least spawned ideas about compressed normals, and catalyst AI issues. Even if it doesn't work out, its definitely a step in the right direction. Other people expressed ideas for what they'd like to see changed or improved as well. Maybe there's a language barrier and some TDM vs FM issues, but I think overall very constructive.

And for others, don't listen to those dorks from that Russian fan page. Never saw such crazy people. Well, i can say that their web page is good, but that's the only thing i can prise. They didn't create a single mission for dark mod, but still judge it. And this prick, shadowhide, he created some block crappy fm and now dispute on atmosphere and etc in darkmod, what a jerk?

I don't want to upset you, but that was pure coincidence . I have told about 3Dc on TTLG about year and half ago, but no one have heard me. As for our 'Russian Problem': They tend to see TDM with all existing FM´s (LongShad, how many TDM-FM´s did you play, btw?) as a whole and projecting criticism meant for the FM to the Mod itself, I guess that was what Tels didn´t liked. So I suggest to look into the mission-threads, maybe that helps to get a better 'feel' of the missions and how they are to play and maybe, only maybe, you start seeing the glory of what can be possible and is already done here...

I guess you're underestimating the problem. While there are some invaluable and very productive people at Darkfate, namely Zontik, MoroseTroll and Clearing, the rest such as Shadowhide or our new old friend Alex-xxx are just some insane kids, completely ignorant and uneducated, having trouble writing in their native language (let alone English), masturbating, and doing absolutely nothing apart from talking shit about everything. This kind of dorks is not exclusive to Darkfate, of course, but what amazes me is that there are just way too much of them over there. A forum about such an intelligent game should've attracted some more reasonable people, and it did attract years ago, but almost all of them couldn't stand the mass stupidity and had fled after a while. Too bad that Darkfate administration does nothing about this grim situation.
