Alisa Shakor, the female lead singer and head of the band is making music since many years (before in the band "Alice in Wonderland"). She is very talented at singing, playing guitar and writing songs. Her actual project "Sad Alice Said" combines progressive, doom, symphonical metal and gothic music to a "sad" pleasure! You should really check her out. The songs can be bought at Amazon - support the band if you like them. I attached their latest official video with a song of their Single "Alive". All you need is a studio, a camera, some instruments - and of course a pretty woman! Look and see!

The recent announcement of the release of Nadja's new album and the upcoming release of Year of No Light's long-delayed Vampyr reminded me of this thread. So, new band today. And people wanting innovative and unconventional music will have a run for their money.

Nadja is a Canadian duo based in Germany that plays some of the most beautiful and dreamy extreme music. They basically play very dense, loud and abrasive drone doom but unlike most similar sounding bands they put an emphasis on amazing dreamy soundscapes rather than evil-sounding, muddy drones like Sunn O))). Note that this is still extreme experimental stuff and definitely not for everyone, and most of their tracks are 20-30+ minutes long and devoid of vocals. They have released more than 20 albums and scouring their discography can be a a pain. What's interesting with them is that, apart from two or three albums and some really average collaborations, they stayed consistently good and even got better with time. Some of their stuff is definitely evil-sounding, but most of their work is really pretty and I really like to fall semi-asleep to their music.

The 'entry-level' records I'd recommend are Dagdrøm (featuring live drumming rather than a drum machine, it's one of their least extreme records and by far their most melodic), Radiance of Shadows (extremely evil-sounding, VERY abrasive (the last track is basically a 30-minute glorious wall of noise), it's the total opposite of Dagdrøm), Touched (the 2007 re-record is by the best), Thaumogenesis (very pretty-sounding hour-long track) and Bliss Torn From Emptiness (their best record to date IMO, the original version is pretty cool too but extremely rare to find). Among their good collaborations, Pyramids With Nadja might be the best (very dreamy post-rockish drone doom/ambient with awesome vocals and flawless production) and their very recent kickass collaboration with Vampillia, The Primitive World.

Sadly their music is really hard to find on Youtube, and most of their tracks on it are in bad quality. Thus, a link to their bandcamp where you can stream their stuff: http://nadja.bandcamp.com/

After making this post and refreshing the browser in the main forum view I noticed I received a like.

Call it instinct or some sort of higher intention, but something told me it was Baal from whom I received it.

Very cool song btw. I also listened to another one from this album ("Forsaken" IIRC). Can you tell me it's name, as I can't read it. Guess I have to buy me some new CD's.

I think this old school stuff is something one must hear at all, thus meaning the whole album. Taking the songs for single is a bit monotonous, or as black metalers would say ... true.

I'm, maybe due to my age, more a fan of the newer stuff.

EDIT: "Fenris" sounds quite good.

This song is maybe kind of conventional edgy, but I like it with this surreal animation anyway.

If you like classic 70' ProgRock (especially Gentle Giant, Yes, King Crimson, etc etc), this is the new album from Spock's Beard, with new singer (Ted Leonard) and drummer (Jimmy Keegan), I think one of the best album for this band:

Nice Lyrics - video too from InsideOut :-D

I love this band! They're from the Netherlands and they combine elements of black metal and shoegaze to create soundscapes of long dark nights and snow covered landscapes. Best listened to late at night.

Mike Oldfield ends 60 today. Here's a live performance of Tubular bells II. Some of the melodies are a bit childish and sound is a bit sterile at some points, but I still think that's his best album. I just love how incredibly catchy every song is:

I also love:

First Prog album from the son of Phil Collins... He has the same voice of the father!

(and the same talent)

The band it's named "Sound of Contact":

The concept album it's si-fi based on a multidimensional creature.

Really interesting, it reminds me Genesis (of course!), but also something of the Camel, but more modern and fresh.

Suggested :-D

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?

Looks like the "Reverse April Fools" releases were too well hidden. Darkfate still hasn't acknowledge all the new releases. Did you play any of the new April Fools missions?
