Progressive, innovative and unconventional Music

STiFU

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, I'm new here. I didn't want my first post to be off topic but I'm still waiting for my Doom 3 game.

So, I'm all for progressive/experimental music. Here are some of my favorites (many of them disbanded):

the great King Crimson:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z9IQnDRYIYU

Sleepytime Gorilla Museum (rather weird and somehow metal, but very emotional):

The Mars Volta (comparably happy music)

(somehow am I not allowed to post a link)

I strongly suggest this young band from Canada (Toronto) that I discovered 2 days ago:

http://www.bolusmusic.com

They are named "Bolus", and it's out now their new album, named "Triangulate". In their site you can see a backstage on recording this album (in house: they produce, record, mastering and all).

This a song of the album with Lyrics:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Em9C1jTLfa8

They are very young, with a fresh and creative way to make prog and original music.

They do also cover and rap/pop music in a creative/prog comic way:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8E1ssqiOp7g

(it's a Michael Jackson cover :-))

The best song of the album (IMHO):

Hope you enjoy this indie music sharing :-D

Just in case anyone was thinking about getting into Drum&Bass, here is a beginner-friendly live mix featuring various subgenres of Drum&Bass music. Not really progressive, but I figured the people reading this thread are probably open to all kinds of music, as long as it's not cheesy crap! :)

After finding a box full of vinyl LPs I thought I had lost for good, I've been stuck listening to one of my favorite progressive rock albums of all time:

If you like that sort of thing, listen to the whole "The Snow Goose" album. It's fantastic.

That guy looks like the one from Game Of Thrones, Littlefinger was his name or Shortfinger I think?

I remember this show in my childhood, so beautiful show for a kid, the idea of cyborgs and bionic men, and magnificient jazz music by Oliver Nelson.

Oliver Nelson was a genius.

A thread about interesting music and (as far as I can tell) no Punk/Post-Punk/New Wave so far? Either I have a very strange taste in music, or all of that stuff is just too obscure (well, somone mentioned Throbbing Gristle, Einstürzende Neubauten and similar stuff before).

The Fall

Just two examples... they made over 20 studio albums (well, most of the stuff from after '86 isn't really that good... still a lot to check out, and they really went through some changes)

From their first album '79

From '86

Edit before posting: Well dang, how many media files am I allowed to post then?

Edit after posting: Okay, I don't want to have to make 100 different posts, one for each band... although, if the 2.0 download keeps going at 5kb/s I guess I'l have enough time ;)

In america, our http://www.epplc.com/ リュック perception of http://www.ez-day.com/c-10.html ニューバランス 靴 one portion is extremely distorted. Restaurant portions are about three times more than what you should be eating in one relaxing. If we become accustomed to seeing this much foodstuff on our plate in a restaurant http://www.epplc.com/categories-6.html コーチ 財布 we tend to complete the same when were at home and provide ourselves. According http://www.ez-day.com/c-37.html ポールスミス 時計 セール to a study by Center for Disease Manage and Prevention, women are eating 300 more calories every day and men 168 additional calories http://www.epplc.com/categories-7.html ガガミラノ 新作 than 20 years ago. All it takes will be 100 extra calories each day to gain 10 pounds a year. For one week, reduce your portions from lunch and dinner through half. There is no need to "clean your plate". Most times what's with your plate is http://www.epplc.com/categories-13.html マークバイマークジェイコブス マザーズバック double what you should be eating anyway. If you feel some hunger within the afternoon, add one small apple with a few raw http://www.ez-day.com/c-38.html ブランド バッグ nuts as a snack. Your body will quickly become used to the smaller portions and you may eventually not be in a position to eat as much a single sitting as you would before. Dehydration has コーチ directly been caused by several forms of disorders including ヴィヴィアンウエストウッド バッグ colon cancer, high blood pressure, and elevated cholesterol concentrations. Many people also miscalculation thirst for hunger. So it may not be that you're hungry all day, you may just become thirsty and dehydrated. Really ガガミラノ 時計 レディース evaluate how you might be treating your body with an everyday basis. Is that the same manner you would treat a highly valuable, expensive piece ケイトスペード バッグ of products? I've liked this song, ever since I was very young. The part starting at around a minute always sounded great, especially when the melody kicks in. I know a lot of people can't stand this kind of music, but I really can't stand a lot of mainstream music myself. People singing about make-up and other crap to a background track that sounds the same the entire way through the song just puts me off.

The nice thing about Reznor's music is that every song is very distinct.

(Obviously, it sounds much better without the shitty Youtube low-bitrate audio compression)

That guy uses way too much pedal IMO. How long have you been playing by the way?

I agree. It still sounds amazing, though.

Well, I took lessons for thirteen years in my childhood, but if you don't count the years I didn't practice other than in the lesson itself, it's more like seven years! :D And now that I had recently bought a stage piano for my flat, I started playing again regularly on my own after a 10 years break. I don't consider myself a talented piano player, but I am having fun and it's still sufficient to impress the ladies... ;-)

I love all kinds of music, and can get something from it, as long as it's not so much a reproduction of something I've heard before and am familiar with.

Extreme metal (black/death) + electronic music (industrial/ambient) has always inspired me the most as progressive / groundbreaking because the artists are generally pushing the envelope with what can actually be considered music.

There was a time that THE VELVET UNDERGROUND were considered avantgarde or noise. That tag wouldn't apply today in the broad spectrum, but in their heyday they were a leading band of the time in those "unexplored" territories. Did anyone mention KRAFTWERK? They'd laid groundwork for generations to come.

Finally got my PC back from the shop after my SSD got corrupted a week ago and damaged my motherboard. Scary stuff, but thank goodness it happened right after two months of FM development instead of wiping all my work before I could release it. New SSD, repaired Motherboard and BIOS, and we're ready to start working on my second FM with some added version control in the cloud just to be safe!

I've updated the articles for your FMs and your author category at the wiki. Your newer nickname (DeTeEff) now comes first, and the one in parentheses is your older nickname (Fieldmedic). Just to avoid confusing people who played your FMs years ago and remember your older nickname. I've added a wiki article for your latest FM, Who Watches the Watcher?, as part of my current updating efforts. Unless I overlooked something, you have five different FMs so far.
