Hello, today I updated my game with 1.03 update. Before this update my game was runnig flawlessly, no errors etc. Updating process went fine, no errors during download... But after game start , the loading logo appers and then error. Here's crash log:

Which FM do you have currently installed, this sounds like a crash that was happening with Thieves! Go to your Darkmod folder, open currentfm.txt and delete whatever is listed. Save it and try to launch TMD. If it is the Thieves crash there is a new version of the map. Hope it works for ya.

Hmn, that looks like either an outdated scripts file or an outdated dll. Rerunning the updater should fix it. Or maybe you got "Thieves" installed? That FM was accidentally shipped with a scripts file, that is now outdated. A new version of that FM is available.

TwoFootAfro: Deleted content of currenfm.txt (only 'stalban' was listed there), tried to launch - the same

And for the version - yeah, I noticed that too, but updater says 1.03...

New Horizon: Launched updater again - "All files are up to date"

Still crashes

Edit: Found a solution... looked again in the log and when I've read this

copy gamex86.dll to C:\DOOM 3\darkmod\gamex86.dll
could not create destination file

my suspicion wen't to firewall blocking this copying proces and after disabling COMODO firewall - game works!

Thanks for your time and advice, I'm going to play some FM's:)

...think my prob fits here:

After taking a break I just ran the update. Unfortunately TDM wont run -- looks like it doesn't like my system. Here's the critical part where it fails:

found DLL in pak file: /home/myself/.doom3/darkmod/tdm_game02.pk4/gamex86.so
copy gamex86.so to /home/myself/.doom3/darkmod/gamex86.so
dlopen '/home/myself/.doom3/darkmod/gamex86.so' failed: /home/myself/.doom3/darkmod/gamex86.so: undefined symbol: clock_gettime
Regenerated world, staticAllocCount = 0.
idRenderSystem::Shutdown()
Sys_Error: couldn't load game dynamic library

My OS is Ubuntu 10.04 (lucid). My guess is I am missing a package that makes my computer understand clock_gettime() OR some part of the mod needs a recompile. The internet says something like clock_gettime() was moved from libc to librt but I really can't make anything out of it. It's a strange world, the internet.

Suggestions appreciated.

First thing to check is if you have the right gamex86.so file:

Open a console (Alt-F2, then enter "terminal" I believe for Ubuntu, or "konsole" for Kubuntu), and run:

$ sha1sum gamex86.so
46c99a6412aae7ce008560d108ae47c5867f12d4 gamex86.so

If you SHA1 of the file is different, you got the wrong file.

The next thing is to check if it links against get_clocktime:

nm gamex86.so |grep clock_gettime

Interestingly enough, the one from v1.03 doesn't have it, but the development version I compiled here has it.

(E.g. the development version says "U get_clocktime", the v1.03 one doesn't say anything).

So it seems v1.03 is indeed broken for this :( The strange thing is, on my system TDM still runs, and I too have (K)ubuntu 10.04.

Do you have the 64bit version? Can you please give us the output of

uname -a

"The reasonable man adapts himself to the world; the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself. Therefore, all progress depends on the unreasonable man." -- George Bernard Shaw (1856 - 1950)

"Remember: If the game lets you do it, it's not cheating." -- Xarax

First thing to check is if you have the right gamex86.so file:

I did so before posting. :) Deleted gamex86.so and the two game-pk4s to get a fresh version via tdm_update. I also deleted currentmission.txt to be sure. Checksum is identical to yours.

The next thing is to check if it links against get_clocktime:

nm gamex86.so |grep clock_gettime

Says "U get_clocktime" exactly one time, so I have the right file and the undefined symbol. Maybe nm's output is system dependent?

I'm running the 32-bit-version of lucid. uname says:

Linux mybox 2.6.32-27-generic #49-Ubuntu SMP Wed Dec 1 23:52:12 UTC 2010 i686 GNU/Linux

Still hoping it's just a missing package.

Thanks. :)

Sounds like a (g)libc mismatch (linux, the horror of distros and ABI breakage :V) or whoever compiled was playing around with switches, but I'd say thats unlikely.

Make sure you have the respective 32bit libs first, you might only have AMD64/x64

And failing that : If you feel like rolling your own, it'll most likely work just fine :)

He has a 32bit system, so this won't help.

Yeah, it might be that the version we compiled only works on 32bit Linux or only on some older one?

It sounds to me like the clock_gettime symbol was previously defined in libc but has now been moved to a library that the game.so is not linked with, therefore it cannot find it on newer systems. If this is the case, I think the only solutions would be (1) providing different versions of the game .so for different systems or (2) finding what is using this symbol and change the code so that it no longer requires it (which may or may not be possible depending on how important it is).

He has a 32bit system, so this won't help.

I'm using Ubuntu 10.10 32bit, and the update works fine for me (only needed to update more times, for data corruption on my DoomConfig.cfg as reported in a thread I opened recently). I still have other minor bugs (sounds stops on the menu like in the 1.02) but generally speaking all it's ok, you all made a super good job :-D

(so i'd like to thank you all here :-) )

Installed a brand new Ubuntu 10.10 (32-bit) on another partition, made Doom work, copied DarkMod over, made sure tdm_update says it's fine -- still I end up with the same not working at all situation.

Mmmh. I think 1.04 will arrive soon enaugh for me. Else I would consider compiling stuff myself, which is a hassle for an unexperienced non coder guy like me...

Please, can we finally group the missions by year in the game menu?

I vaguely recall someone recently complained about two-sided materials (curtains?) not getting lighting from both sides
I just found a piece of code that's supposed to do just that
      Where was that discussed? (@nbohr1more?)

I still play classic Doom (albeit with user-made mods and maps rather than the original campaign) on a regular basis. A game from the early 90's which has still got a healthy following in 2022. Pretty amazing.

I'm beginning to understand why people who aren't into social clubbing "don't last long" on this project, and why it's so full of holes. When moderators are siding with bullies, by closing down threads that they derail, then I start to wonder if I should support the platform to begin with.
I'm sure that the core development is solid, but when you're constantly tone policed and bullied, and moderators are playing into it too, then the project will just drive away talent, and replace it with socialites instead. ...and without talent, you only end up with a small skeleton crew trying to do everything themselves.
...so Dragofer and Airship Ballet, and all you other socialites, you win. From now on I'll just keep to myself. You'll never be able to do my work, but at least you'll be happy together, and that's what matters to you.

      Update
Actually, I have to revise my statement:
I actually messaged greebo - the top dog, I gather - about nbohr1more's outburst of insanity below, and since I haven't even heard back from him, I just have to assume that there's not a single core programmer here, who's not backing nbohr's threats. ...and that's bad.
...so if you're a newbie reading this, or an honest soul like ZergRush, then just slowly back out of these forums, run, and don't look back. This is nothing more than a cult posing as a game development project, using Thief and IDTech4 to sucker hopefuls in, to do work for them, while trying to cajole them into something going on behind the scenes, which apparently - according to nbohr - is something that should be hidden from the state. These people aren't programmers - they don't even understand things like how to fix the simplest bugs. All they have, is an engine, and an IP, and some sort of fascist social cult. There was some other project I saw being made in the Unreal Engine. Try joining that project. ...or start a project of your own. Anything but this asylum.
Hopefully that was "divisive" enough for a final post, because at this point I really want people to leave this place. This project is, on a management level, just awful garbage, run by garbage people, apparently from the top down, and I'm just glad that they have a garbage place to stay, together, and hopefully forever.
