Wow ocn!

If someone asked me what mood that the words "The Dark Mod" evoke, that would be pretty much it!

THIS NEEDS TO BE RELEASED!

In the Vertical Contest, Bikerdude helped Fieldmedic with his mission.

Naaaah, don't pull Biker into that mess :D He only helped me with the visportaling and he pointed out the obvious unrealistic nature of that mission ;)

Is it possible to break a mission? I can understand that it really can be a pain in the ass to find certain leaks, but even I cannot be accused for breaking maps...

ocn, of course you shall continue on that mission!

Ha ha!

It looks like our contest mappers will be able to use the new Object LOD and SEED system in their missions after all.

I have posted the release article at Moddb but more will follow (not yet authorized):

agreed. This contest's missions can be so freaking awesome!! I believe 3 months mapping duration is enough for learning & implementing these stuff.

  • 2 weeks later...

After getting knighton's updated, rather than doing something useful, I found myself dropping a few brushes into an empty map.

The first few strokes on the canvas looked promising. I'm upgrading my contest entry inclination from 'definately not' into a 'maybe.'

You can run, but you can't hide! ;)

No. I am working on a large mission that takes up all my editing time.

Come the time of peril, did the ground gape, and did the dead rest unquiet 'gainst us. Our bands of iron and hammers of stone prevailed not, and some did doubt the Builder's plan. But the seals held strong, and the few did triumph, and the doubters were lain into the foundations of the new sanctum. -- Collected letters of the Smith-in-Exile, Civitas Approved

good news

I hope this will be another city mission with black&white lightning

Melan is not the author of "The Transaction"... you are taking a swipe at the wrong FM author...

I don't think it was meant as a swipe; rather, a reference to the strongly desaturated lighting style used in Return to the City and Dromed missions I had worked on. To answer the question, the mission I'm working on will have a mixture of saturated and desaturated lights: more of the former in the exteriors and more of the latter in the interiors.

Also, it still needs a lot of work, so don't expect it immediately.

Yes, I see part of the issue... For some reason the  emoticon is used in different contexts depending on the nationality of the person posting...

For an American the  emoticon means "yeah, whatever" or is similarly dismissive or condescending.

Also... that would be "lighting" rather than "lightning" (the latter being an electrical discharge from the sky... )

:)

Haha, so we've reached the point where we discuss emoticon interpretation now? :D I'd say it's context dependent. In this case, it's an innocent smile and he wants to express that he looks up to Melan. :)

By the way Shadowhide, regardless of maybe a little lacking knowledge of the english language and the initial ignorance when you first came here, I think it's great that you participate so much in our community by now. I am glad you changed your mind about TDM. Spread the word! :)

i am so euphoric to see new FMs keep coming out and I am keen to try it out in my leisure time, then suddenly my PC is spouting a couple of S.M.A.R.T errors...
tbf i cannot afford myself to miss my network emulator image file&progress, important ebooks, hyper-v checkpoint & hyper-v export and the precious thief & TDM gamesaves. Don't fall yourself into & lay your hands on crappy SSD

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?
