AMD Athlon X2 2.8 GHz Dual-Core, 2 GB RAM, ATI Radeon HD 3200, 22" (1920 x 1080)

No problems with other fan missions. ;)

Ok the cpu is more than capable, but the gfx card is no faster than a HD2400pro, re the screen res, the HD3200 wont be able to play all but the oldest game at 1920*1080 - so you will have to play TDM at 1280*720 or 1280*1024 or lower.

 

What the version of windows? and as the gfx is buit into the mobo chipset are you using the recommended drive from the maker of the laptop, or if its not a laptop the driver cd that came with the mobo....

 

If its a laptop whats the make and model..?

Nope, I'm sure it's ReturnToTheCityV2.pk4 on TDM 1.03. When I try to load the fan mission "The Transaction" it displays "TDM Version Mismatch. Cannot install this mission as it requires The Dark Mod v1.04."

I can't find the settings for compression. :huh:

Is that screenshot from 1.04? I thought those settings were introduced in 1.04. If not, I'm sorry for the confusion. Here's my reasoning. Malloc error stands for problem with memory allocation so lowering the weight of files loaded to memory may help. I had the same malloc failure for 4194312 in this mission and turning compression of textures helped (mission did load). To enable texture compression make sure you have these values in DoomConfig.cfg in darkmod folder:

 

seta image_usePrecompressedTextures "1"
seta image_useNormalCompression "2"
seta image_useAllFormats "1"
seta image_useCompression "1"

This will compress textures during loading. If that doesn't help... When I had malloc failure with The Caduceus of St Alban I had to decrease the resolution of textures on loading. You can try that by putting these values:

 

seta image_downSizeBumpLimit "512"
seta image_downSizeBump "1"

This will reduce the resolution of all normalmaps which are bigger than 512 px.

EDIT: I see you can run the map in ver 1.03 so it should run in 1.04 without changing resolution of textures. But I would still check the compression settings.

OK.

 

We are now sure of the issue.

 

RTTC V2 is a 1.04 map.

 

Folks have had success playing it in 1.03 but it will be missing textures (at least). You need to upgrade to 1.04

 

(It will also be missing Nosslak's globe.)

I just finished the first mission and I gotta say:

very impressive work. The whole setting was so immersive, I felt like back in the old Thief-Days^^

First, I would post to the TDM 1.04 issues thread in the Tech Support sub-forum

 

Second, to collect a dump, open the console and type "conDump CantStart.txt" once this has been done, you should see a text file as named in the directory for the installed mission.

The three PK4's need to be placed in the FMS directory separately...
