Weapon issue in 1.04?

Thought I'd throw this out there, as I know there were changes to the weapon code recently. I've noticed unusual behaviour with the blackjack that I haven't seen before. At least three times over two nights of play, I clicked the mouse to swing the blackjack, and instead of swinging, the arm raised and then froze in place. A subsequent click swung it normally. It triggered a memory I had of a while ago, having similar behaviour with the bow, where I clicked it once and the bow seemed to freeze; I had to switch to a different weapon to make it usable again.

Anyone else noticing odd things with weapons?

Yes, I've had this. Click mouse, bow is readied. Release mouse, nothing. Another click, arrow is shot. This occured when I was trying to fire the bow very fast.

Also, people have been seeing blackjack/sword overlapping combination in the transaction-map. I don't understand why, since the mission just has simple cutscenes: they shouldn't change weapon behavior or make them appear on top of each other. I've not seen this myself, so those who have gotten this to happen, please post here very accurately how you got it to happen.

Interesting that you mention that, I had it happen last night...a double sword (one of which cast a shadow, oddly).

I assume it's related to the cutscene, though I don't know why. I did have my sword selected before the scene played out. Scrolling away from the sword and back after I was done with the sword fixed the problem.

Odd. The cutscene script does nothing to player weapons. The player should just resume just like he was before the cutscene started. Maybe there is a bug with resetting weapons when returning control to the player after a cutscene? This would mean that this occurs with any cutscene which player starts while wielding a weapon.

Not quite the same thing but I saw that if I clicked left mouse while a readable was on screen: My blackjack hand would stay raised until I clicked attack again. This was playing 'the Transaction', the first mission I've played with TDM 1.04. In previous versions I think I'd get a normal BJ swing if I clicked attack to make a readable go away?

Also, people have been seeing blackjack/sword overlapping combination in the transaction-map.

I experienced that (see attachment) when I triggered the cutscene with my blackjack out. The sword just appeared. (Is there more than one? What's that on the side of the BJ?). Afterwards I did a few experiments:

If I trigger the cutscene with my blackjack out I get the blackjack-sword combo when the Lich Queen attacks. If afterwards I pick up Grenefeld's body, the blackjack part disappears but the sword is still visible.

If I trigger the cutscene with my sword out I get the double-sword when the Lich Queen attacks. If afterwards I pick up Grenefeld's body, both swords are hidden.

If I trigger the cutscene weaponless, I'm still weaponless when she attacks. I can take out my (normal) sword and take her down.

I play on Linux, just in case it's relevant.

And related to this an important question:

Do you change your blackjack to the sword?

Or do you start the cutscene your blackack visible and then when it ends, you mysteriously have the sword (+BJ) even when you did not change weapons at all?

We haven't done many cutscenes, so this problem might pre-date the weapon-switch changes I made in 1.04. The 1.04 changes were thoroughly tested (by me and others), with all problems addressed, so either something's gone missing, or cutscene transitions are messing up the weapons somehow.

Please file as many bugtracker issues as it takes to cover the problems mentioned, and assign them to me.

For the record, I think the cutscene issue is completely separate from the original issue reported in the first post.

This.

Edit: I tried restarting the mission and going straight for the bookshop, with notarget on. And then again using the original .pk4, i.e. not dmap'ed to fix aas warnings on Linux. No change in either case.

For the record, I think the cutscene issue is completely separate from the original issue reported in the first post.

The double sword could be the melee physisc test sword that's supposed to be put in the same place as the first person sword, and set to nodraw. We never fully transitioned to a system where the animations have an empty hand and the code puts the sword in there, so we ended up with two swords, because the player sword isn't a real object. The test-sword is supposed to be set invisible, but maybe going in and out of a cinematic while the sword is drawn is somehow un-hiding it? Does it go away if you sheathe the sword and draw it again?

Yes, it does.

Also, I had the same double-sword happen after the

second cutscene, in the basement

. So it's not specific to the first cutscene.

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?

Looks like the "Reverse April Fools" releases were too well hidden. Darkfate still hasn't acknowledge all the new releases. Did you play any of the new April Fools missions?
