DarkMod first impression

Don't bite my head off, but is there a way for a mapper to make someone get up in 3 instead of 4 seconds, or is the animation hard-coded? Personally, I always thought that AI really takes its time to get out of bed.

You can open the animation file in text editor and change

frameRate

It's only a model...

No its not like "guys, your box movement is horrible, quickly remake it or else i won't play your mod@. Its more like showing, from another perspective, which part of mod looks weird or unpleasant. If its possible to make guards standing up faster, it would be perfect, if its not then no problem. Sorry if i sounded like an angry kid who don't like his present...

Dang it. Now I feel bad.

Imagine if it turned out a well-liked high-profile poster turned out to be a spambot all along. That would be awkward.

Well, i can run crysis on high settings with native res, so i can't agree that my card isnt sufficient. Its more like "not optimal optimization". Guess i should wait till source smile.gif

Crysis 1 is dual-core threaded. Doom 3 is single-core threaded. Doom 3 uses no more than 50% of your dual core cpu.

A 1600MHz laptop C2D is too slow for playing modded doom 3. 1600MHz is enough for Crysis 1 (because it is dual-threaded) but not for modded Doom 3.

Back in 2008, I played Crysis 1 with a Nvidia 8800GTS 320MB vram at 1680x1050 in dx9. Crysis 1 runs amazingly well on weak videocards with low vram.

Play the dark mod on a desktop cpu and desktop graphics card. I suggest at least 3GHz cpu and at least 1GB vram.

I've got a 2.4 quad and 1 gig vram (ddr3) and it runs fine. Before I had 512 vram(ddr2) and it was OK too (but that card was kindof laggy in a lot of games nvidia8600gts). Performance is way better now, but 512 vram is ok.

Guys, i've installed 2.0, today in 2013, and still see stretched main menu in 1920x1080, same for lightning gem in game. Last time i was wondering wtf you said its all because we don't have sources, but not you have them, so what's the problem?

Or development team is still sitting on 19inch 1280x1024?)

I'm not a dev, but I recently switched to a 16:9 display. The stretching is noticeable, but it doesn't bother me at all. The team has been very dedicated to fixing much more important bugs and making this thing standalone so that it can attract the masses.

Time is short and this is a volunteer project, and we need to be greatful for all the big issues like AIs not finding bodies that have been fixed.

You can somewhat overcome the stretching a bit by adjusting the FOV using g_fov [value] from the console when in a mission. The default is 90, I'm using 118 for my setup, a single monitor would probably be fine with 95-105.

Intel Sandy Bridge i7 2600K @ 3.4ghz stock clocks
8gb Kingston 1600mhz CL8 XMP RAM stock frequency
Sapphire Radeon HD7870 2GB FLeX GHz Edition @ stock @ 1920x1080

That issue annoys me too, but it's a question of manpower. Maybe we'll see some fresh blood with all the renewed interest.

+1

The appearence of the hud is controlled by a gui file, it is not hard-coded IIRC.

So if anyone has a 16:9 monitor and some time I can take a look and tell him how he or she has to change the gui files to look good under such resolutions/ on such screens.

This way we could at least upload modified gui files for those people needing it.

Speaking of first impressions, I can't wait for the first time people run into a "Benny" guard. :)

Guys, doors are opening VERY slow. And if you are on its way it will stuck (like in original thief) and ull have to reopen it. And its slooooow

What do you mean by slow? I haven't seen anything out of the ordinary with doors.

That is how doors behave, isn't it? Do you want doors that push you away??

Well, you cant compare game and real life. And irl door opening speed is only limited by the speed of your hands :)

What i'm saying that in thief 1-2 doors was opening much faster. That's all.

Assuming T1/2 doors took at least half a second to open, TDM doors are, at most, half a second slower. I think we can live with that.

Well we can live with many things, with squeezed interface on 16:9 monitors, with slow doors, with clunky item movement, with sounds that comes through walls...

half a second was just on the edge. half a second more and this is a boring picture...

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?

Looks like the "Reverse April Fools" releases were too well hidden. Darkfate still hasn't acknowledge all the new releases. Did you play any of the new April Fools missions?
