today I moved to win7 64 bit.

I reinstalled doom3 and TDM 1.05 , then install 64 bit dark radiant 1.6.1 with VC++ 2010 Redistributable Package 64 Bit

But perfomance in DR is horrible ! I need to wait ~5-7 seconds until 1 brush creating (on empty map)

my specs :

Win 7 64 bit

processor : E7400 Dual Core 2.80mhz (I think is 32 bit processor)

4GB ram

GeForce GTS250 , 512 mb

Proceed with caution!

That doesn't make sense. If you have a 32 bit processor, you have to run 32 bit windows...so your processor must be 64 bit...it really couldn't be anything else.

Having said that, your system specs appear similar to mine and I don't have to wait that long to create a brush.

Did you disable desktop composition in Dark Radiant? Click on 'Edit > preferences > compatability >' then put a checkmark next to disable desktop composition. That might be your issue, but it might not. Can't really say. DR is very fast on my system and it's pretty much the same as yours.

Another thing you might want to look into is whether or not your video driver vendor has updated drivers...I often find that the drivers that come with windows are not always the best.

That's because a 64 bit processor can run 32 bit windows...but a 32 bit processor can't run 64 bit windows. A 64 bit processor is backwards compatible...it's not possible for a 32 bit processor to be forwards compatible. ;)

Yep, if you disable desktop composition it should hopefully solve the issues you're having. DR doesn't support Windows 7 Desktop Composition. I disable desktop composition on windows 7 all the time anyway since it causes weird video outpout crashes when I have my laptop hooked up to an external monitor.

Hi. I installed 1.6.1 (64-bit edition) and have some odd behaviour that's inhibiting my ability to work on maps. :P

Dark Radiant appears to not render zooming or panning changes correctly for me. For instance, if I zoom in the orthoview (using, say, the mouse wheel) I get no response till I click on another panel in the program, then the orthoview refreshes. Has this been known to happen on some systems? I can move and objects around (and resize them) in the window with Dark Radiant displaying the changes "real time", but not the zooming or panning. It's far too frustrating to map like this...

This is the system I'm on:

i7 740QM

Geforce GTX 285M (1 GB)

6 GB RAM

Win 7 64-bit (obviously)

Actually, the panels don't necessarily render properly when I minimize then restore the program. The toolbars, buttons, etc. do, but not the graphical map areas.

Edit: found something on desktop composition... I'll try that. After I look up what that option does...

Edit the second: That did it, alright.

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?

Looks like the "Reverse April Fools" releases were too well hidden. Darkfate still hasn't acknowledge all the new releases. Did you play any of the new April Fools missions?
