The first video?

I don't recall ever seeing it before.

Seems like a rather pointless video....

October 2004? So, would you have persevered with your work if you knew it would be five more years in the making? :)

Come the time of peril, did the ground gape, and did the dead rest unquiet 'gainst us. Our bands of iron and hammers of stone prevailed not, and some did doubt the Builder's plan. But the seals held strong, and the few did triumph, and the doubters were lain into the foundations of the new sanctum. -- Collected letters of the Smith-in-Exile, Civitas Approved

Luckily TDM followed through, otherwise the above would be one of the million instances where someone produces a bad, pointless "we don't tell you what this is about"-trailer with declamatory music and a lot of epileptic-seizure-inducing flashes that are longer than the actual content - and then school starts again and nobody ever hears from the project again. :D

We should be glad it turned out otherwise. :)

At the beginning it was just going to be a one year project with some simple goals. Then our ambitions quickly got bigger and for several years it was always "about two more years" to finish. It's a pattern I now recognize in most big projects. ^_^

Fascinating stuff, I must say I really admire the art direction in this mod because it was able to create its own identity (which means creativity boldness) but at the same time being quite economical and choosing a very appropriate "realistic" feel to the project. You can see the influence of historical material on the designs, which simply gives them a kind of "makes sense" feel, which I guess a lot of people overlook when there's freedom to design potentially anything you want.

Speaking only about colours... From one side, knights needed additional shirt over armour in sunny days to not boil up, and black armour would be acceptable only in some northern regions to catch up sun heat. From other side black armour is a sign of black knights, people who both follow strict moral codex and breake it by practising ways of witchcraft. He is a knight's equivalent of anti-priest. But I love Warhammer 40K and such over the top visage is just one step from it.

Originally we tossed around the idea of providing both male and female protagonists (which actually wouldn't take a great deal of effort to do now). Here was my concept for the female player character:

Spring, do you have a larger-sized scan? If so, can you pls upload it?

Yes, I had spoken with Wynne about providing the vocals. If I recall correctly, she didn't have access to recording equipment anymore. She was the lead character in Thief 2X for anyone who might be wondering who that is. :)

I don't have a larger digital copy. I'd have to look for the original...somewhere.

Hmmm... There are two things I would note about her. One thing is the hair. As a female Thief, she would want to have either very short or very long hair. With the current length, she would not see very much while moving since she always would have her hair in her face. Not a good thing if you want to escape but you can't see nothing ;)

Another thing are the finger nails. You don't want them to be too long.

The cool thing on this community is that you can give advice to your big boss and he can not just fire you.

Sorry Springheel, I hope you look at this with humour! :P

Really cool to see the concept sketches and screen shots. :) And I have to say I love the main menu with the icey blue moonlight streaming in the window at night, sooo thiefy... feels like looking out a medieval window onto the city. =) If anyone with access to that shot or a similar one wants to make an alternate background image mod for the current main menu, that would be really cool. :)

By the way, I understand why some prefer the current sort of parchment look, which I think is nice, too. But that blue moonlight at night coming through that old window... it's like something right out of a mission. I can almost hear the cathedral's bell ringing, perhaps for some special holiday night time service, and closer to the window, people come and go from nearby taverns and guards patrol the streets, so nice... :)

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?

Looks like the "Reverse April Fools" releases were too well hidden. Darkfate still hasn't acknowledge all the new releases. Did you play any of the new April Fools missions?
