Dark Beer

Hehe, glad you liked it, BD. I'm just wondering how you drank the beer with your visor closed. ^_^

My Eigenvalue is bigger than your Eigenvalue.

Reminds me there's a public service commercial in the US, a biker is stopped by the police, and the cop shines the flashlight into his helmet visor and it's full of beer up to his eyes, lol (well funny minus the driving part). He opens it up and the beer comes streaming out and he tries to act like nothing's wrong. That's what this photo reminds me of. Just pour the beer in & close the visor.

What do you see when you turn out the light? I can't tell you but I know that it's mine.

Looks like good bier! My all-time favorite is Spaten Optimator... followed closely by Boont Amber Ale (from northern California).

Optimator is good. I know Leffe is owned by the huge corporation Interbrauw, so I'm not supposed to like it, but for me, Leffe Dubbel is hard to beat, and Blonde is good too. Westmalle Dubbel as well, basically anything Dubbel.

Since I went to UTexas in Austin in the Texas hill country (strongly German region), and German was my foreign language in school & I went to the competitions down there, so I was even more attached to that history & community, of course my favorite beer has to be Shiner Boch, the famous local brew there. Not that I needed much reason; it's a legendary beer in Texas.

Never tasted that, but there are so many kinds of Beer in Germany that one never manages to try them all, anyway :)

Also, from Blanco Texas, near north San Antonio, Real Ale Brewery makes an awesome Belgian tripel style ale, Devils Backbone http://realalebrewing.com/beers/backbone

It truly can compare with authentic Belgian ale.

So can PranQster, from North Coast Brewery in Fort Bragg, California http://northcoastbrewing.com/beer-Pranqster.htm ... it's an awesome brew!

Currently sipping a bottle of Rebellion Red from my local brewery...

I think it's absolute madness to import what are essentially lagers from other parts of the world so I try to stick to purely British booze. =-P

I wouldn't say it's madness. It's nice to "tour the world" through each country's beer, and it's nice to be partisan to local brews too. It's not like it's an either-or thing. That's what free trade is all about. You can enjoy both the local & the foreign. People like to do that for wine & coffee & cheese, so beer shouldn't be different.

Forgive me - what I am talking about in particular are really uninteresting beers and lagers being exchanged around the world.

For example, Newcastle Brown Ale is being marketed to Americans in trendy 330ml bottles at a high price. A far cry from the Geordie origins of that drink. =-P

And then Americans send unremarkable things like Sierra Nevada over here and people pay £4/5 a pint in a city pub thinking they are trying something particularly special.

Just seems like a lot of air miles and waste and marketing nonsense to me. x-D

Ouch! £4+ for a pint of Sierra is pretty outrageous. I often pay $4-5 USD for pints, but even that price is too high for Sierra. I haven't thought very highly of that beer since about 20 years ago.

I like the new frob highlight but it would nice if it was less "flickery" while moving over objects (especially barred metal doors).
