TDM Beginners Contest

Hey guys. My map is about near ready for betatesting. What i need is someone native in English who could overlook/check my readables and fix them/say me how to fix them. I am not a native english speaker so there are probably grammatical errors + the awkward use of some vocabluary (dictionarys always list about 10 possibilities to translate a certain word ;) ) included. Whether the wording is appropriate for the Thief/TDM universe should also be checked (no need for some medieaval slang, but e.g. i dont know which words would be too "modern" or too much "modern slang" etc.). Its not really that much, about 9 readables + the briefing. It would be really nice if someone would help me with that. ;)

They are already in the map, but i would simply send all of them in a text/word-file for an easy check. o;

Don't get me wrong but you surprised me by reaching to beta test stage. :) I tough you will disappear after some time since you post rarely. Congrats in advance!

Sorry all, in case it wasn't obvious, I won't be participating in this contest. I did start a mission way back, but was lured into the dromed Reloaded2 contest and am just finishing up testing on that mission now. Maybe after all that is wrapped up, I can get back to some DRing...

But I'll search for your Thief map :)

Ok, my mission is now probably "rdy" with only some additional minor details (like a loading Screen) missing. Therefore i need some people (2-3) who will actually give me some feedback about the map, especially gameplay but ofc other things you find too. If you want to betatest my map sent me please a pm. :)

Ok, haven't heard back from Biker in a couple of days, so if nothing comes back tomorrow I'm going finalise the last objective, do a little more detail work, then it should be ready for beta-testing. If a couple of people are willing, a beta version should be ready on say, the 4th or 5th of April. Maybe the 6th.

Thanks mate, noted. More likely the 6th, I'm gonna do some work and possibly rip it out as a prefab, incase Biker is working some real magic, but I do need to finish this up to a proper playable state very shortly and get it out there.

I know, I'm not sure what happened. Either a misunderstanding, or a breakdown in communication, but I fear I may have lost 3 days of mapping time due to it. Still have 10 days until the contest deadline, April 14th, and perhaps 2 days of IRL work in those 10 days, so with some solid time investment the release candidate should be worthy.

Guys, have there been any prices announced for winning this contest? Also, if I'm not mistaken, we are talking about 4 maps right now, right?

My Eigenvalue is bigger than your Eigenvalue.

7up - No prizes, not really. And yes, so far it's me, Xarg, Jysk and Serioustony I think.

Xarg - Watch out my friend, the contest is actually on the 12th (according to the first page).

RPGista: Okay, I don't know if any of the contestants is interested, but I have a Steam gift coupon for Deus Ex: Human Revolution. If there is interest, I'd offer the game as the prize for winning the contest. It's just the bare game, however, without any DLCs. Still it's one of the best games I have ever played. I can recommend it to anyone who likes sneaking games.

Well, if it's going that way....

I have A Steam gift I will throw in too. Maybe second place? It's The Ship

It's like Clue, on a ship and you have to figure out who the killer is (it might be you so watch your back). Was originally a mod for Half life, now it's an official release (redone I believe).

I haven't played much myself but...

Of course these would require you to use Steam, might as well join the DarkMod group too, lol.

i am so euphoric to see new FMs keep coming out and I am keen to try it out in my leisure time, then suddenly my PC is spouting a couple of S.M.A.R.T errors...
tbf i cannot afford myself to miss my network emulator image file&progress, important ebooks, hyper-v checkpoint & hyper-v export and the precious thief & TDM gamesaves. Don't fall yourself into & lay your hands on crappy SSD

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?
