DarkRadiant + Windows XP

Is anybody still using DarkRadiant in Windows XP around here? I could need somebody to test the recent SVN builds in Windows XP, it might be possible that the recent changes broke the GL renderviews in some way, but I can't check it myself since I only have the virtual "XP Mode" for testing.

If anybody is willing to give it a try in WinXP, please let me know.

Window textures that have a light shining on them where the light doesn't have a light texture on it renders windows texture black, some non window textures are also rendering black, namely wood textures.

skybox doesn't render, it appears grey.

Also rendering window is very dark.

Thanks for anyone volunteering, I'll go ahead and post a link to the pre-release snapshot:

Are you compiling DarkRadiant from SVN?

There are several issues with the lighting renderer at the moment, including one "random blacking-out" bug which I have committed a work-around for until a proper fix can be implemented, and the non-rendered skybox textures that you mention. At least if others are experiencing them too I know that it isn't just a problem with Linux 3D support, which can often be the weak link.

Sooo, while not completely on topic:

I need someone with XP/Win2k3 - I want to know if alt+tab, alt+esc and the windows key work when you are running fullscreen in doom3/TDM.

By default win_allowAltTab is 0 and win_notaskkeys is 0.

I'm using win7 and I can alt+tab out fine(as well as any other windows key combos), however I remember people not being able to alt+tab easily in XP, they had to use the windows key first. It all seems a bit broken and useless, I cant see a good reason to prevent this stuff - so I want to clean it up.

And generally - any other gripes with the way keyboard stuff is managed; let me know.

I did a few hours of brush- and texture works in DR1.8.0-pre1 on Win XP / Nvidia Drivers without noticing any issues so far (of the functionality I usually use).

Is there any particular DR function to test for?

@ Serpentine

Alt+Tab don't exit when running fullscreen in TDM on my XP rig. Same for the the Windows key.

So, when you press them, they don't do anything (i.e it stays fullscreen and ignores them)?

Just making sure.

Yap. That's why I run windowed mode while mapping.

Alt+ESC shows the running windows application tasks at the bottom. But Alt-Tab won't let me change fromTDM to the chosen application.

Thanks, that's sufficient - if there were problems you'd have noticed already, e.g. the renderviews going completely blank.

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?

Looks like the "Reverse April Fools" releases were too well hidden. Darkfate still hasn't acknowledge all the new releases. Did you play any of the new April Fools missions?
