Zombie concepts

If you want something to do you could make a zombie concept for me as we need to replace the existing ones with our own

If you're really planning on going ahead with this, here is some concept art.

In order to replace our existing zombie, the model would have to be naked or virtually so, and look like a corpse that has been decaying for some time. Various levels of decay could be (and would have to be) simulated by different skins. Here are some examples of the direction to go:

I will give it a try, but as I said in the other thread I haven't made all that many characters (even fewer decent ones). I will give it a try never the less though, I do think school will be a bit hectic in the coming months so I can't promise that it'll be quick, but I will try to make one. I'll see if I can get any response from Dominus otherwise I'll just base it upon a muscular/skeletal set of imageplanes.

I'm digging that last zbrush one - looks "realistic" in the sense of being emaciated.

I know I'm not a patch on Dominus but I might try doodling some zombies anyway!

Well, there's certainly no rush.

, would it be possible to have them walk normally as in not drag thier foot etc..

We have some that don't drag their feet. They'll eventually need to be repaced too if we want to go untethered.

Honestly I don't see a reason not to have some rags on the crotch.

I don't think it would matter if the naked current ones were replaced with one with rags. It's not like replacing the sword with a two handed sword or something way off.

And genitaless (?) zombies are just weird. I imagine we don't want big ol rotted schlong's flappin in the breeze, so rotted threads would be fine IMO.

I can see the point of not having fully clothed zombies...

Please no rotten penises or breasts that swing around - that's so disgusting

Yes, the Thief 2 Zombies were sometimes clothed too. Maybe this could be a "few rotten" stage while the "most rotten" stage is only the skeleton.

This might be TMI territory, but it is not entirely illogical. The softest parts of people tend to decompose first.

Come the time of peril, did the ground gape, and did the dead rest unquiet 'gainst us. Our bands of iron and hammers of stone prevailed not, and some did doubt the Builder's plan. But the seals held strong, and the few did triumph, and the doubters were lain into the foundations of the new sanctum. -- Collected letters of the Smith-in-Exile, Civitas Approved

I'd love to see all kinds of zombies. Something I had on the backburner was to create zombi-fied versions of typical characters, like a zombie-citywatch. But my plan was to use the ripped apart faces and zombie parts from D3 to do it, and that's not likely to happen anymore.

This is the dilemna with trying to go standalone. There is only X amount of modelling time/skill to spend...do you want to spend it on new types of zombies or do you want to duplicate the D3 ones that we already have?

It's better to invest your time into an original asset then to piss it away on something that you can never truely lay claim to.

I don't entirely agree, but that's not really what I was saying above. The dilemna at this stage of development is whether you spend your limited time and resources recreating the D3 zombie, so that you get nothing new, but are a step closer to the distant dream of being D3 free, or do you spend it making something new and creative? You can't do both at the same time.

i am so euphoric to see new FMs keep coming out and I am keen to try it out in my leisure time, then suddenly my PC is spouting a couple of S.M.A.R.T errors...
tbf i cannot afford myself to miss my network emulator image file&progress, important ebooks, hyper-v checkpoint & hyper-v export and the precious thief & TDM gamesaves. Don't fall yourself into & lay your hands on crappy SSD

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?
