betpet Posted February 9, 2012 Report Posted February 9, 2012 Has anyone managed to get TDM running natively on Linux since the Doom 3 source got released? Or am I living in the dream and not realised it yet? If so, got any instructions? Quote
New Horizon Posted February 9, 2012 Report Posted February 9, 2012 Nobody reads our wiki it seems. Linux has been supported for years. http://wiki.thedarkmod.com/index.php?title=Installation Quote
betpet Posted February 9, 2012 Author Report Posted February 9, 2012 Ok, someone pass me the beating stick. I'm very much a RTFM guy and I didn't Quote
lost_soul Posted February 9, 2012 Report Posted February 9, 2012 Well, I've been playing on Linux since day 1, but only using the original Doom 3 Linux version. I compiled the GPL version a wile ago and gave it a try, but TDM would freeze whenever I hit escape and brought up the menu while playing a mission. Not sure if that has been fixed yet, but I would be happy to switch to playing on the GPL version to watch for any oddities that appear. nbohr1more Posted February 9, 2012 Report Posted February 9, 2012 I wouldn't bother. v1.08 will be an executable made from the GPL code and the mod code merged together. Quote Please visit TDM's IndieDB site and help promote the mod: http://www.indiedb.com/mods/the-dark-mod (Yeah, shameless promotion... but traffic is traffic folks...)
Tels Posted February 9, 2012 Report Posted February 9, 2012 The current SVN version is already a GPL+TDM source compiled executable and the tdmlauncher is gone. However, until v1.08 is out, you need to use tdmlauncher and the original doom3.x86. (Also, it is not clear wether v1.08 will need D3 to run - at the moment TDM does not properly start up if the D3 base PK4 s are missing - too many missing assets) Quote "The reasonable man adapts himself to the world; the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself. betpet Posted February 10, 2012 Author Report Posted February 10, 2012 Oooh, that sounds positive. I like the whole idea of TDM being stand alone. Ok, maybe we need to add the asset files to make it work but it would be a great step forward. Quote
Robert Posted February 14, 2012 Report Posted February 14, 2012 I've always played TDM on linux and since the D3 code was released I've built it from source. For users of ArchLinux there are already scripts to do this in the user repository! https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=2990https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=31788 Quote
betpet Posted February 14, 2012 Author Report Posted February 14, 2012 I managed to get TDM working on Ubuntu 11.10. Just need to sort my sound card out since it doesn't seem to like my Creative XFi card Quote
