Crash on Startup

Hey guys,

 

my TDM crashes on Startup. It says "runtime error" and points to DooM3.exe. I already read the threads with the same issue here in the forum and read FAQ. I already googeled.

 

I have Win32 XP.

 

Doom 3 ist the right Version, I also checked with the console. Doom3 runs normal.

I freshly installed DIII from CD, patched, then dled TDM. Oh...I read I should have an DarkMod.exe? I only have the tdmlauncher, and I dont know how to get the tdm.exe.

Btw...there is no currentfm.exe. It only shows it in the log because I created the file to see if it will work then.

TheDarkMod.exe is from v1.08 onwards, for v1.07 you still have to use tdmlauncher. Cannot help you with your problem, tho.

It's an internal version that we are currently develop, it has not been released yet. I guess some wiki page was already updated with the instructions for v1.08 :)

 

You need to use tdmlauncher for now.

 

Do you get any info in the Darkmod.log file? Do you have the Steam version of D3? (I don't have windows, so I can only guess here)

Hi.

 

No, I have the CD Version.

 

I ran tmdupdate several times, so it should not be corrupted. I also downloaded the whole mod two times.

 

But I will try another thing. When I install the patch it says it cant detected the proper language of my installation. Seems my german original CD is a very retarded version =) I will try to get an US version "somewhere" and I will try it again. The german version I have is uncut, but it's often that german version are somehow "different". I read also, that it seems many germans have problems with TDM.

 

I will be back to report if I have a US copy of the game ;) Thank you so far.

Well, I do have a German version and it worked, but that was the Linux version, so this might be the problem.

 

You can check if your D3 is patched by running it and noting the version number in the console.

Hmm yes...it didnt work for me with an US Version of Doom.

Yes...I checked if DoomIII has the right Version and it is. Oh man, that sucks...in two months or so I will buy a new PC and put Win 7 on it. And I will install all programs fresh. Maybe it will work then... =( Wish me luck ;)

Maybe this is simply a directory permissions issue?

 

Have you tried disabling your anti-virus (etc) then re-launching?

 

Several folks have reported that ROE does not interfere but you need to ensure that ROE expansion files are in their "own mod directory" rather than in the Doom 3 base directory.

 

eg:

 

Good: E:\Games\DoomIII\ROE

 

Bad: E:\Games\DoomIII\base

 

Bad: E:\Games\DoomIII

Taaaki installed D3 + ROE and then TDM - perfectly. TDM crashed on launch. Took ages to work out what was wrong, but we never really resolved it... if ROE was not installed, it worked perfectly.

 

I think it's something to do with the CDKey crap, so it miiiight be resolved in 1.08, but I have no idea what the true cause is.

Hmmm...I don't know what the problem was. I just "found" a Doom3 version with RoE and 1.3.1 included and installed it...now it works. I had not installed ROE before and used my original DVD and installed 1.3.1 after. I can't tell hat the problem was so nobody can profitate from my findings. But I tried the classic Doom mod and it did not work too. So...it had something to do with mod using and not with TDM.

TDM 1.08. clean system debian amd64.

I've download tdm_update.linux as it says, launch it. All downloads good. run it once more just to make sure that there are no updates still. I have complete 2.2Gb of it.

Try to run the game.

BANG!

there is NO tdm_update.linux file anywhere!

Do you mean it gets deleted after trying to launch TDM? That's odd. You may try to launch the game from console. It will crash, too, but then we have some sort of error message that may prove useful.

With v1.08, there is no longer tdmlauncher, you launch thedarkmod.x86.

I've run in TDM on this computer before (I've used to use Fedora Core). But now, after switching to Debian I just can't run TDM...

I'm using proprietary driver nvidia. But there is strange problem with it. I've read somewhere that in Debian you have to run programs with LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib32/libGL.so prefix. I'm not quite sure what it does, but seems it works. May be after updating driver/ia32/something else it'll be no longer needed, but now without it TDM crashes.

Long story short. I've update TDM again. Now I can run it with

LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib32/libGL.so thedarkmod.x86

TDM is a 32bit program, so if you are on a 64bit box, the above command might be nec. (It is not nec. on my oldKubuntu box, but then, it is quite old :)

Still having troubles with no dynamic lights and black squares instead of some particles.

I've write about it here (http://forums.thedarkmod.com/topic/14199-solved-more-108-weird-behaviour-crashes-graph-problems-gnulinux/page__p__298356#entry298356) but the solution I've get is not acceptable now.

So, I try to run "Old Habbits" mission. It runs without lights, crashes with segfault after exit. In console:

It looks like your darkmod cannot load the D3 assets and thus misses critical files like "R200_interaction.vp" etc.

On Linux, after installing doom3 via the installer downloadable from the internat (I just guess you have done it that way), you need to copy a bunch of pk4's from the doom3 cd onto your pc. I think they are located in the base folder. Maybe you just forgot that. :smile:

      Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

      I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
      Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

      Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?
