MORE THAN JUST STEALTH!

yeah but I hated the robots and camera alarms and art deco thin metal crap in Thief 2. Thief 1 medieval leanings fit my taste better, with a hint or flavor/spice of steam punk, but not too much.

There were single shot pistols in T2X. I thought they worked pretty well. They were only for guards. They'd take a shot -- *blam*! -- and it'd scare you half to death. Then they'd drop it and pull out their sword, but it looks like here they'd fight with the dagger end. For single-shot it sort of works because it makes you really think twice before taking on a guard. But it doesn't degenerate into an FPS because they just have that one shot. At most they have to run off to spend 15 seconds reloading a new shot.

Also Mirror's Edge has fan maps!

That's going to give it some serious bonus points right there.

I helped get the ball rolling with some others back in the days, trying to figure out how to use Unreal ED in conjunction Mirror's Edge. We managed to do it obviously, but we never got around the limitation of not having BEAST at our disposal, so the maps always looked like utter crap. I eventually stopped following the whole charade. Did something change in this aspect?

Ah, yeah, they did always sort of look like crap. I guess I assumed I was only watching the duds and there had to be some masterpieces out there. I never followed the internal discussion so I didn't know there was a reason they looked that bad. Just another example of what sucks about the state of modding these days, I guess.

In this case, it was nobodys fault actually, as it was a licensing issue. The devs of ME licensed BEAST for rendering global ilumination lightmaps and of course they couldn't ship that with the game. But yeah, proper modding or at least custom map support would've helped to make the game more popular by far...

It was the fault of whoever designed the game, made the workflow and produced the tool chain. Licensing an expensive tool for your toolchain means insta-death to the modding scene, because they won't be able to afford a 7K (or whatever) license just to massage their content into shape.

But I guess noawayds its more important to sell a few million copies and then sell a few million DLC packages, then have fan missions - because these don't bring in any money, and are irrelevant for the sequel, anyway (which you produce to make money, not to please fans).

Oh well...

So what? Have you seen the DX:HR takedowns? They look good and together with the cover animation - IMHO - add to the feeling that you play Adam Jensen, not just some camera orb that's flying through the level.

My Eigenvalue is bigger than your Eigenvalue.

Yeah those animations look slick, but for a while they were the butt of every joke on youtube. Not to mention they completely freeze time during the animation, and reorient the characters positions to suit the animation. some of those animations don't suit the target, or the situation. Example, I walk up to 2 hookers. They say hello. They have no way of knowing i'm about to lay a whooping on them. Hit takedown button. Somehow now, the hookers know kung fu, and pre-emptively throw punches at me before I even strike.

If some drunken old beggar on the street starts launching fists of fury on me when I blackjack-takedown-animation him from behind in thi4f, i'm not going to be very fucking happy.

Okay, that's definitely some programming screw-up. I couldn't know that, since I never k.o.-ed civilians.

It's like one design-flub to patch up another, the first of which shouldn't have been made much less the 2nd (IMO).

They decide to put in 3P take-downs for the gamey leet factor of watching a take-down, but then they have to account for how it actually looks (watching your PC impale a woman or civvie looks bad), so they have to put in an even more gamey way to let the women & civvies of all people able to stop the take-downs... It's like once you're in the business of making leet & gamey design choices, you've crossed that line into the abyss and it's all downhill from there.

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?

Looks like the "Reverse April Fools" releases were too well hidden. Darkfate still hasn't acknowledge all the new releases. Did you play any of the new April Fools missions?
