Insanely amazing adaptation of American Psycho

"I really perceive that vanity about which most men merely prate — the vanity of the human or temporal life. I live continually in a reverie of the future. I have no faith in human perfectibility. I think that human exertion will have no appreciable effect upon humanity. Man is now only more active — not more happy — nor more wise, than he was 6000 years ago. The result will never vary — and to suppose that it will, is to suppose that the foregone man has lived in vain — that the foregone time is but the rudiment of the future — that the myriads who have perished have not been upon equal footing with ourselves — nor are we with our posterity. I cannot agree to lose sight of man the individual, in man the mass."...

This was always my favorite episode of the game because of the artwork, and it felt like you were actually in space because of the exteriors through the windows. I always referred to the slimer enemies as "eggies" when I was young. lol

There are also some rather strange oddities about Duke Nukem 3d. For one, walking in the slime without the boots causes damage to the player, but submerging and swimming in it does not. Yes, even without the boots. Basically as far as the game is concerned, slime is no different from water when you submerge, in the areas where you can. Same rules apply about not running out of air, but other than that, swim away. The boots don't deplete while submerged, either.

Also, if you happen to shrink or freeze a hatched egg, when it thaws, or goes back to normal size, it will be reset. That is, it will be unopened and happy to hatch again, spawning another enemy.

Another oddity in the game, is breaking mirrors with the pipe-bombs. The player doesn't even have to detonate them, merely throwing them at a mirror causes the mirror to break. This is strange because I don't think the pipe bomb item itself causes any damage to anything until it is detonated. Would it maybe kill slimers? They are killed by anything, even other weapons that don't actually do damage like the shrinker. Hmm I've never managed to hit a slimer while tossing the pipe bombs.

Here's a video that I just watched that is basically a short history of the Thief fan mission scene, including a section on TDM.

Not sure what issues people had with T2X. Personally I think it is every bit as good as the original game, even superior in some ways.

The main character's voice acting and the story have been criticized. I think it's a must play. I remember being wowed by the briefings and new arrows.

My only criticism of the video is that I don't think it mentioned CoSaS: Mission X. That was huge, stunning, and one of the most hyped Thief FMs from what I remember. In part because there was an intention to make more missions after that. Oh yeah, Nine Year Sleep. The video does have some footage from CoSaS: Gathering at the Inn.

I thought T2X was great. The main character's VA was pretty good I thought, more than adequate for the role. The campaign is a bit rough around the edges in parts, one or two of the conversations are clunky with certain lines slow to trigger. But the level design is top notch; I rate the haunted hospital, the train, and the hotel among the best fan missions T2 has to offer.

My missions:           Stand-alone                                                      Duncan Lynch series

Down and Out on Newford Road              the Factory Heist

                                                                                                  A House Call

                                                                                                  The House of deLisle

Music design in this game is seriously excellent. Both when idle and when the player takes damage/in frantic combat mode..

at 7:15, listen to that. It's just spooky and perfect, with the darkness and the whole not being able to see 50 feet in front of your face. Had to be done like that on these old systems to prevent frame rates going into the toilet and it makes the game scarier that way, anyway.

Still sad no one made Doom for this machine. It would be a cool university project or something. I mean the hardware is pretty weak, but all console versions of the game had sacrifices made to them. E.g. removing other animations of monsters so that they can only face the player, removing lots of textures, etc.

I think if the SNES could run Doom, this thing should be able to. It has 4 times the memory, but the thing about cartridge based games is that you can cheat by including extra processors inside of the cartridge itself (all?) 3D games on the SNES did this.

You can also rapidly pull data from the cartridge to make up for lacking RAM, it's like a grandfather of the super-fast SSD, which you certainly can't do with a 1X CD-ROM drive!

I know that the wizard who made SNES Doom happen released the source code for it and also did a long interview, I wonder what he would have to say on the subject of making Doom run on a CD-I.

This is probably the worst port of Doom there is, just because it is abundantly obvious that the hardware it is running on was capable of so, so much more if used correctly! There was a company that had a 3D engine properly optimized for this system and it ran way faster and smoother while having more advanced features.

I like the new frob highlight but it would nice if it was less "flickery" while moving over objects (especially barred metal doors).
