Problems with missions

Hello everyone I hope you are having a good day :).

I wrote this topic to talk about the problems I'm having with some missions: Return to the City, Rightful Property, Sneak and Destroy, Heart of Lone Salvation, St Albans Cathedral.

I can read/see the mission objectives, choose the dificulty and load the mission. However, sometimes the game crashes while loading (shows the "program has to shut down" message from Windows). Other times, I can play the missions for a few minutes, but if I save the game, it crashes the same way.

I'm running Windows XP SP3, 2.60 GHz Dual Core, 2 GB memory, and an ASUS EAH4350 SILENT/DI/512MD2(LP) graphics card.

Hello Loa4ever,

are you playing a fresh install or did you play The Dark Mod for months / years before without problems?

Also which Doom version do you use?

Those are all fairly big taxing missions, but your system specs should be able to handle it. Are there missions that don't cause any problems?

Hi,

I've installed The Dark Mod about 3 months ago, and I've got Doom3 v1.3.1 + RoE. And I've always had these issues.

Yes, though I've experienced some random crashes once in a while in certain areas.

Some of these missions need upwards to 2GByte memory themselves, and if you only got 2 Gb and the OS already uses a bit of it, you might simply run out of memory (which can look like a crash).

Also, have you run a memory test on your computer? The second stick might be bad, which you normally don't notice, but when something needs a lot of memory, it randomly puts stuff on the faulty place, and depending on how important that bit was, it might either crash, or do nothing.

Not that. The memory that my computer uses to run stuff.

Smashing, as per Tels post I was about to suggest that aswell. And if you can afford it, I would upgrade the gfx card to one with atleast 1Gb of ram

nVidia:

GT 430 96cores - $49

9800GT 112 cores - $59

Amd:

HD 6430 160cores - $35

HD 5550 320cores - $55

untill TDM 1.08 comes out (this year hopefully), ATi/AMD cards of HD5000 series and above will have the "hard to disable catalyst Ai issue" this is related to the spinning sky in tdm.

I like the new frob highlight but it would nice if it was less "flickery" while moving over objects (especially barred metal doors).

Well then, it's been about a week since I released my first FM and I must say that I was very pleasantly surprised by its reception. I had expected half as much interest in my short little FM as I received and even less when it came to positive feedback, but I am glad that the aspects of my mission that I put the most heart into were often the most appreciated. It was also delightful to read plenty of honest criticism and helpful feedback, as I've already been given plenty of useful pointers on improving my brushwork, level design, and gameplay difficulty.
I've gotten back into the groove of chipping away at my reading and game list, as well as the endless FM catalogue here, but I may very well try my hand at the 15th anniversary contest should it materialize. That is assuming my eyes are ready for a few more months of Dark Radiant's bright interface while burning the midnight oil, of course!
