Voice acting request:

I'm helping SH with one of his missions and I need 3 lines doing as I have recorded all the others.

 

Builder: "No, his room is also locked and he has been acting strange of late. I am worried for all of us at the present time, what with the lower floor falling into an abyss and those accursed pagans camped outside the walls."

 

Builder: "I hope you are right brother, on a different sujbect do you know where the lower gate key has got to? as I have something to do there..."

 

builder: "Ay, good night and Builder bless our souls."

I'll do it.

 

I'll just take a "go-ahead" from you here; take the lines above; record them; zip/rar/7z them up (as I will be submitting to you a set of uncompressed wavs; you can then compress them however you want on your end).

 

But not if it's going to turn into a nit-picking exercise. Which is not to say I won't give it a few back-and-forth goes, if necessary, to work on the directional particulars of the reading and perhaps a clear and simple way of correcting (un)clear ambient noise and/or other "unsound" recording technique or problems.

Oh... yeah, sorry.

 

Here is, as a sample, the 2nd set of lines; just to see if my voice and the recording is going to work at all. It's a very dry reading so feel free to give me some direction if you feel the other stuff (voice, recording, etc.) is going to be okay.

 

Had to add a false ".txt" extension to the attachment, it's really a ".flac" file.

Thanks for that lz, the quality is quite good. Hardly any noise with clear distinct vocals, the only thing I would suggest is gettign a pop guard reduce the bass sounds on word begining with P or B. Other than that you should have a go at doing some for the core mod, we could use another distinct set of vocals :-D

 

But back on topic, when can you do the other two remaining lines..?

I can do them pretty quickly, thanks, Biker.

 

I would like to ask though if you could give me the sound files (or even just the text) of what I am responding to, so that I might get some idea of what kind of inflections I should use and where? If you will do so, I think it'll make a difference. I've never understood how some people get really over concerned with "bad" voice acting (to the extent that they let it ruin games for them). But I do indeed notice it when the wrong word is stressed, and it niggles a bit.

 

So, if you will, you can PM the stuff to me so as not to reveal too much of the mission here.

 

Otherwise just tell me to get on with it and I'll just get on with it. ;)

Springheel, the VLC Media Player can play FLAC files perfectly well. You should definitely give this player a try, as it brings its own codecs and doesn't rely on outside codec packs.

 

Iz, this is almost professional quality! Can't wait to hear you in that FM. :)

I usually write scripts based on the sound of the voice, so I'll see what I can do to listen to them.

 

I had an actor who bailed on me over the summer, so I may just have a ready made script after all, if it suits the voice.

I was able to give them a listen. Definitely interesting, and very different from any of our other vocals. Unfortunately the character doesn't really suit the only script I have written at the moment, and I can't say how soon I'll have time to write another one.

You mentioned the campaign, Biker. I assume you are referring to the Crucible campaign. What kind of characters might need doing there? I'm interested.

 

Not sure I can do anything that would fit notions of any particular character. But who knows? The voice I gave you for this exercise was an "everyman" because I wasn't asked to try anything one way or the other.

I would like to see a thread in the wiki, where you can see who spoke which voice and if he / she is still available for doing further lines. It is a big barrier to insert custom conversations to your mission, if you don't know who spoke which lines and if you find him available for more or you must find someone to imitate which is also not a good way imho.

      tbf i cannot afford myself to miss my network emulator image file&progress, important ebooks, hyper-v checkpoint & hyper-v export and the precious thief & TDM gamesaves. Don't fall yourself into & lay your hands on crappy SSD

      Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

      I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
      Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

      Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?
