Here's the noisemaker colored, click on the picture

The concept is that there are four holes on it, and it is shaped kind of like a diamond from a front view. Air blows through the "whistle holes" emitting a high pitch whistle or screech, which draws guard's attention towards wherever you fire it.

Basically, the different "pods" (the bumps) are each a moss spore which takes root when it lands and grows into a moss pad, it could grow only on the ground, or, for effect, have it grow on all surfaces that it hits.

 

Here's a Gasbomb concept, I'll have it colored tomorrow.

I've got a few more that i'll have done by the end of this next week, including a good mine drawing and a some crystal-based arrows.

I'm not sure if we decided to insert gas-bombs in our mod. To be honest I don't like them much, cauze I think they make the game too easy. We should discuss that in the Devchat Forum.

 

But I like your noisemaker :) It looks great and the way it emitts noise is IMO the best solution for an arrow. I don't like that fireworks stuff in thief 3....

 

However I'd prefer a crystal moss-arrow as I mentioned in the other thread.

Yeah, maybe we should agree on how we want the arrows to look before anyone spends lots of time working on them?

 

I think the noise arrow looks cool as well, but I also vote in favour of crystals for the elemental ones.

 

I agree about the gas bombs too. If we have gas arrows, why do we also need bombs? We could go back to gas mines if we wanted, since they are different in gameplay.

Sounds good, i'll work on concepts for the following, to be used at the team's discretion-

 

A good mine concept

Some elemental crystal concepts

A simple broadhead concept.

A gas mine

Lockpicks (though we should probably clear up how lockpicking should be first, I'll start a thread on it if there isn't one already)

The short sword

Some simple enemies (Quick question, are we bringin back burricks or something burrick-like?)

 

And,... um, yeah.

We already have the short sword finished and modelled. We should try to avoid duplicating what has already been done.

 

And yes, I think the plan is to include burricks (or "Belchers" as we'll call them).

Hey, these look great. :) They're more like the T1/2 style then the giant crystals of T3.

 

It would be cool if we could add a heat-haze effect to the fire arrow.

Very nice work god_is_my_goldfish. Wow, very nice indeed. Would you be interested in trying a mockup of my crystal noisemaker concept? I really like your concepts, so I would interested to see your take on it. :)

Yeah, everything in T3 was bigger. It's like they were....compensating....for something. ;) Ahhh yes, lame juvenile humor.

I like the new noise maker. At least, I think it is heading in a much better direction. Having a 'reed' like a penny whistle is a much more convincing reason for a whistling noise than lots of holes. I like convincing. I'm in the porcelain please camp too.

but as i said elsewhere, i think the best thing to do would be to steer clear of the official concept art.

 

I don't think we should steer clear from any references, including original concept art.

 

Concept art, photographs, drawings, pictures, etc. are meant to generate ideas and help pull off our own concept drawings and/or ideas. What's wrong with getting visual cues from from anywhere we can find them, including Thief predecessors?

 

Those crystal tips from the original concept art are very well done -- at the very least from an artistic standpoint -- and posting things like this should only help us to make our own art and ideas.

If you agree or decide something like that, then you should post it in my project definition thread, so we can include/remove it there. Not everybody is following all the threads, but we should all know about these things. That's why I started this thread.

Usually I don't look much into the Art threads, because I'm not an artist and can not contribute much there. So most of the time, when I look at these threads, I just look at the pictures and hope that the first mod is appearing fast because of the great graphics. But I don't read all the postings here. I guess there are others as well and we shouldn't rely on this when deciding what we want and what not. Especially since a thread has only a limited time and after that only few remeber it and what has been decided.

 

Don't forget. If you decide something here, then the coders will also have to know about it, to give it life. :)

You raise a good point Sparhawk. Fewer people will be reading all of the threads. I'll volunteer to scan the art threads and post or PM to you any agreements that have been made.

      Is there a script command to make a screenshot?
      I just though it could be interesting to be able to create a screenshot at a certain point in time. Then use that screenshot possibly in a debrief.
      I guess the second question is: Can you use a (in-game made) screenshot in a (debrief) gui?
