Bikerdude Posted November 2, 2012 Report Posted November 2, 2012 Tell Tale Heart by DarthsLair (copied from the ttlg post) Story:It is Hallows Eve, and while the Trick or Treater's are keeping the City Watch busy, I thought I would spend some time in the old Industrial area just outside the city. Basso and Jenivere are to meet me behind the old Trumble house, as they are casing some work for me. Should be a quiet evening, and the only guards close by won't be watching. The rent is due, and you never know, I may just have a few tricks for tonight myself as the rent is due in a couple of days. Trick or Treat! Download links:-googledocs Notes:Before downloading! Version 1.19, otherwise known as Thief2 The New Dark is required to play this game. You must patch your Thief 2 installation and be sure and remove all of your v1.18 saves. Follow the instructions, as the patching is simple - 1.19 page - This mission is large, and it will take some time to get through it. I highly suggest to read everything you can read in the mission for a full understanding of the Story and Game. Some of the objectives of course are triggered by readables.- Please dont give outright spoilers, as this is a new game and story. The game play is laid out in a simple fashion, and there are numerous clues throughout the mission.- Pay no attention to the stat's screen concerning secrets, as that count is wrong. The objective screen will credit you in this regard. My eyes have been failing me for quite some time, and this may be my last mission until eye surgery or such. I had to use a powerful magnifying glass in order to work and finish it. My eyes are strained terribly, so bear with me.- I also included in the movie's folder, my custom made death.avi. I may have to make a written walk-through and a loot list, but there is no hidden loot which isn't easy to find. All credits appear in the readme !- It is probably not wise to frob the fish I have in this mission, and a beta tester did mention that once frobbed it couldn't be dropped. It might be thrown however. Explore the game up and down, and you will eventually find everything. Patience is golden ! Maps are helpful, and I have included the necessary features to help you navigate in the catacombs. Video:- Slyfoxx is Garrett, and the background music is by Keyla the Otter. Some of his ambients are used throughout the mission. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QPjtjaVBHc0 Misc:- This fan mission:Tell Tale Heart is dedicated to Evy(Evelyn) Poe, directly related to Edgar Allan Poe. She passed away sadly many years ago and was my dear friend, along with Dale Duvall, her son who also passed away earlier this year. Long live Edgar Allan Poe and all of his descendants. Have some Halloween fun ! Quote
Oldjim Posted November 2, 2012 Report Posted November 2, 2012 That looks sufficiently interesting for me to have a go at installing Thief 2 The Metal Age on my Win 7 64 bit computer - it's a bit fiddly but I suspect that using the -lgntforce modifier should sort out the initial install then patching to 1.18 and then to 1.19But then I have a questionDo I use DarkLoader or GarrettLoader which appears to possibly interfere with the DarkMod downloader Quote
simplen00b Posted November 2, 2012 Report Posted November 2, 2012 Do I use DarkLoader or GarrettLoader Neither - 1.19 comes with its own FM loader. Quote
Bikerdude Posted November 2, 2012 Author Report Posted November 2, 2012 Neither - 1.19 comes with its own FM loader. Some people are reporting that dosent work for them, but Darkloader does. Quote
7upMan Posted November 2, 2012 Report Posted November 2, 2012 Can someone put up some tasty screenshots? I'd like to know if there is a visual difference between vanilla T2 FMs and the new one. Quote My Eigenvalue is bigger than your Eigenvalue.

Oldjim Posted November 2, 2012 Report Posted November 2, 2012 Started playing it and I have been spoilt by DarkMod - I had forgotten all the old annoyances with Thief 2 controls etc.Still it looks to be interesting and worth persevering with Quote
simplen00b Posted November 3, 2012 Report Posted November 3, 2012 Some people are reporting that dosent work for them, but Darkloader does. That looks like it was a problem with the original mission upload, but it's been updated to v1.1 and now works with 1.19 FM loader - http://thiefmissions...m/TellTaleHeart I have been spoilt by DarkMod - I had forgotten all the old annoyances with Thief 2 controls etc.Oh mercy - mantling. What.On.Earth. I try jumping onto a bed or a sofa and end up clattering around with all the stealth of a drunk giraffe on stilts Quote
brethren Posted November 6, 2012 Report Posted November 6, 2012 That looks sufficiently interesting for me to have a go at installing Thief 2 The Metal Age on my Win 7 64 bit computer - it's a bit fiddly but I suspect that using the -lgntforce modifier should sort out the initial install then patching to 1.18 and then to 1.19 Use the newest version of Tafferpatcher - it will let you install T2 from disk or iso, and apply all the fixes and patches that have been implemented over the years, including the new 1.19 patch. No need to worry about -lgntforce or multi core issues or anything else. But then I have a questionDo I use DarkLoader or GarrettLoader which appears to possibly interfere with the DarkMod downloader Any will work, including the new FMSel program included with the 1.19 patch. Also, why is this being posted in the TDM Fan Missions forum? No big deal, just thought it was weird. I also noticed it didn't take long for people to rip on T2 and play the TDM superiority dance, but whatever... Quote
TheUnbeholden Posted November 10, 2012 Report Posted November 10, 2012 this is the TDM fan missions section Quote
demagogue Posted November 10, 2012 Report Posted November 10, 2012 TTLG allows TDM FMs in its FM forum, so it's only fair we are open to T2 FMs in our FM forum. We tolerate people being snobby against us, but we don't need to be snobby back, IMO. I think all of us should keep a T2 install and play classic T2 FMs sometimes too... Not just because it's part of our creative lineage, but also because they're packed with good ideas & gameplay for stealth FMs. I still think of all of us in a shared enterprise to make the best stealth FMs for each other, so I welcome the cross-pollination. That said, even though I downloaded this the day it came out I'm still looking for a time to play it. But I can blame that on spending so much time with Dishonored lately. Quote What do you see when you turn out the light? I can't tell you but I know that it's mine.
Sir Taffsalot Posted November 10, 2012 Report Posted November 10, 2012 (edited) TTLG allows TDM FMs in its FM forum, so it's only fair we are open to T2 FMs in our FM forum. We tolerate people being snobby against us, but we don't need to be snobby back, IMO. I dont think its a case of been snobby its just that this is a TDM site so people (I would assume) come here for TDM missions and TDM missions only. While TTLG encompasses Thief FMs for all platforms. I dont see this as a huge issue right now however if we start including every T2 and TDS FM that gets released then new TDM FMs could get buried if there was an influx of non TDM FMs. If people like myself mostly post on the TDM site and want to share opinions with more familiar posters about non TDM FMs I dont see why the off Topic section would be inappropriate. Edit: I dont mean to come across as anti T2 or anything. I still play Thief FMs and think they still have plenty to offer. Tell Tale Heart is on my to play list right after Obstorttes FM Edited November 10, 2012 by Sir Taffsalot Quote "I believe that what doesn't kill you simply makes you... stranger" The Joker
Sotha Posted November 10, 2012 Report Posted November 10, 2012 I have similar view as ST. It says:TDM Fan MissionsNews about TDM Fan Mission releases, feedback threads, help and walkthroughs. in this subforum title topic here. That means posting other thief game missions here is miscategorized and off-topic, right? Quote Clipper-The mapper's best friend.
Springheel Posted November 10, 2012 Report Posted November 10, 2012 The same argument could be made about our TDM mission threads in the "Thief Fan Missions" forum at TTLG. I don't think it's likely to happen often enough to become a problem. Quote TDM Missions: A Score to Settle * A Reputation to Uphold * A New Job * A Matter of Hours Video Series: Springheel's Modules * Speedbuild Challenge * New Mappers Workshop * Building Traps
Bikerdude Posted November 10, 2012 Author Report Posted November 10, 2012 I did wonder when I posted what peoples thought on the subject would be, I conceed on Sothas point about cluttering up our FM section but as we havent been exactly flush FM's over the last few months I didnt see the harm. And lastly and as some have already noticed we post over on TTLG because some over there don't come over here and I image the same could be said of some of us... So as a compromise I myself will only post T1/2 FMs from seasoned Fm authors. Atm I am beta testing 2 gems from DrK and Shacky that will impress even the most hardcore TDM player. Quote
